  1. The only thing with a split bolt is after you ruse rubber tape to fill in the voids and then electrical tape there is no way to re-tighten without taking it all apart and it does get messy. I have used hundreds of these to connect electrical services - since then the industry has moved away from these to an in-line crimp connection. Personally - I would recommend two methods. Re-terminate the two conductors with cable lugs (with the same hole opening) and then bolt them together and use heat shrink tube over the entire connection, or my personal choice would be a multi-tap connector (two barrel) and terminate both conductors.   4. We are one and the same. I paid cash for the boat as well, I am not one to finance toys. I do think that there will be a healthy used boat market in the next 2-3 years.

  10. David, Thanks for the information but I decided on the Nav + card. I bought directly from Navionics as they have a $50USD rebate going on until the end of the year. Not to be that guy..........but I do not shop at Bass Pro unless it is a last resort.
  11. I am using the Nikon 70-200 VR-1 F2.8 and a 1.7 tele converter and I find the quality to be quite good........would love a 300mm f2.8 but then who would not - LOL.

  13. I checked and yes, you can pre-order a Tesla Cybertruck for $150 😆 I think I put more down when I ordered a new MacBook Pro for my daughter. I bet they kept that price so low because when they finally tell you what the cost will be for the truck 80% of the people will back out of the deal and ask for their deposit.......errr....$150 back. In all seriousness there are some great EV's out there but I just do not think they will displace pickups or SUV's as our primary vehicle in the near future. Electric boats.....not in the foreseeable future and electric planes not until another battery technology becomes affordable. I would not get in a plane that has a 30min range and a 30min reserve 🤔
  14. Tesla has not confirmed the pricing yet. I am not sure but I would think that a $69,000 grocery getter is definitely a status symbol. Would you would not drive it to go Moose Hunting in Thunder Bay........then it is a grocery getter.

