  1. If you do decide to pick some up, believe it or not, the cheapest place I have seen them for sale in the GTA is at Canadian Tire for $11.99. Although, Le Baron carries the full line now, but I forget what they were charging.
  2. As per the 2011 MNR Fishing Regulations for Ontario: Hooks and Lines – An angler may use only one line, unless otherwise stated in the regulations. Two lines may be used when angling from a boat in parts of the Great Lakes (see exceptions to the general regulations) and for ice fishing in many areas (see Ice Fishing, page 11). A fishing line must not have more than four hooks attached. Hook – A hook includes a single-pointed or multiple-pointed hook on a common shaft but does not include a snagger or spring gaff. The number of hooks includes any single-pointed or multiple-pointed hooks that are part of a lure.
  3. Thanks for the suggestions/advice. I will go and try some on. Cheers.
  4. I don't own a boat, rent often. Many places have pretty horrible life jackets and I have been contemplating picking up my own for a while now. I am one of those types that doesn't really wear his life jacket mostly due to the fit and comfort. I want to change this so I wear my life jacket as much as possible. I don't really want to drop the coin for an inflatable one just yet (although, I do own a small waist pouch manual inflatable) so was looking at my options. Of course, I have to go try some on (and I have, but it was a while back), but was looking into the Mustang Deluxe Fisherman's Vest and the standard Nylon Water Sports Vest (the price difference is about $40 between these two) - trying to take advantage of the LeBaron sale on these (15% off). Anyone have any recommendations or had any problems with the Mustang vests? Thanks for any help.
  5. Don't forget the currency exchange. Even though our dollar has gotten stronger, most stores aren't going to change prices to reflect that. Actually, many raised prices as a result. You also mentioned they were on sale. I purchased bags of Yum for $2 (BPS sale last year I think) and PowerPro for $12 (Le Baron a couple of months ago) on sale here too. Also, it is a different country with a different tax system and a much larger population. Why do people always assume the cost of goods should be the same in the US and Canada? Heck, the tackle prices at some stores, like Canadian Tire, are 20-50% more than a lot of places within the same city!
  6. I have a feeling that the full rack of Bondi baits I keep passing by at BPS will start to empty soon. Keep the videos coming!
  7. I agree, beautiful location and very healthy looking fish.
  8. It's hard to answer without a price range. So, if it were me and my lack of huge budget, it would be a shimano symetre 2500/3000 on a st.croix premier 7' medium fast; and an abu garcia 6500 on a st.croix premier 7' 6" medium heavy fast musky rod. The medium rod is good for almost anything and the musky rod for pike and musky fishing.
  9. Lol, I just saw a bunch of this worm food on clearance at my local Canadian Tire. The one I saw was made by Lindy. I bought green worms in the past just for kicks and I really don't think it makes any difference . Just another gimmick.
  10. I figured, if canned beans were worthy of their own thread that I might as well pick some up for my upcoming trip. Never had them before. $1.27 at my local Wally world.
  11. Gulp works for me. Is it that much better than other comparable plastics, well, I have my doubts. I like the Gulp minnows, Fry and various panfish baits. Some of the products have no equivalent that I have come across as well. So, if you are looking for some type of artificial minnow, the Gulp does work for a lot of anglers based on what I have read on the internet. However, I am sure there are other products that work just as well and cost less.
  12. Muskie Bay on Rice Lake has a trailer section. Don't know much about it, but it's my go to resort on Rice lake. Great owners.
  13. I have watched a couple different scalers in the past, but never used owned one. One was a drum type that rotated horizontally in a plastic bin. This thing kept jamming up, but maybe he overloaded it, I don't know. The other was an old industrial potato peeler. That worked quite well.
  14. Wikipedia can relay it better than I: Sorry for the derail. Nice Pike!! Ok, back on track.
  15. Great report. I love the lure "roadkill"! That alone testifies to the success of your trip. I liked those videos, some were quite humorous.
  16. Thanks for the video. It was well done.
  17. Awesome report! Looking forward to the pictures from the other members of your crew. After Attawapiskat, how can you fish anywhere else? It's the fishing version of chasing the dragon.
  18. Lots of threads on Nagagami on Walleye Central. From what I have read, Nagagami is supposed to have excellent walleye fishing. Another outfitter on the lake, Expeditions North, gets a lot of praise and it's one of the places I plan on visiting.
  19. I personally don't think it will make any difference. Today, the destruction of freshwater fisheries is the result of habitat loss from things like damns, pollution and invasive species. I don't think the average "uneducated" weekend warrior has much impact. Ultimately, having to take a test would make little difference to me personally; but much like everything else the government does, I am sure it would raise the cost of obtaining a license substantially. That money wouldn't be going back to conservation either. It would be going to all the extra employees required for managing the testing program.
  20. Lucky dogs! Nice fish! I'd be smiling like the Joker if I had a day like that.
  21. I haven't done it myself, but seen many. People used toolboxes or ammo boxes for the case. Forget the suction cup for sure, real pain. Piece of wood and a C-clamp is far superior. I purchased a portable sonar and tossed the suction cup after a few trips. To replace it I purchased one of those metal transducer mounts that you clamp on instead. They are pretty horrible too.
  22. St.Croix rod - 5'6" UL Premier (currently 15% off at BPS, but not sure about selection) with a Shimano reel - probably a Sedona to keep the price around $150. Lebaron also has a 15% off "sale" for members for the month of June. The Shimano Sedona is around $66 and the Sahara $88. If you want to keep it more local, those Bob Izumi rods at CT that cuzza mentioned might be worth a look. They also have the Pflueger President on sale for $60. Might also make a good combo if you can find the UL version of the reel, but I think I only saw one size where I went.
  23. Lol, I hear ya!! Yes, after 11pm or something its' all infomercials. The few times I sat down to watch WFN was on movie night and infomercial time. Never did get to see many shows, lol - and when I did, it was fishing in Australia or for Redfish in salt flats.
  24. The Wenebegon Outpost camp at Five Mile Lake Lodge was recommended to me. Have not been though, but would like to. It's a remote ATV-to outpost cabin on Wenebegon lake. Happy Day Lodge is another very popular place. Haven't been there either =(. Tried to book a week a few times, but they get booked up pretty fast. Ivanhoe lake is a nice lake to fish. There are several boat-to outpost camps- Air Ivanhoe has three outposts and Red Pine has two [i'd go with Air Ivanhoe]. We stayed at the resort at Red Pine. Next time I would go to one of the outposts. Also, this is the only other lake [the other being Simcoe] that I have personally caught true Jumbo Perch, if that interests you.
  25. Was just referring to the map. There wasn't a legend showing what fish were what on this particular map.
