  1. P.s. I've never brought them from the states so I can't answer that question. I'd buy them from NB if you can!
  2. I've done what you want to do many times and I have family members who work in the lobster business in cape Breton. You've got the cooler, so I'll start after that. Lobsters are typically shipped with a few frozen gel packs and a few wet fiber cloths (soaked in salt water). When packed like this they will last 48 hours no problem. The lobsters are packed dry (not in water) all they require is cold tempeture and a little moisture. Pack a bag of salt water to steam them with when you get home. You should expect to pay $3.50 to $5 per pound from the fishermen. Good luck!!
  3. Wow! Nice pics!
  4. You can fish for mackerel during the day and squid (at night) at the Canso causeway (the bridge that connects Nova Scotia mainland to cape Breton) as you cross onto cape Breton you'll see a big concrete pier on the right Hand side. There's also lots of parking there. I'll be there around the same time (getting married there aug 9th). As said before...almost all the brooks and rivers have brook trout. Be sure you carefully read the regs for any of the larger rivers as they can be very confusing. You also don't need a license to fish in any tidal waters.
  5. there is no mag capacity restriction for a pump shotgun. You're fine!
  6. There was a post on the float fishing board about this guy sticking a builder with all the materials for a build. Only heard the one side of the story, but he recommend getting a deposit from this Ethan fellow.
  7. thanks, I know their different than the norm! but that's the look I was going for.
  8. lol! it's a sustain. I'm not a big fan of the handle, I'll probably end up making a new one!
  9. The float rod is a GLX 13' 3 power and was the first handle I ever did. I rebuilt the handle with a fixed wooden reel sweat and new cork. The spinning rod is my latest project i've done, it's also a GLX 6' 10" medium. I turned the reel seat and butt from a piece of stabalized buckeye burl. The handle was done with natural and burnt cork mix with a few pieces of natural burl. The last pics are of new handles I made for two of my float reels. One set is cocobolo and the other is marbled acrylic.
  10. its a box fish! similar to a puffer but it can't ''puff''. it has a hard body.
  11. I agree with Gerrit, unions get to greedy and end up with nothing. To anyone who feels $28 and hour is fair wage to put a few screws in an engine over and over when skilled trades are making only a few dollars more per hour needs a head shake! I'm not taking shots at anyone personally, just using this as an example. It's all about numbers and the type of industry. It's simple math....... As soon as the wages are pushed past that line where it becomes more economical to move the operation overseas then it most likely will. People need to realize where they stand and unions need to start giving a sh!t about the financial states of the company's who employ the people they represent. For example people who manufacture cars/ car parts are in more danger than tradesmen like plumbers, sheet metal workers or electricians since there jobs can not be sent overseas. What I'm trying to say is unions are not all theyre cracked up to be. Shure they do a lot of good for people but as soon as they cross that fine line of fair/greed everything they've done is erased because your job is gone! people need to realize that sometimes it's just better to have a job, especially in smaller towns. A few extra bucks an hour or nothing seems like simple math to me. But apparently simple math isn't so simple to those who run these unions. Thanks
  12. Erindale is fishable, there are a few nice holes open down from the breakers. I'm thinking it will be good mid week with the warmer temps.
  13. Get a crossbow...........problem solved!
  14. What about cross/compound/long bows? You don't need a pal for those. They are used for hunting nearly every type of game. It makes no sense that you need a firearms license to get a hunting license.
  15. My biggest problem with braid on a pin is the line gets pinched between itself after landing a decent sized fish. The first few drifts after we're always a pain in the ass. I fish 3-6 pound leaders depending on target species, the little stretch that mono provides is a good buffer to keep leaders from breaking. If your fishing a 6' 6" rod line stretch will cause you a few bad hook sets especially in the slop, but the length of a 13 foot float rod compensates with a huge swing radius. Every one of my spinning reels have braid, but not my pins. At the end of the day it's just personal preference.
  16. I agree mono, is the the only line my float reels will see from now on.
  17. Looks like we need a new thread for this!
  18. Haven't stepped foot in bass pro since sail opened. Had a few issues of my own there. Plus the fact that they seem to have a knock off of nearly every brand name product they sell branded under one of their 10 -15 brands. I know business is business but when I seen bps "little Leo" right beside the classic little Cleo in nearly the same packaging and for 50 cents cheaper, that was my breaking point! They are ripping off every brand they used to build their business. In my opinion they're worse than wal mart. Not to mention sail is cheaper on nearly everything I've purchased. Sorry for the rant but I just couldn't help it.
  19. Most of the back lakes north of sudbury should be good. The ones we fished have 4-6" on the bottom layer and 2" on the top with about 4" of slush in between. In a few more days they should lock together for a good 10-12".
