  1. Hey All, I'm trying to plan a romantic trip for my wife and I, we're both turing 30 around the same time and it'll be our 3rd wedding anniversary. I know that many members on this board have travelled the world and I'm wondering if you could suggest somewhere. This is going to be a surprise and I know some of the lurkers on this board know my wife well, so V, keep it quiet! Anyway, any suggestions or help, I have a reasonable budget and I'm looking for something special. Thanks Dave
  2. Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in..... In terms of sentences for armed robbery, although they are not where they should be, they are coming down harder on offences like this. It'll take some time, but we will see tougher sentences because things are changing oh and coincidentally, England has the number of crimes involving knives of all the first world nations (as of '07).
  3. Hey all, I know you were all anticipating more photos so here they are. I have to say though, that the Pacific Coast Highway in southern California has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. Although I haven't been a global traveler beauty is everywhere if you just take a moment to look and that's what I did. This shot of my wife and daughter was taken on a small beach that you had to navigate down an ancient flight of stone steps to get to.... What a view! Maybe this is why I wouldn't think twice about moving there Seems like everyone from the ages of 15 to the time they can afford a surf board were skimming the incoming waves from the beaches These guys were everywhere These guys were everywhere too....also spotted many many killer whales but I couldn't snap a shot of them because I could never predict where and when they'd surface! And as you can see...my little girl didn't know what to do with herself...being that it was her first time in the sand! Enjoy...stay tuned!
  4. I don't know about the fishing, but I stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe a few years ago and I couldn't have been happier. Great food, great beaches, and you're within walking distance of the market on the beach. You also have day trips to swim with dolphins etc. It's worth the price to go there.
  5. I use a Canon EOS REBEL XS, most shots were taken with either a 28-80mm and 72-300mm lense
  6. Okay so the airport isn't a dump....but it's a pain in the backside when they take an hour and a half to get 2 bags and a car seat off the plane...their excuse "we're sorry, two planes arrived at the same time" Anyway, thanks for the comments guys,
  7. Hey All, Well, after finally getting back to normal, I was able to sort through some 2400 photos that I took in the 8 days I was gone. On Friday, we took off from Buffalo Int'l Airport. It's a dump, it matches the rest of the town lol. Anyway, once the sun came up this is what I saw.... So, after touching down in Los Angeles, we drove and hour to a suburb call San Gabriel which is on the outskirts in Los Angeles County. My wife's cousin decided to take us on a tour of Hollywood. What I noticed though was the smog. It was everywhere...and everything had a haze... The next day, my wifes extremely generous cousins drove us to Las Vegas! It was a sight to see! So after an 8 hour round trip (with my 2 year old in the back seat) we were in Ventura County visiting more relatives....so again, I had to escape, and the coast was phenomenal. Found this guy hiding And how could I leave out the fishing pic? Thanks for reading, I have many many more photos to go through, if you really want to see many more then check out my flickr collection. Dave
  8. Hey Guys, Just thought that I would drop a line....yes I am checking OFC while on Vacation here in Los Angeles. While y'all are experiencing some interesting weather, I haven't seen a cloud in the week i've been here and it's been over 22C every day1 Anyway, i've probably snapped well over 1200 pics since Saturday and I can't wait to get them home and being working on them. We went to the Pacific Coast Highway and it has to be the most beautiful thing that I have ever seen! The combination of the beautiful views and the whales and dolphins roaming up and down the coast is enough to make a person want to move out here! Take care Dave
  9. I've always been told that Skunk-Out from pet shops works....i'm not a dog person so I don't really know, i've hit a few with the car and it stinks!
  10. When shopping on Ebay, Kijiji and Craigs list always do your homework. There are too many scams relating to vehicles and property and people are being defrauded left right and centre. As always, buyer beware!
  11. Here are a few you can try: 1) I'm not sure what it's called but here in the Waterloo school board they have a Healthy Nutritian program which gives kids who go to school hungry everyday the chance to have breakfast every day. 2) Look into the Take a Kid Fishing Day - I know that our association has a program that brings officers and kids together for a day of fishing. 3) Make a wish
  12. As far as camera choice for the beginner DSLR Canon, Nikon and Sony make great entry level products. If you're really on a tight budget, might I suggest the Canon XS. I have it and love it and is apparantly more dependable than the Nikon and Sony models. However, since you have the Nikon lenses, I wouldn't switch brands. Nikon makes a great product. Don't be surprised when you switch. I was amazed at how much I had to improve my skills. DSLRs pick up much more camera shake than you do with 35mm SLRs, plus, once you start tinkering with post production you'll be hooked. If you can't afford Photoshop CS4 which retails for around $800, might I suggest Corel PaintShop Pro much cheaper but still a good product.
  13. actually, that photo isn't the original, i forget which filter i used - either a skylight or warming Dave
  14. Hey All, So you may wonder what exactly a photoroam is. Well, it's whatever you want it to be. You pick a location and go for a walkabout and look for that special shot. Anyway, here are a a few that I took from downtown Kitchener a few days ago. Let me know what you think. Comments and Critiques always welcome. Be sure to take a look at me growing collection of photos on Flickr (my account is in my signature) Thanks Dave
  15. Hey Guys, FYI, I did some research and there is NOTHING LEGALLY BINDING from this letter. It's a scare tactic from the US to your service provider to make you stop downloading. Your service from Rogers won't stop etc etc. Don't worry about it.
  16. Hey All, Two years ago I was diagnosed with shoulder impingements - a calcium/scar tissue build up around the rotator cuff... anyway, the pain went away and now it's come back with a vengence. I know that there are a lot of former athletes and a lot of hard working tradesmen on this board who might have gone through this. I'm wondering if you've had any treatment or if there are any exercises that you've done to alleviate this problem without surgery. Thanks Dave
  17. Hey Cliff, Don't go with any Norton or McAfee products. They are too popular and hence all the hackers and morons that create the viruses are able to go around what they offer. You should go with anything made by Trend Micro like PCCillan. Not too expensive either. Also, if you're looking for a temporary clean up got to Malwarebytes and download the free software and that will completely clean your system.
  18. For pike, you're looking at a 9 weight or more rod...you'll need a wire leader the most common brand is called toothy critter....you'll want to look for large baitfish immitations, go to Wilson's in Toronto and you'll be able to pick some up, or you can tie some deceivers or other patters, and you'll want to fish them subsurface....
  19. It's scary because i'll be flying out of Buffalo in a month!
  20. Great episode. I read about it in Canadian Fly Fisher. I guess he lost a bet and that's why he did it....it was great though
  21. Hello Everyone, I haven't had a chance to really escape and take some photos, I thought I'd share some pics of my beautiful daughter. Comments and Critiques always welcome Dave
  22. The best place and time to buy a DSLR is Boxing Week at Henry's Camera Shop. You can find great deals there. I think they had and Canon Rebel XT (or whatever their old model was) it was $1499 three years ago. Earlier in they year i watched it fall from around $550 to $400. Henry's had it on sale during boxing week for $369.99 great deal
  23. I have the Canon Rebel XS...I highly recommend it. This is my 4th canon product and you won't be disappointed. Dave
  24. Hey Pigeonfisher, When I lost 40lbs I stayed active and watched what I ate - very closely. I say stop eating bread, or limit your intake and just remain positive. Avoid processed foods and junk food and always add a salad to your lunch and or dinner. Dave
