speed over temp ???? both are important but I think temp is More important . IT DONT matter how fast or slow you troll if you troll out of temp zone . TEMP is one of the most impotant things to know if you want to find fish .

I keep reading its all what your used too etc. lol ITs fishing it should be what WORKS THE BEST AT putting fish into the live well ??? Maybe not if you just fish to relax and enjoy the time out doors BUT if your in a tourament etc.its what is the best way to get bit and when your switching hands the bait is out of your control , any time the bait is not in your control you dont have any idea whats going on . I see people pay 200 300 dollars for a rod so they can feel whats going on at the bait and than at the most important time they are changeing hands ??? Do what FEELS right if ya want but if ya want fish do what catchs then the best even it it takes awile to get it right . Dont see golfers say I know I hold the club wrong and I cant hit the ball well but it FEELS right . just my 1/2 a cent based on 25 years of teaching bass fishing to people when IM guideing .Seams funny when the is fishing a sport thread came up no one mentioned that most people Fish with no instruction they just pick it up and start playing spend 100's if not 1000's on equipment they get no instruction on (dont want to speak about the electronics I see in some guys boats and how they dont have a clue on how to use them more than just the basics , ) This is where clubs like muskies canada etc. come in and attending seminars etc. so much to learn these days so much good stuff to use , if you want to become a succesfull angler learn learn and than read somemore . Ive probably said more than I should so im out of here before the shouting starts .

I got two 6501's for the sale price of 74.99 . These were the last two reels they had (they didnt have any righties ) thats why I bought them I had gone in to get the hut and came out with the auger in stead and when I saw the sign in the reel case I grabbed the two reels allso lol NO hut tho they didnt have any left lol Was wierd tho I had to have the manager walk the reels up to the cash ??? dont know why this , they let me carry the 265 dollar auger but not the reels , never bought a reel from CTC before the guy said this was store policy or something wierd????

My New truck almost swam with the whitefish ... ALMOST
capt bruce replied to cityfisher's topic in General Discussion
I have been driveing trucks out onto the ice for 30+ years Went thu only twice in that time . Once on simcoe like you and only the back of the truck went down , once on sucgog where the whole truck sunk but we were close to shore and only in 3 feet of water . Both times the truck was rescued and after minor repairs no worse for wear . I have allways made sure condishions were right and just put this down to as headhunter said BAD LUCK . S**8 happens you can slip in the shower a women I work with fell into the stairs on the street car going home one night and broke her neck and did some brain damage , she is parilized on one side and will never work again ???? I agree driving on ice too thin etc. is not smart but when condishions are good and trucks are plowing out ice roads you will find me out there . -
IM RIGHT handed , so I cast with my right arm ,my stronger arm so I reel with my left hand . I have had people in the boat doing the change hands every cast thing and laught when they cant seam to hook up with a fish and I allready have got a few . Most of the hits come when the bait firsts falls , when IM setting the hook the other guy is changeing hands and didnt even know he was bit lol . Watch the bass masters or any pro and you will not see this hand changeing thing so I think your poll may not really reflect whats the most effective way to use a rod and reel just the misstakes people who have never had a lesson have developed by just trial and erreor .Would recomend to anyone who wants to improve their sussess rate to take a few lessons from a pro.

Lake Nippissing, Rice, or Stoney Lake?
capt bruce replied to sbtennant's topic in General Discussion
The wife and kids will enjoy southview . I used to take the wife and kids there 2 or 3 times a summer when the kids were small . The drive was not too long and the place has swiming , play grouds , bike rideing , and these great fishing piers that they keep lighted all night and you and the kids can fish for crappies and pan fish nonstop from them without even takeing out a boat (had some of the best crappie fishing Ive ever had one weekend in june from off these piers at night ). And when you do go out in a boat theres great walleye and muskie fishing nearby . And for the wife theres country shopping in the peterboro area close by . Not a wilderness adventure for sure but to go away for a weekend or week with wife and kids its a great place well cared for and the owners are great people who go out of their way to ensure everything is a ok with your visit. We stayed at a lot of spots on rice when the kids were small because of the short drive and great fishing , nothing like a 5 hour trip of are we there yet to spoil a kids fun weekend, and found ourselves goig back to southview as it had all we wanted and it was at the east end of the lake so it was the closest to TO . -

