  1. I'll take 5 of each in every colour! Nice work!
  2. Something to keep in mind is controling inertia. Spool braking and/or thumbing provides this. Without brakes or thumbing, your lure is trying to slow down before the spool. When the spit hits the fan, it's because the spool's inertia trying to push the line through the guides instead of the lure pulling the line through the guides. Light mono and all braids are limp and clingy and will bunch up on the spool or in the guides. A heavy (stiff) mono line is a lot more forgiving but not foolproof. Understanding this concept and keeping the spool under control at all times will really help. Eventually you will be able to freespool in the middle of the cast thumbing when necessary as you feel a little line slap against your thumb. I tend to thumb the side of the spool rather than the line itself and find it reduces overthumbing and increases my distance.
  3. Disengage the spool (click the button) before starting your cast, not during.
  4. In addition to Terry's suggestion; try thumbing the spool before hitting the water. Eventually you will be doing this to control distance anyway. Trying to time the lure hitting the water is tough. I notice a big difference between casting my first generation citica and curado "D"s. The difference in quality is likely to help a novice. I think an expert baitcaster (not I) could probably throw a lower end reel with decent success but I could be wrong. Experts chime in?
  5. I'm not the marathon type. I spent my day sprinting to the bathroom in between 12 hour 'naps'. Feeling a lot better today. Sounds like a grualing race relying heavily on stratagy and endurance. If you had to do it over again, would you have ran differently?
  6. Good luck Jack; looking forward to your next fishing report!
  7. Some call it a bad day but think of it this way; You were able to be at your friends side when he needed you most and you able to protect a stranger when she needed you most. It says a lot about a man. Pretty good day in my opinion.
  8. No problems with my 522 after a year and the 525 has been flawless for 3-4 yrs. They don't see the water time 'guest boats' would but I'm happy with them thus far.
  9. Well done Emil; I wasn't sure you were going to get another chance driving out there!
  10. June? Whadareya, nuts? There's a lot of fishing to be done in April and May! Sorry about the last minute invite. I juggled my workload and made a last minute decision. Great report Joey and sorry to hear about the carnage! It's amazing how a few friends and fish can change 'the worst fishing day ever' into 'you guys wanna do it again tomorrow?' We found the trek from K-Bay/Oro to the Whitefish grounds a lot smoother than our last leg to I-Beach. Managed about 50km/h vs. 15-20 and a lot more evasive maneuvers!
  11. Great day Emil but I'm ready for the soft water. How 'bout next weekend? I don't get on the ice too often, only my second time this year and it's nice to get results. Killer weather out there today! Great to hook up with you again.

  13. Nice Lew! We're still settling in at our new place but I've yet to see any deer and the neighbours are pretty tight lipped. Oh well, I guess they won't be asking to borrow tools! Your post reminds me of a joke going around in email a bunch of years ago. It starts off much like your post; Day 1, peace and tranquility. By day 5.. "it's still snowing and the plow driver accidently plowed in my driveway". Day 12... "when will this bleeping snow stop and if I see that plow today I'll bleeeping bleep him!" I wish I could find it online, funny stuff.

  15. My Lowrance has trouble in really shallow water, it might be overwhelmed by the returns? Once I'm into 2-3' its fine.
  16. It could have been worse Mike, you could have ended up in 23rd place! Glad you got out!
