  1. Well, I have to say that my initial thought was "I don't want to be a snitch -- I told them, they acted concerned and they read the sign...that's good enough". But after that, as I noticed them walking down the river (around the bend and out of view, so, watching for a couple extra minutes would have meant following them, which I thought would be akin to grabbing their worms and throwing them in the river), I started to wonder. I decided that the rules are the rules, but certainly not up to me to enforce, so I made the call. I ended up talking to a guy in the Soo, who took down all the info, ***and I made a point of telling him *** I didn't SEE these guys fishing with worms, just felt that I should report it, and I had NO PROOF that they were doing anything illegal***. I doubt very much that a CO was even sent over there, but, on the off chance that one happened to be in the area, maybe he/she(?) would have checked it out. And if those guys were caught using worms, they can't say they weren't warned or ignorant of the rules. so, I'm glad I called, because if I didn't, it would have bugged me all day long. I think everyone's input has been really insightful, btw, and pretty much everything you said went through my mind ('cept that bit about bashing in their nadz!). In the end, it was just a gut feeling that wouldn't go away.
  2. Okay here's the situation: I was fishing for trout on a stream that is a no-kill, no-keep, no organic bait, single-barbless hook zone. Not only is it in the regs, but, there's a nice big sign that spells it out for you posted right at the creek. Couple of guys walk by, rod in one hand, box of worms in the other. I asked them how they're doing, and mention that worms are not allowed on this section of river( I also mentioned the single barbless hook reg as wel). They seemed to be genuinely surprised, and concerned as well. I pointed out the sign that was 20 feet away...they went and read it, and, I jokingly said "it would be pretty bad if you got busted 20 feet from the sign -- have a good one". I also happened to be leaving at that moment, so, away I walked to the truck. I happened to notice that the two guys continued down the river. As I drove away, I wondered to myself whether or not I should call the MNR tips line. I mean, it was clear that they were now aware of the regs. But on the other hand, they may have been aware in the first place, and didn't care anyway. What would YOU do? Leave it at that, or leave it in the hands of the MNR? Is it worth calling in? 3. beauty brookie!
  4. roger that!
  5. WAS gonna hit the upper Credit, but, not sure now with the forecast. Playin' it by ear....
  6. There should be a tag on the boat somewhere telling you what the max hp allowable is. My 12 footer says it is rated for 15hp, which I'm pretty sure would be wayyyy too much. I currently have an 8hp on it, and when I'm by myself in the boat, it is perfect...got it trimmed up nice, and she hoots right along without bouncing. As soon as another adult is in the boat, speed and plane are cut DRASTICALLY. If I was always by myself, I'd stick with the 8, but if I was more likely to have a partner along, I would go for th 9.9 Just my $0.02
  7. Obviously there were a few lapses in judgement, but regardless, the point of wallyboss' story appears to be "make sure you're properly certified". Definitely a good point.
  8. For non-fly fisherpeople....would bottom bouncing be recommended in here with egg flies, or are we better off to sink some lead under a float? Also curious if there is any decent shore access below the whirlpool...I got down there a few years ago and was relatively successul bottom bouncing eggs.
  9. I love reading all the posts....fun to get a window into someone else's bb environment
  10. May 22nd - 27th we are taking the tin boat across Temagami with the canoe in tow, and camping near Kokoko Lake. We will fish Kokoko, and a couple of the smaller lakes surrounding it, for pike, walleye and hopefully some brookies and lakers. And of course, we'll do a bit of fishing on Temagami. My first week off in a couple years...I'm already losing sleep over it!
  11. If you are just car camping, the Canadian Tire stuff is pretty darn good. You get a nice sized tent that you can stand up in, won't run you more than $200, and not too heavy. (10lbs or so) I have a larger one like that for "drive-in" camping, and a lighter, slightly smaller one for canoe trips where weight and space are issues. Just my $0.02...hope it helps.
  12. Phew! I forgot the tourney start-date...I felt bad for not bringing up my logo and measuring tape last week! Of course, that explains why I caught anything It'll be lakers for the next couple weeks, then pike and walleye join the mix as soon as May long weekend hits. Lookin' for some biggies from that little lake that Wayne is on...
  13. That is the way to do it!! Way to go
  14. oh dear. Have you lived in Hamilton very long, Lad?
  15. I've been dying to hit one of my fave ice fishing lakes for some shallow lake trout action once the ice is gone. In the past couple years I've been out there in freezing rain and sleet, or if the weather was nice I was still paddling around ice sheets....maybe this year I would finally get the timing right. Sunny day, no ice....but no shallow fish. Good think I brought the heavy jigs, cause I pulled this guy up from about 40 feet! Yesssss
  16. Hey if you wanna hit the upper Credit with me on Friday morning -afternoon , I'll go with ya! Small fish, but very pretty and usually willing to bite.
  17. Hmmm....Lewiston, eh??? That could be worth the drive!
  18. check and double-check! Leeches are off the list, and black bucktails are on the list! I wonder if a nice feathery black bucktail looks like a leech down there...hmmm....either way...I know what I'm buyin' in the next couple weeks.
  19. Laker in 6 FOW ...not bad! I was in the area on the weekend and had to go right to the bottom to get mine. I haven't uploaded my laker pic 'cuz the connection at home was no good...where's the pic of your dad's fish?!
  20. wow...great report! The g/f is from Halifax, and constantly telling me that we gotta get out there...now I just might start to take her seriously
  21. really excellent feedback...that is exactly what I need. Thanks guys! The old-timer listing the trailer in question said that it was his dad's, and needed to get rid of it. He himself might be getting rid of his own, as he doesn't get out much either...so maybe, just MAYBE I can play trailer inspector soon!
  22. I am going to be lurking near Kokoko Lake and surrounding smaller lakes from May 22nd-27th -- can't wait! Sorry Wayne, not going by your place though...too long of a trip by water with the little sardine can towing the canoe (and all of Jessy's beer), so we are jumping in off the main access road (with a jus of water in the truck for when I get back). And I will be accessing Kokoko via the bay behind Devil's point...so I can stay out of kokoko bay altogether. I'm all ears on these walleye tips....to those who like a little "meat" on your jig...do you use worms as early as the end of May? I always thought minnows were the preferred choice for early season walleye...but then there's leeches...hmmm?
  23. Well so far, it's about half the price of picking one up from Crappy Tire brand new..but for now it doesn't matter, as I just found out that the unit in question is sold. Thanks for the input anyway, guys
  24. Was just starting to think that maybe I should look around for a second hand boat trailer for my little 14 foot aluminum, but I have no idea what a good deal would be. As luck would have it, I noticed one in the local paper's classifieds today, good for a boat just my size! The guys is asking $495. Obviously I have to see it and make sure it's not about to fall apart, but, what I'm asking is, does this sound like a good deal for a trailer in good shape? Thought, comments are appreciated.
  25. b-ganoush -- u gotta post more --- I am cracking up watching your avatar! PS..keep the creek/river reports coming
