So for the ones who are using a braid with a fluoro leader how are you connecting them? Uni knot, surgeon's knot, directly to a swivel? How long of a leader do you use? Sorry for so many questions, just always looking for advice to try and better my fishing game!

I need to put new line on my reels and was just wondering what type of line do you use? I have always just uses Mono, its cheap and it's been around forever but a lot of people I know keep telling my to switch to fluorocarbon. They say fluorocarbon keeps it strength better, sinks better, does not absorb water and is nearly invisible and that makes it better. But it's also 5x more expensive. Some articles I have read say go with mono with a 36 inch fluorocarbon leader. I fish pike, walleye and bass mostly. I don't think braid is needed for anything I fish. Is fluoro worth the extra cost or is it just another hyped up product?

Thanks for the info guys. Guess I can't really show my dad this post and say " see, told you I was right " bu then again he can't really say that to me either. I guess each situation is different. I think want really grinds my gears is when we are trolling and there are fish on the fish finder, he trolls by once and if he does not get a bite he just leaves . To me trolling through a bunch of fish once and moving on if you do not get a bite on the first try is not really good.

Just wanted to see what everyone opinion is on trolling vs casting for pike and walleye. I myself seem to have better luck casting ( maybe that's because I do most of my fishing from shore ) then trolling. Even when I am in the boat with my dad I am casting ahead of it. My dad on the other had will only troll, he does not believe in casting in any way. It has led to may arguments when we are in the boat together. I guess eves very old school about things, has to be trolling and pretty much will only use spoons ( red and white and the silver red eye ) . I believe both have their place but in the end I do think casting is better, you have more control over your line and can react better I think. I'm bored at work so I just wanted to see what experienced ( and not so experienced ) fishermen think. Eric P.S I had posted this by mistake in the wrong section. On my phone at work and I have stubby sausage fingers.

Thanks Mike. I will have to try it out. I guess the only good thing is that the only time I am in a boat is when I am with my dad and that is not very often so I usually just fish from shore. I would not say I have a weight problem, I have more of a height problem. If I was 10 feel tall I would be the perfect weight! Dang food tastes to good.

Well where I live ( Cornwall ) Walleye and Pike open this Saturday 06/May and it looks like its going to be really crummy weather. It's calling for 15-20+ mm of rain. I like fishing but I do believe I am getting to the age where I don't think it will be worth it to stand out there all day getting soaking wet. Maybe it the old age setting into my bones or maybe im just getting smarter and wiser in my old age ( smarter and wiser, yeah right lol ) but I think I will be sitting opening day out in this area . Now the good news is I also fish in another area ( Ompah ) opening day is a week later so I will be hoping for much better weather! Who else is planning on sitting out opening day due to the weather or am I the only baby?

Hi everyone thought I would introduce myself. Been a member for a little bit but this is my first post. I have been an avid sportsmen since I was a young boy. Growing up my father taught me how to hunt ( deer, moose ) and fish and and instilled a love and respect for the outdoors. Im 41, married and don't have any kids. Both my with and myself are very quiet people and i'm pretty shy around new people and it takes me a bit to open up to people. Many times I am taken for standoffish when in truth i'm just shy and nervous around new people . Growing up all my fishing and hunting was done in the Lanark/Ompah area. I have not hunted in several years as most of the people I hunted with growing up have moved away and we have lost touch with each other. I do miss it quite a bit and keep thinking I will get back into it but never seem to be able to. I still fish and I still love it! I have recently got my wife hooked on fishing also. So that's a good thing and a bad thing, good that I have something we can do together and share but bad that now when I buy new fishing gear she wants it also! I think one of my biggest fears in life is that if I die my wife will sell my fishing equipment for what I told here I payed for it and not what I actually payed for it. If she knew how much I had actually spent over the years I think she would divorce me. I now live in Cornwall, On. Not a bad place I guess but I miss where I grew up. There I knew the best places to hunt and fish. Here I have no idea where to go fishing. We practice catch and release for the most part ( If I go with my dad he likes to keep a few, he has the boat so his boat his rules.) and fish from shore, if anyone knows the Cornwall area and has any info on good spots to go to on public land that would be great. Also, if there's any one in the Cornwall area who wants to get together to go fishing please just message me, always looking for fellow fishermen/women to hang out with . Well , just wanted to give a quick into and say hi to everyone. Thanks for allowing me to join. Eric
