  1. Hi, I am heading up to Bidwell Lake for a wedding this weekend http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Tilden+L...ss=Bidwell+Road anyone ever fish there? I am not sure what to expect in that area, what species and what lures/flies to bring thanks for any tips
  2. Hi all! Im making a trip for work up to Erin Ontario... I thought I might fish if there is something around there.. any places worth fishing? fly or spin casting..? thanks alot
  3. Im so excited to get into my first Pike! Im usually a salmon and trout guy who just moved here a couple years ago! anyone have luck with Flies or Top water lures? do you have to cast very far? how deep of water are they hanging out in? and I assume its catch+release?.. thx
  4. Awesome guys! im excited now....!! ya, im not really picky, anything that bites will be enough excitement from me I do really like dry fly fishing tho... any luck with surface flies? Oh ya, one question, if you have a tapered sinking line and add a wire leader won't that make the weight all weird for casting..? thanks again
  5. Hi all, just curious...anyone fly fish for pike at the Toronto Islands? What weight rod would you suggest + type of line...? I have only fly fished for rainbows in BC so pike is a totally different beast, literally What flies, dries or wet? colours? proven patterns? thanks for any suggestions, also when is the earliest I can target them? thanks
  6. Thanks for the suggestions I would like to make it a one day trip kinda thing no overnighters.... what about Toronto Islands...are they open for fishing now, pike possibly?
  7. hey all, so I finally have a week off... is there any place worth dropping a line that is accessible with TTC or GO Train? thanks for any suggestions
  8. The way I did it back in BC was..... take all the skeins and lay them out on newspaper and sprinkle non-iodized salt on them and ProCure this will dry them out and you may have to switch the newspaper once or twice depending on how much juice comes out of them wait until the eggs are the right firmness you prefer, most people like them like gummy worms..... once they are the right firmness immerse them in Borax and you now can freeze them. Only take out what you need when you go fishing, dont freeze-thaw them repeatedly. You can also cut them to bait sized pieces before you borax them so its more convienant on the river. good luck
  9. alot of members talk about "pier" fishing.... does this refer to the manmade rocks placed at the rivers/mouth edge that people fish from? like at port credit? I thought piers were sorta like docks...... thanks for the clarification.
  10. So, do you find that in the rivers (not the mouth) salmon will bite lures (spoons, spinners) just with casting and retrieving? or is it a better method to use a float and drift the hardware?
  11. thanks for the advice! great info.... with school near the corner i only have limited days to fish..... when is carping good until?
  12. So I went out to lakefront promenade park and there are tons of big carp crusing around, they are surfacing all over the place, even 5 feet away from shore I have went out twice and not even a solid hit. First day I used some canned green giant sweet corn strait on the hook with a sliding weight....I also tried a small piece of hot dog the second day (this evening) I used a hair rig with the same baits........... back in BC when i saw carp surfacing I would throw pieces of white bread at them and they would take them off the surface readily.....Here, nadda.......... any tips on how I can improve my luck? thanks
