Fishing shows today are all about anglers playing with their new underwater high tech equipment. you can learn all about a $10,000 sonar setup for your boat on almost all the fishing shows right now. Gone are the fishing shows that teach anglers how to read the weather, the water, the structure of an area and why fish will be in a specific spot. On top of a structure, tucked beside it , suspended nearby etc. etc Now you just fire up a massive array of sonar, up, down , sideways, left right, live action …….. of course you need to spend $5-10k and spend most of the day playing with it instead of fishing. Or you could just pull into an area and kinda know where to cast.🫢

Suggestions for guided fishing trip with son
Reelpro replied to Stlcitysc's topic in General Discussion
Try the Ontario Sportsfishing Guides Association. Lots of charter operators in the area you are looking at. For a more wilderness experience, 4/5 North of the GTA check out Reelpro listed on the site under inland lakes. www.ontariofishcharters.ca GL Mike -

Used to fish 12 mike lake a lot, it had some huge Smallmouth Bass in it, but that was a long time ago. I mostly fished the west shoreline from the North end down about a mile or so. lots of sandy beach shorelines along the western shore that always had some Smallies cruising on. My first official 6 pound Smallmouth Bass - 1969 😳😳🤣🤣

Fishhog Lake You may run into a motor boat, but the lake is pretty quite. Portage in from Head Lake near Norland , or access through a farm road. Head River is also a good spot that you won’t see motor boats in much - downstream from Head Lake a few small portages as it goes towards Orillia, or upstream to Fishhog. Monster bass, I have weighed a Largemouth over 8lbs and a Smallmouth over 6Lbs - Head Lake and the river.

batteries wont freeze if they are in a state of full charge - left 240 deep cycle golf cart batteries all winter outside every winter for the 8 years of their life, they never froze when fully charged.

Check out - Kipawasolar.com They have installed a lot of remote cottage solar systems. full building power. I have stayed at one of their "off grid" cottages, and it was like we had hydro - terrific. There was a backup generator to start up if voltage dropped below a certain level, stayed for 5 days and never had to start generator. hot showers, indoor washrooms , full kitchen, full fridge/freezer, fans, lights , etc -

Snow Tires for sure - and the studs should be allowed for anyone that wants to run them, anywhere in the Country. If you have never tried a car or truck equipped with a good agressive set of studs in winter tires , you should. I run an all wheel drive, with X-ice studded winter tires, better stopping and traction than dry pavement in summer. If every vehicle on the roads was equipped like that there would be 50% less accidents in winter. But as some previous post said, if it was logical and made life safer, our moron politicians will have none of it, unless of course, they somehow get another raise from it.

If you ever find yourself in icy waters, through the ice or a capsized boat , remember the 1-10-1 Rule. It could save your life. Apparently something like 80% of people drown in the first few minutes they fall into icy waters, due to panic. The 1-10-1 rule: you have 1 minute to control your panic. you have 10 minutes of meaningful movement- your body will function somewhat normally in almost freezing temp waters for 10 minutes - to get out of the water. you have 1 hour to live, assuming you have your Lifejacket or floater coat on, . In near freezing water, you can live for about 1 hour before critical hypothermia, so a signaling device can save you an hour after you fall in - reflector, whistle, a waving hand …. The biggest thing is the panic, people actually swim away from shore and safety because of panic. So if you go in, think 1-10-1 A life jacket or floater coat is always a good idea when on icy waters as well.