Lures attract fisherpeople.. not fish
capt bruce replied to irishfield's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the great chance to put some of my pet theories to the test. I believe that colors are very important to turn on inactive fish , active fish are easy to fool (or should I sat easier) and I have proven it many times on the charter boat when the bite was good I would cut a spoon shape from a beer can punch a hole at either end and with a split ring , a swivel and a hook put it down on the rigger and it would catch as many as any high priced NK (got me a few nice tips doing this , would tell about the old native guide that taught me how to cut the special shape lol) but when the bite was slow I would spend hours at the back of the boat changeing up colors and sizes , trolling speads etc. to get a few in the box . -
after 25 I got a watch , I had a watch , now the rod and real looks good BUT If i had to choose I would pick a present for the wife and use the brownie points such a choise would bring and go to the sportsman show and BUY LOTS AND LOTS with the wifes blessing lol . Funny how the time flies in 1972 I just finshed school and was gonna work for the summer and than seak my fortune , its now 2008 aqnd Im still at my same summer job ???? 36 years , Good luck Muskiestudd I think we are the last generation that will have guys like us with 25+ years in the same company.

great offer and maybe we can learn a little from this , Im late but if theres still room im in .. -
keep the rod you got and maybe upgrade the reel to something a little lighter , Shoal lake is a great place for pike , Ontario Out of Doors Magazine rated Shoal Lake as the number 1 drive to northern pike lake in Ontario. The lodge is first rate and I know theres lots of Kesagami fans here (also a great place ) but if I had the choice I would go back to Shoal before kesagami , but booth are great trips . imho

kayak fishing tournament in Southern Ontario
capt bruce replied to NAC's topic in General Discussion
IM like Terry , my salmon boat has twin 440 chyslers not paddles lol . BUT I looked around and found this "http://www.wavewalk.com/?gclid=CILs8-fP9pECFQZ6IgodxlXboA " would be a blast haveing a high teens or twenty pound fish pull you around and getting it into the net would be crazy , I ve done crazy before , you might get me interested in a boat like the one in the link .. lol Never thought of fishing from a kayak or canoe in less you had no choice , but it looks like it could be funn -
He was a great guy loved to jam even after he got semi famous he still stopped over and would play into the weee hours my son would hit him up for a lesson or two on how to get those huge bends. I even got him out in the boat a few times salmon fishing great guy he will be missed .

Think nateral selection will allow the agessive ones to to survive, UNnateral fishing nets dont allow this to occurr

Early in the season like that we have good success trolling with lake trols ( a long piece of wire with 3-4 blades on it and a 6 inch leader threaded with a needle thru a minow and than a small treble ) if you dont like sticking darning needle thru minows some guys use small minnow cranks in stead of the minnow or some of the new plastics, cleos or spinners also work . After ice out fish will be in the top 2-15 feet most days , had lots of luck near beaver houses as the winter food supply stored up for the winter is shelter to lots of minnows in the spring

Im with you Irish , As i said I dont have any time to do important things like fishing never mind saveing the country lol I fallowed this Gerry Hart guys cases from out west a long time ago and he allways won where to the point at his last case revenue canada was told by the appeals court it would be found in contempt if it charged him again but who has time money and the where withall to see something like this thu , cost more than the taxes I pay I bet and even worse I dont think the wife would let me lol No offence Mittzu as I know there is lots of truth in what you say and maybe if more people did know more about guys like Gerry Hart we could get something done about this GST bull they stuck us with but like whats been said by others its TAXES and DEATH with hopefully a 50" muskie or two for most of us ....

Poppy tea . my dear old grand ma had a backyard garden full of poppys , she would dry out the seed pods and at the first sign of a cold she would take three or so of these dryed pods and grid them up fine and steep into a tea (if you dont have any poppies in your garden the dryed pods can be bought at most dry flower suppiers ). Add lots of suger it tasted horrid if I remember but that was the end of any cold . Or maybe I just dreamed this lol
-
Do a google search on Gerry Hart , last I looked revenue canada had taken him to court 22 or so times and lost every time ,he pays no taxes . I wish I had his convictions and time to spend my life fighting , I pay large large taxes .

This is the reason slot sizes work rather than just a minium length .
