The Penn 209's are for downrigging salmon on Lake O with a Daiwa Heartland 9'6" H. They will also make due for Muskie/Pike trolling rods. The Penn 309 Leadcore will be used on Lake O and Lake E on an Abu Garcia "Fishstik" 8'6" M. Ready for bows, eyes and salmon but will likely find sheephead and silver bass. The trolling arsenal as it stands now... (2) Penn 209 / Daiwa Heartland Heavy 9'6" (Salmon downrigging / Muskie inlines and planer boards) (1) Penn 309 / Abu Garcia Fishstik Medium 8'6" (Leadcore) (2) Shimano TR200G / Shimano Triton Medium 8' (Salmon, bows, eyes downrigging and planer boards) (1) Shimano Triton 300 / Fenwick Riggerstik Medium 9' (Salmon, bows, eyes downrigging and planer boards) (1) Daiwa Great Lakes 47LC / Okuma Blue Diamond Roller Med-Heavy 8'6" (Wire line dipsy) Yet to buy... (2) Linecounters for dipsy and muskie trolling. I'm thinking Convectors or SG47's but may splurge for Tekota's. If I go the cheaper route I'll put them on Daiwa Heartland dipsy rods. If I splurge for the Tekota's I will probably spend extra money on rods too... Talora's maybe. I'm worth it Oh, almost forgot, need a rod rack! -Brian

Joey, when you pick your drivers you will see in the first column beside thier name how many times you have used them in a race... when you are viewing your team it will be the second column to the right of the 'active driver' check box. Look for 0/9 or 1/9 etc. -Brian

Mr. Chong, outstanding reply. Frank, don't take this as parenting advice... just my perspective. As a parent, we're just along for the ride. We can influance and provide guidance but a child isn't going to learn to like brussel spouts by being forced to eat them. I think it's our job as parants to create opportunities and encourage participation, in something... anything. I think children come by competitive spirit naturally and the most competitive children aren't always the best at what they do. The children that excel in an activity have a genuine interest in what they are doing and apply themselves accordingly. As it pertains to fishing; I plan on spending a lot of time on the water with my daughters this summer. Whether thier holding a rod or tanning on the casting deck whilst I troll for trophies, I don't care. I just want it to be enjoyable time with 'Daddy'. -Brian

Hi Maureen, I'm pretty sure Cabela's was first on the scene and they only have a handfull of stores. Cabela's stores tend to be destinations whereas Bass Pro has many small stores and a handfull of destination-like stores as you would see in Vaughn. I've never been to Cabela's but have been ordering for years through the catologue. (best mail order experiences ever!) The Dundee store is about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes from the border from what I've been told. -Brian

Hey Dutch, Been there, done that.... I used West System Epoxy for my transom. I didn't like paying the price for it but a couple years after doing so, the guy I sold the boat to hit a rock at 30+ mph and tore the bottom end of the motor. He said there was no damage to the transom whatsoever and still looked better than his dining room table. I would credit that to this epoxy's ability to flex without cracking thus keeping your wood sealed. Another product I'd recommend is Sicoflex to seal any openings from bolt holes and mounting screws. Another unique product is Seacast. Never used it but I like the idea... http://transomrepair.com/zk/ My transom project...

Universal Drum on Royal Windsor Drive in Mississauga. They also have a place in Toronto around the stockyards area... don't remember the street. They recondition/decontaminate used drums for resale. I think most food grade drums these days are plastic. -Brian

Congrats on the new house! I'll ask for TonyB and Fishnsled... Since your garage is occupied, does the pool have a launch ramp? -Brian

It made listening to the race at work quite enjoyable (WGR AM 550). At one point it was Jimmy Johnson and my 4 drivers in 2nd to 5th place... (Johnson, Gordon, Hamlin, Busch, Yeley)... now that would have been a week to remember! -Brian

Outside. Otherwise, as the boat displaces water pressure could pop your plug inwards if it was loose or too dry (shrunk). I used to make it a practice of having one plugged in from the outside with a spare on the inside readily available. Use a bildge pump to rid yourself of the water onboard. -Brian

Thank-you, thank-you very much. I'd like to thank all the little people that helped get me here...

Mandy, I don't think moving an interior wall will accomplish what you are trying to achieve. The garage floor is normally at grade while the main floor is probably close to two feet above grade. I think the least cost-prohibitve soultion would be extending the garage forward which would result in less driveway and possible road allowance issues. It's unfortunate but I can understand why a builder would not be interested in making such alterations when the next person to come through the door will buy the house as-is. That's not to say the right house/builder isn't out there, keep looking and try to enjoy your search... you don't need stress now, you'll have enough on moving day! -Brian

Not nearly enough? That's a pretty heavy "slap on the wrist". I was actually quite surprised and encouraged by how high the fine was reletive to the offence. Obviously his repeat offender status played into the judgement.

Tony, if you don't mind a little effort after a hard day of fishing you could probably fit your 19' sideways in a double garage... big single door or two door opening. A swing-away tongue and wheel dollies... http://www2.northerntool.com/product-1/212131.htm It's sure cheaper than a custom home and will make shopping for a home easier. -Brian

I know your dilemma... 18' garage. My initial solution was to open up the back wall of the garage to accomodate the motor in the kitchen. My wife was pretty unreasonable about that. I eventually found offsite indoor storage... year round at $10/foot. Great deal but it was 45 minutes away. I eventually sold the boat. Fast forward a few years to now and I have a larger boat and we're discussing widening the driveway or putting it in the side yard or backyard... all of which will be reletively expensive. I am fortunate that my local bylaw permits boat storage up to (m) 2.4 width, 2.4 height and 6 length. I am also permitted to widen my driveway to 50% or 6 meters whichever is less within road allowance. This of course means the boat will still be outside. I can get outside controlled access storage for $30/month... hmmmm.... but enough about me. Do you have to have your boat indoors? -Brian

You're allowed to keep your boat, tools and tackle in your kitchen? Nice job Dax, it matches your rod holder mounts nicely too. When are you going to pull the carpet and install hardwood floors? -Brian

Tough week!! Lots of less-than-steller results but daplumma takes the week with 292 points! I wouldn't bring the cousin into this... you don't really know if it will help or hurt you. You have an in with the fishing and you can build on that relationship. When you have some smoked steel for him, drop it off and ask if he's ever tried smoked turkey. -Brian

Barilko, this might narrow your search a little. A glass boat in the 20 foot range will almost always be on a tandem trailer. Check wih the MTO regarding tow vehicle and licensing requirements. You may be required to tow with a commercial vehicle as there have been recent changes regarding GVWR. A couple weeks ago the guy buying my Jeep wanted to rent a tandam axle car trailer to haul it home. U-Haul couldn't rent to him because it would have required a commercial vehicle. I did a little search online for more information but I couldn't find anything relating to boat trailering. Maybe a phone call or two could clear this up before you fall in love with a boat only to find out you'll have a bunch of hoops to jump through to take it over the road.
