  1. All of the SUV's mentioned are top notch vehicles. If it where my choice i would keep the f-150. 10 years old should be just about broke in by now.
  2. I have been fishing with rapalas since the early 70s. I remember using my Pa's lures out of his old metal tackle box. God forbid if I ever got a snag and lost one. Was in my favorite tackle shop and picked up a couple of new lures but I'm not sure if I should fish them or take the hooks off and make earrings out of them for a Christmas gift for my gal.
  3. thanks for all the replys, whenever my furnace breaks down again, i will definatly reach out to the fishing community for quotes!
  4. I have a Lennox N. gas furnace in my home in Peel region. Its on its 22nd year and has worked perfect since. Last week, it failed to start so i called a local technician to fix. After listening to a sales pitch recommending getting a new furnace install, I had my furnace fixed by replacing a minor but expensive part. After inspecting my furnace, I doesn't look like its in too bad condition, the burners look good and most all components look clean. Is there an expire date on these, or can I expect to a few more years use out of this furnace?
  5. There seems to be less crappie the last couple of years, especially this year. I believe that the crappie have hit the walleye fry hard the last few years and hope a robust walleye return is under way on the tri lakes.
  6. they are tomatoes that have been stewed then put through a straining machine. pure tomatoe sauce with a little salt and basil.
  7. The wifey and i spent some time in the garage. Real nice tomatoes this year. we missed making the sauce last year and the store bought stuff just isn't the same.
  8. i didnt notice it making any noises, released it right after photo. looked like nice pike bait
  9. This guy hit a crankbait in a shollow bay on a deep water north type lake. it resembles a chub but was 12" long. purple hue to the scales and soft finned.
  10. I find that there are plenty of bass around most everywhere I fish, but I would like to see a minimum of 12 inch keep size limit on them
  11. check the condition of the carpet, try to get a feeing of the floorboards. Stand in the boat and if you feel any soft spots, if the floor needs changing. check the wiring, if it looks neat, thats good, if it looks all spliced, then be aware. check the bilge pump and listen weather it turns on smoothly and quietly and also the pump for live well. check the electronics if they operate and the holders are not cracked. check the lighting and the trolling motor if there is one. make sure the troller works. check the age of the batteries for starting and trolling check the trailer tires if they are worn and see if the trailer is equipped with bearing buddies. does it have a spare? check the prop look for bent and dents and unscrew the lower unit gear oil screw to check condition of the oil and for metal bits on the screw. most the top issues are bargaining items and not real deal breakers and can be fixed or replaced for reasonable amounts depending if yu can do it yourself. the one thing that is most important is to have the motor compression checked. if compression varies by more than 10%from one cylinder to another or there is no compression, the motor will need major expensive work.
  12. I recieved a call this moring form someone claiming they were representing my credit card company, and said that a intenational transaction was made this morning. They went on to say that it was urgent to cancel my credit card and then asked for pesonal information. When i refused to give any information and asked them what phone # they were calling from, they hung up. Just giving all a heads up.
  13. Filled up just outside of Detroit this afternoon.
  14. I replaced some carpeted panels on my boat with rubber checker plate runner from princess auto. Looks real good and a lot cheaper than marine carpet.
  15. Been targeting walleye in the weeds since the opener on the tri-lakes in the kawarthas. All the walleye that were caught (maybe 10) have been in milfoil and coontail or a mix of both. using mostly bucktails, and twister tails, with a side order of crankbait. The type of weeds that have not produced is the cabbage patch. Nothing. They look so promising whenever fishing them, but then only disappointment. Don't think I ever caught one from cabbage. Is this unusual or is there a trick to fishing cabbage?
  16. I take it as everyone has checked the batteries in their flashlights.
  17. A week ago Saturday, was checked by the police for safety equipment on the water. 11.00 am. Life Jackets...check Throw rope.......check Paddle.....check Working flashlight....?....(I bring one if I know I will be out towards dusk) but wait, there's one in the orange safety kit tucked away in storage. So I pull out the dollar store flashlight that is supplied with the kit and look at the police. They are smiling with anticipation....I think I put new batteries last season. My thumb on the button thinking to myself .."this is going to be expensive if this baby doesn't light up" Well it lights up just barely enough to get me off the hook. So take a minute and check your flashlights are working and be safe on the water.
  18. AHH no, not the drain plug.... left the livewell running at the dock and didn't close the hatch. It was pumping in more than draining..And I was in for a nice lunch and a nappy.
  19. Hi all, I had a unfortunate event on the walleye opener and the result being 2 deep cycle lead acid type and one starting battery lead acid type battery were submerged in water for about an hour. They seem like they have no short term power loss after being recovered. Question is will there be any problems long term ? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
  20. I stop at least once every spring to see the annual walleye-suckers spawn at lock 19. With the low water levels, it was easy to see the suckers, however it looked like the walleye had in the most part vacated the area. Again to my surprise and disappointment, there were several people fishing at the end of the walk pier with disregard of law and ethic.
  21. Great time spent.......looks like a chip off the old block!
  22. If you are running both the batteries for a 24V. trolling motor, you may want to consider getting 2 new ones and coring out the ones you have.
  23. Since Joining the OFC I haven't much been a contributor and shared insight on many of the put fourth by the community. I've been pretty much a lurker and have checked in almost daily. I topics and reply's have been informative, and always interesting and enjoyable. I spend most of my fishing time on upper Buckhorn on weekends, looking for walleye and crappie. I also am very fortunate to have made friends with one of the locals in the cottage community who is a retired bass tournament pro, and he take me out on his boat for bass on good weather days during the summer months. I cant forget the first time we went out.... I show up with my spinning gear, a couple of my rods missing their tips. Currently, during this soft water off season, I am replacing some of the worn out carpet in my boat and have fixed a no- spark condition that my 50hp. mariner left me with at the end of the season out in the middle of buckhorn. Looking forward to good fishing in 2015 and hope all here on the board have a safe and happy season.
