Well Friday around noon went to try our luck for some crappies....the crappies werent biting but the OOS largemouth and a few pike were hungry for some salted minnows....had one pike that was close to 15 pounds wrap itself up right by the dock and snap the line....either way still lots of fun on crappie gear.... On Saturday we chose to sleep in because we knew we would have our little river.....took a drive by all the other rivers and sure enough....PACKED....so we ventured down to our little spot and wouldn't you know it.....no vehicles.....get down to the river....no footprints.....ahhhh...nothing beats having an entire stretch of river to yourself on opening day.....here is a taste of the stretch we were fishing....you can tell it doesen't get fished much...lots of thick bush.. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c...11/nicehole.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c.../backofhole.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c...hawk11/logs.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c...1/downagain.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c.../downstream.jpg Next up is a taste of what comes out of this stream...ended up getting 1 little rainbow and 3 gorgeous browns....well they were gorgeous but lost their colour by the time I took this picture.. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c.../openingday.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c...wsandbrowns.jpg Now this fish that my buddy caught...we ended up getting 2 fish each and I also caught a catfish and he caught a sunfish....anyways this fish is the dark one in the above pictures....we were standing there fishing a hole and I was retying....we were bottom bouncing salted minnows with our crappie rods which was alot of fun when you tied into a fish....anyways I look down into the hole and in about 2 feet of water this fish was just sitting there....I said Dan look at that....so he threw his minnow upstream and drifted it down in front of the fish...the fish took a look at it and backed off...Dan let the minnow sink into the sand and the fish moved back up towards the minnow....Dan gave the minnow a twitch and the brown lunged forward and nailed it....I yelled FISH ON before Dan even set the hook....anyways here is that fish shortly after it was landed and that is the sand it was sitting on behind Dan.... http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c...wk11/Heydan.jpg One other cool thing that happened on Saturday was I had 2 jack rabbits run not 2 feet from me....I literally could have stuck out my leg and tripped them....it was so cool....they followed the path from the far side of the river....across an old tree over the water....around the bend...right by me and up the hill on our side of the river....I wish I had time to videotape it....we found multiple turkey feathers....and loads of deer and raccoon tracks...just an amazing day...I got to experience mother nature at its absolute finest....it is really nice when you have places such as this to escape from the crowds and the real world.....Absolutely one of the best openers in a long time! P.S. I apologize for the dead fish pictures but I'll have you know they tasted fantastic... Till next time, Hawk

NF Deer Gets Taken Out From 950 Yards Away
chickenhawk replied to drwxr's topic in General Discussion
ive seen that before....thats an impressive shot i have to say....wonder what kind of gun he was using...although that deer had no chance.....he would have had an even lesser chance if he was 50 yards away so i have to say nice shot from 950 yards.... Hawk -
LETS GO RED WINGS!!

chickenhawk replied to Cast Adventures's topic in General Discussion
THAT LOOKS LIKE SO MUCH FUN!!! I miss hammering smallies down at the bay....seeing reports like this make me not want to go north this summer and stay down in Long Point at my trailer......nothing is more fun than fighting smallies on an ultra light rod.....absolutely favourite fish in the world....thanks for posting! -
i'd say! wish i could take the measurements for a pig like that....then it would be on my wall....all in all a trophy fish...by anyones standards

1st Spring Steelhead Caught In My Life/Rod Recommendation
chickenhawk replied to young_one's topic in General Discussion
UH OH!!! THERES SOME DIRT ON THAT FISH!!! LOL im just joking......may there be many more to come....might I suggest buying a St. Croix....great reliable rods and perfect for steelies...many guys im sure will beg to differ but it's all about what you like and not what the guy at the tackle shop tells you will like....or me for that matter...good luck and hope to see you on the water someday... Till then, Hawk -
well said Kemper! maybe you did see that fish this year! Never know! haha

condolences to you and the rest of your family -
It actually was weighed.....and it came in at 21....no one ever said anything about weight...is what my buddy told me...even if it didn't have an exact weight you can still tell it is at least 20 lbs....i mean look at the head on it....
-
they also rent them from Funny Farm marina.......as i mentioned earlier but like these guys said im not too sure if they rent too many boats before opening day of bass....
-
Obviously somebody said the fish was held up to the camera.....next up is that it was photoshopped.....no that was the real deal.....real fish real person.....as far as i am told the fish swam away....
-
Well.....call me a liar if you would like but this fish was actually caught...and I am sure you can tell where it was caught.....I did not catch this...nor did I know the guy who caught this fish....it was caught by a friend of a friend and apparently that was his first year ever steelheading!! LOL some guys fish their whole life to catch a fish like this.....some are just luckier than others I guess....but still BIG fish..... http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c.../WSIBpg7001.jpg Here are a couple pictures of my most recent outings....as you can see I haven't been out in quite a while and the last time I did go we forgot to bring a camera....oh well plenty of fish porn coming after the weekend... http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c...79776_45761.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c...79777_50261.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c...38509_20261.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c...38511_23571.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/c...38542_17611.jpg Till next time, Hawk

chickenhawk replied to little angler's topic in General Discussion
All you have to do anymore is read the name of the post and you know what the picture is already.....I didn't even have to look....I knew right away.....haha my pet chimpanzee caught that with it's bare hands shoulda seen it!!! lol till next time, Hawk -
Rich brings up a good point.....the mouth of big creek has always produced well for pike where the causeway crosses over the river....i've also seen some fairly big carp caught down there.....heck you can even catch pike in the channels of all the marinas down there.....anyways good luck Hawk
-
i know the old cut rents boats i believe....and i think funny farm marina also rents out pontoon boats....not sure if they rent too many boats before opening day though....i always rent from Sandboy....Wayne has always been really good...

I currently live in Waterloo but am originally from Aylmer, so I fish mostly around the London area, Long Point Bay is currently my favourite smallmouth fishery, I only fished the Eastern Tribs this year because I went to school in Lindsay, next fall I will be back at my nice relaxing non-touched tribs, this summer I won't be fishing that area at all...but if you are still in the area next fall we can get together for some fishing.....
-
had the same vest since i was 8 years old still works just fine for me.....couple rips in it now but its not how you look on the river, its how many fish you catch....im sure they all have their own pros and cons to them as well.... Till next time, Hawk

Go to Halley's Camps...they'd love to have you! And i would love to take you fishing as well.... Till then, Hawk
