  1. That's my theory as well regarding the stove ...if you look close at the first picture, the stove end of the shack is the end that broke through the ice....these guys pulled that shack out on New Year's Day with only 8" of ice thickness and BTW...the owner of this shack also put his F150 through the ice right up to the roof of the truck last Mar/07, just across the bay from where the shack is ...go figure
  2. I walked out today wearing my HH survival suit after I saw 5 ATVs parked around the shack helping out with the recovery...PLUS...I watched them all day walkin' around the hut with chainsaws!!
  3. I looked out my window Sunday morning and was shocked to see that an ice shack out here on the Ottawa broke through the ice sometime overnight!!!!! The lads were using it right up until 18:00 Saturday evening!!....the shoreline is pretty flooded due to the all the run-off from the mild weather we had, so these guys walked out onto the ice using planks It still boggles my mind what some people will do for a fish Here's the morning shot (sorry for the bluriness) 3 guys started using chainsaws to cut around the shack starting at 8:30AM yesterday...they called it a day at 16:30... I walked out today to see the progress..shack is almost out...what a freaking mess there is a huge open hole now and lot's of ice blocks on the ice from the chainsaw that are frozen now from last night...this is a main snowmobile route from the creek to the gas bar....I hope no one hits those blocks of ice on their sleds or they will get hurt bad!!
  4. I just purchased a 2008 Kawasaki 650cc BruteForce and full coverage came to $297/yr
  5. Here's a Brookie for ya!!
  6. It's in ZONE 16....here's a copy and paste from the 2008 "Exceptions to ZONE 16 Regulations" Severn River between Coopers Falls Road bridge, downstream to a line extending southerly across the river from the westerly limit of Lot 17, Conc. A, Morrison Twp. Fish sanctuary - no fishing from Mar. 1 - Fri. before 2nd Sat. in May.
  7. I talked to a buddy yesterday on Temagami and he said that they have stopped driving their vehicles on the ice as of Sunday, but were still using sleds and ATV's on the ice......PLAY SAFE!!
  8. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families for speedy recoveries!!
  9. Good advice misfish!!...I wouldn't head out anywhere anymore without a GPS...it's amazing how much they have come down in price these days....A couple of years back we had outboard motor problems here on the river and didn't get it back up and running until well after dark..We got home safe using the GPS..I can't even imagine what it would have been like trying to find our way back home in total darkness without it!!!
  10. We have a 57" rear projection Toshiba that we bought in 2002....we just had to replace some board due to an irritating zig-zag on the screen but it only cost us ~ $300 (that includes the part, labour and travel time to come out to the rural area we live in)...I figure that's not too bad given that this TV is 6 yrs old
  11. This is a GREAT thread!!!...I love seeing all these pics...here's some of my 2007 memories to share with you all... This was my PB Brookie caught in April My son came up to visit me on Father's Day and we spent the afternoon huntin' a couple of Muskies Here's a few pics of our annual trip up North to a buddies camp! 10 days of being in heaven My buddies camp and me pulling the bush "buggy" to get into some remote trout lakes We took off on the bikes from the camp to go huntin' for some Brookies...here's a shot of my buddy wanting to be first on the trail Crossing the river on the bikes The first "pit stop" of many on the way back to the camp A few fatties that day A nice bow caught on my buddies lake The color of meat on these rainbows were something else!! A "mountain" trout caught on my buddies lake and a GOOD sunburn on my legs Nice shot of the lake A few more muskie pics My PB Muskie caught Thanksgiving weekend We took advantage of Indian Summer Oct 22nd and biked into a small remote rainbow lake for a couple of days.. My PB walleye caught Nov 28th on Quinte Another Quinte eye caught that morning.. I sure HOPE 2008 is just as good!!!!!...bring on the soft water
  12. Thanks guys....I'll check it out....the 2 places I found are about 1hr past Mont Laurier. We'll most likely pick one of these and spend 1 day snowmobiling to Devil Mountain (Montagne du Diable)!!...the first one has big pike and walleye...trout is closed... http://www.club-fontbrune.qc.ca/eng/ice-fishing.htm The second one has walleye and brookies... http://mekoos.com/peche-a.html FISH-ON!!!!
  13. Very nice report....My wife and I will send a prayer for your friend!
  14. I just found a place 3 hrs north from here....chalet style cabins, ice huts, HOT TUB and the lake has Brookies and Walleye... My son, son-in-law and I have planned our 2nd annual ice fishing weekend for Jan 25 - 27th...I called the lodge yesterday and was advised that the lake is still open and they haven't put any ice huts out yet...they also said that they were not very optimistic with the ice conditions for the weekend that we booked if they go by the extended weather forecast We can't change the dates now because my son-in-law already bought his ticket to fly up here from Atlanta... Does anyone have any recommendations?? We are looking for a 2 bedroom cottage with a heated ice shack and originally were targeting Lakers, Whitefish and Walleye....We would really like to stay within a 3hr drive from Ottawa if possible.... Thanks, Steve
  15. One of the local lads out here decided to get his truck washed on New Year's eve...he was extremely lucky that he was only in 4' of water....the backhoe went in too They finally got both vehicles out at 8:00PM New Years day..... ...here's some pics The backhoe wasn't heavy enough to get the truck out, so they brought the BIG GUN in The weather is gonna warm up for the next few days....PLAY SAFE!!
  16. I did catch it from a pontoon yes....I was lying down on my stomach on the floor of the boat while removing the hooks from that girl while she was still in the water....what a lift that was

  18. Hi Folks, I joined OFC back in October, but haven't joined in on any topics or discussion...so just to start the New Year right, I'm sayin' hello and will do a short introduction... I live on the Ottawa River just North West of Ottawa...I target almost all species of fish, but my main species are Muskie and Trout...I caught 2 PB's in 2007 that I would like to share with you all..the first pic is a 54"x24" Muskie I caught last fall..the 2nd is a trophy Brookie caught last April Thanks to Greencoachdog for helping me with resizing the pics!!!
