  1. You had me at the butt burger (lol, wth is with that??). Anyway, it's great to see carp fishing picking up! Have to give that a trip someday myself. The last time I caught one I cried....I was about 6 years old and it scared the crap out of me, lol! Cheers!
  2. Came straight to my house in London, ON via Canada Post. Was a pleasant surprise. I am used to having to go to the local post office since they never actually tried to deliver the packages when I lived in Toronto.
  3. Received my Guidewear order yesterday. Looks great! The tackle/boat bag is really nice too! Thanks again. Cheers!
  4. You could try some places near/inside Algonquin park along the highway 60 corridor starting in Huntsville at the west gate to Whitney at the east gate. Plenty of hotels, motels, cottages, inns and resorts along this route. AP is great for hikes, canoeing and fishing [keep in mind, the brook and lake trout fishing season will have ended by then, but everything else is open]. Might be hard to find somewhere with availability though as it's a very popular destination in the fall.
  5. I can fish for Splake in the park until November 30, unless something has changed. http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/LetsFish/2ColumnSubPage/STDPROD_081310.html
  6. Hope you have better luck than we did! Went up this past weekend and tried a few corridor lakes for Splake from shore, but only managed some small perch and smallmouth bass. I think it was just too sunny out for fishing (it was a gorgeous weekend!) and perhaps the water hasn't cooled enough for them to be close to shore. I'll probably head back up in 2-3 weeks and try again. Good luck!!
  7. Thanks for the heads up. I've been holding off on this purchase for a while now. Decided not to pass this one up. Cheers!
  8. These may help: http://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/pdf/fish_survey_2010_final.pdf http://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/pdf/fishstocking.pdf Good luck!
  9. A bunch of operators are listed on this site, but don't know much about any of them: http://www.temagamiicefishing.com/temagami-icehut-operators.html http://www.temagamiicefishing.com/lake-temagami-icehut-operators.html http://www.temagamiicefishing.com/marten-river-icehut-operators.html Lake Restoule may also be a possibility. Considered it for my last trip, but decided on somewhere else. Everett's Northern Excursions Lakeside Cottage (sleeps 7 On Ice bungalows Everett Grawbarger 705-729-1059 I think Martin's Camp also rents huts, or at least used to. Wish I had some more personal experience to share with you, but I primarily ice fish on Lake Simcoe. I do try to take an annual weekend trip to a different lake each season, but have not yet ventured to the Nippissing area for ice fishing. Good luck!
  10. I'd imagine any American Plan lodge that requires a flight out of Nakina, Hornepayne, White River, Wawa or Hawk Junction would suit your needs. There are a bunch of them. Air Ivanhoe also has one - they fly out of Ivanhoe lake, which is about 9 hours north of Toronto. You might consider a boat-in option as well. For example, there are several boat-in American Plan lodges on Lady Evelyn Lake that provide a really good alternative if you don't want to drive 12 hours [assuming you're coming from the GTA], but want that remote feeling. Island 10 probably has the best rates of most AP lodges I have looked into (about $1150 per person, whereas most others are about $1400+ per person - albeit, they also include the flight). There's also a boat-in on Ramsey Lake that provides the food, but you do the cooking. Always thought that was an interesting idea.
  11. Some great photos there! Regardless of the less than expected catches, it really looks like a nice area to spend time in.
  12. What a place....thanks for putting your report together. Your nighttime shot reminds me that I will need to bring a nice telescope along with my fishing rods whenever I manage to get up there. Cheers!
  13. I know this thread is from a couple years ago, but was looking up Quantz and Napken and was wondering how your trip went??
  14. They are a stocked fish. Just contact the MNR in the area or search the net for the stocking lists. I'll search through my pdfs to see if I can find it. edit: here is a link the 2007-2010 stocking list for the Bancroft-Mazinaw area - http://www.ontariostewardship.org/councils/bancroft/files/Stocking_List_2007_2010_final.pdf
  15. Never shop eBay after a night of drinking. You end up with all sorts of crap, trust me. Lol!! $1 a lure isn't that much, so if they turn out to be duds, you're not out that much money. Regardless, I am sure they'll probably catch you some fish, but you might want to change out the hooks first. Personally, I'd skip those sort of "bargains" unless it was a lot of used lures of known manufacture. Post some pics when you get them!
  16. Thanks for the report! Looks like your family had a great time. I've tried to book at Happy Day a few times myself, but never managed to get an opening since it's so popular. It's nice to see some photos and a report of the area. Not surprised about their son either, as I believe they have another teenage son that practically runs their other camp. Cheers!
  17. I do this as well and for the same reasons I also use the small "ziploc" type baggies from the dollar store to store a lot of terminal tackle and put them into a larger Plano box. I also have some of those really small Plano boxes and fly fishing boxes for various hooks/swivels etc. The larger but flat (or half-height) Plano boxes are great too. The small medical bottles and dram bottles (pill bottles) are also good. I think it just depends on what "final" storage box you use. A standard tackle box is more accommodating to those larger bottles, but if you primarily use Plano boxes they can be a pain unless you find bottles that fit or you use the larger/taller Plano boxes.
  18. Uni-uni or Reverse Albright depending on the diameter of the mono/fluoro.
  19. I am sure it will be the trip you will compare all your future trips to. Have a good time!!
  20. Somewhere in the Kawarthas - Dalrymple, Balsam, Sturgeon, Pigeon, Buckhorn - is probably suitable for you. You will probably have to start calling around now as many will be booked up. Here are a few places to start: http://www.thekawarthas.net/tourism/dine-and-stay/06=resorts-and-cottages/ http://www.thekawarthas.net/tourism/relax-and-play/13=fishing/ http://www.bobcaygeon.org/cottages.html Good luck!
  21. What kind of bass?
  22. Thanks for all the suggestions folks. Was very helpful. I checked out both Lambeth Rod & Tackle and Angling Sports today. I ended up picking up a St.Croix rod from Lambeth R&T. Angling Sports had some Shimano and St.Croix rods on sale too...almost bought another, but had to resist!! I imagine I'll be a regular at both these places soon enough. I'll also have to make a trip out to Angling Outfitters when I get the chance. Thanks again, Cheers.
  23. Well, I recently relocated to London, Ontario from Toronto and need some suggestions on where to go for some decent tackle. Looking to pick up a Shimano Compre or St.Croix Premiere rod and just not sure if there are any stores that carry these products at a fair price. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
  24. I purchased a couple Abu Garcia Ambassadeur reels off of eBay for a decent price a couple of years ago and am very happy with their performance. So, I'd also recommend going the used route if you're on a budget as you can get some solid gear. Especially musky gear. It seems to me that people get into musky fishing and load up on gear only to realize they rather fish for something else, so you see a lot of it for sale. You will most definitely find a good deal on some relatively new gear if you're patient enough.
  25. Algonquin Park - rent a canoe and paddle off into the sunset