  16. Been in a Tesla S.......pretty cool car. Not saying EV's cannot be fun but unpractical as your main vehicle. They are a wealthy family status grocery getter.
  17. I am in need of assistance in spending my hard earned money - LOL. Since I have zero confidence of there being any equipment when it comes time to put the boat in the water I am buying everything I need to outfit my boat over the winter - as I find it. I'm in the process of outfitting my new fishing boat and I want to get some trolling rods. I just bought a 2017 Renegade 168DC and it has two 3 foot Cannon rails down both gunnels. On this rail I am mounting 4 x Scotty Power Lock rod holders using the Scotty 340 track adapters. I presently have one dipsey rod set up - 9' MH rod with a Diawa AccuDepth 27LCB reel. I am looking at running planer boards on Erie - so I am also looking for advice on these as well. But right now I want to know what you are using for trolling rods on Erie? I did buy another two Diawa AccuDepth 27LCB reels but I am not sure what rods I should get - some guys say medium and others say MH. Whatever I get I would like to use the same rods on my planer boards and my downriggers when I get a pair of them - can that even be done?? Do you guys have any ideas or suggestions on this so far? Thanks in advance.
  18. In theory yes........but in order to power this high performance electric motor how many lead acid batteries would you need? Probably enough to sink your boat twice over. In all honesty you would never use lead acid batteries for this application (boat/car/plane) due to the weight and performance limitation of this technology. You can go to a lithium ion battery that would cost you about 5 times that of a lead acid battery but that would put you at market disadvantage as your boat would be 2x or 3x that of a standard 4 stroke. Yes, there are people that would spend $150k for an electric fishing boat that they could buy for $50k just like there are people that would spend $80-$100k for a Tesla vs a standard car. So now the discussion becomes are people buying these as status symbols or because you are saving the planet? How are you towing this boat? I sure hope you are towing with a Tesla pickup.
  19. I'm gonna steal a post I made on another site for this. This is a feel food story. Read the story and you will find that the plane only has a 30min flight time with a 30 min reserve. A standard Beaver with a radial engine can haul 2,000lbs and has a range of 550 Nautical Miles (Max is 608 Nautical Miles). That is a far cry from 30min of flight time. They do the same thing with the electric vehicles.......... People need to separate the feel good (emotional), and practicality of green energy and EV's. Companies have agenda's with EV's - Electrical OEM's support this technology because they want to expand their traditional electrical market and sell the EV Chargers. Knowing this will add additional burden to your electrical infrastructure they are more than willing to sell you new electrical equipment or to facilitate your upgrade and this is where they have an opportunity to make Millions. They are NOT doing this to be good corporate citizens, they are doing this because they have a horse in the race. Look at all the executives posing by the car and charging station like they are about to do something amazing. What they are not telling you is that they used two Mitsubishi iMiEV's and a flatbed truck with a generator. They drove one EV and someone drove the truck with the other car on the back. When the first EV was getting low they swapped the cars and as they drive they ran the generator on the back of the truck to charge the other EV. So for this PR stunt they essentially ran a flatbed truck and a generator across Canada.......would love to see the carbon foot print on this one - LOL. Another thing no one talks about is PEV/PHEV's are not for the average person. Look at the price of the cars- they are status symbols. They are designed for people that live in a suburban neighborhoods with a driveway that can afford the car, EV charger and have the infrastructure to operate it. How can people that rely on street parking, people in apartments/condo's charge their cars overnight if they do not have a dedicated EVSE to plug into at the end of each day?
  20. As with electric cars the only limitation is the infrastructure to support this technology. I could not find any specs on the battery capacity but I would assume it would be close to that of a small/midsize EV). A level 2 EVSE operates at 7.2kW @ 240V and takes approximately 8-15hrs to fully charge a battery of a PEV (plug in electric vehicle) or PHEV (plug in hybrid electric vehicle). This does not make much sense to put Leve 2 charging stations at marinas unless you are leaving your boat there overnight. Now if you want a fast charge 20-45min charge you can install a Level 3 ESVE. Level 3 ESVE's are very expensive to buy and provide the infrastructure to operate. A level 3 EVSE are in the $40,000 - $60,000 range and will require 600V input (@ +/- 200A) per charging station. That is close to the size of most marina's main service - if they can even get 600V. Plus the EVSE's will need to be GFI protected due to the proximity of the water. I would not expect to see these are marinas any time soon.
  21. Hi guys, I am in the market for a new nav card for my new boat/plotter. In my old boat I had a Hummingbird Helix 5 Si GPS with the Lake Master chip and it worked well for my needs. My new boat has the Lowrance HDS-7 Gen 2 and the Insight card. The Insight card is not the greatest for the lakes I fish up north so I will be upgrading it. I dominantly fish Ontario, Erie, St.Clair, Detroit River, and several smaller lakes in northern Ontario. My choices are between the Navionics + card (Canada & Alaska) $149.00USD, or the Navionics Hotmaps Platinum (Canada) $199.00USD. Both cards qualify for a $50USD rebate until Dec 31. My question is...........is the Hotmaps Premium worth it? The difference between the cards is: - Satellite overlay (not available in Ontario) - Relief shading - ?? Usable ?? - Sonar chart relief - ?? usable ?? - 3D view - useless feature IMHO - Panamera photo's - useless feature IMHO

  24. I was thinking about upgrading the 40Hp Merc EFI on my Sylvan Explorer 1600 and found Dundas Marine had some new 60Hp Etec's......and a couple of 75Hp as well. I prices up a new 75Hp and by the time I swapped the controls and installed the motor it would cost me about $12k. I do not know what the value of a lightly used mint 40Hp EFI but I decided to just buy a new boat all together. I bought a mint 2017 Renegade with a 90Hp Etec and sold my Explorer 1600. Just do not see the value in swapping motors unless you LOVE your existing boat.
  25. LOL......how are you keeping buddy? How is work doing? I really missed my early season runs on the Detroit River and St.Clair. I upgraded my boat this spring and picked up a Starcraft Renegade with a 90Hp Etec. I'm hoping things will open up again this spring.
