Middle of the afternoon on a hot day in mid-summer I see all kinds of big ole carp swimming on the surface here in town. I doubt they're all sick. Might be they just wanna tan. JF

Out on the water men rule. Isn't that how it goes??????? I'll ask my wife. She's very honest about this stuff. Hang on while I run upstairs. OK. I asked.............. She hit me. What's that about??? JF

If it only takes a swipe of a towel to dry it up, why fix??? Rememebr the KISS principle. JF

Sorry I couldn't make it as I'd told Ryan I would, but business stuff got in the way. Believe me, I'd much rather have been emptying beer bottles and scarfing back Subs with y'all than doin' what I wuz doin'. Mebbe next time. And Ryan, don't get too far out on the bay. Ya never know when nature will call and you'll have to make a kwik trip to the baby doc. All the best with that. JF

NF--- Britain's Got Talent does it again!
JohnF replied to bigfish1965's topic in General Discussion
All in my family are blessed with a good ear for music. It makes us a pita to have around when folks go off on spontaneous bursts of musical enthusiasm cuz we're critical buttheads. She nails the notes, and can do it a capella which is really hard. Of course I haven't been able to produce the sounds my ear likes for years. My pore old vocal chords are hardened from years of scotch, pipe and cigar smoke, but fortunately they don't affect the hearing. She really does have a nice voice, good range, and a great ear. She could be the next unseen singing star a la the young Chinese girl at the olympics ...or..... she could be the next great character player in movie and stage musicals. I hope she gets a break. She seems like a nice person. I'm glad she's at least getting her kicks for now. JF -

Perhaps, but at least she got her 15 minutes of fame. Now it's up to her what she does with it. If she has the will & the personality to match the talent she might ride it for a while. Ya gotta love rags to riches stories. JF -
Contrary to what Dave Mercer says, that's why we buy big minnow buckets. You need some kitten hotties to turn on the bait. JF

You'll have to pick it up. I can't afford a ball for my hitch. JF

Don't the neutered ones kick as hard under water? .... not that I blame them..... JF

I knew you were a good guy. Is a 21' Ranger with a 225 okay? JF

Well, what a relief to finally find someone here with the milk of human kindness in their hearts. These other hardhearted animals just drag the little furry critters along the surface, the poor hairy little guys gasping and fighting for a breath, no remorse, no compunctions at all. You are my kinda man .. keep the suffering out of sight. JF

Will it be a real boat when it grows up??? Actually, it beats the pants off my boat (there isn't one) but I remember the days of having a 5 1/2 horse Johnson (burgubdy coloured) & a little plywood flat bottom on the river beside my folks' place when I was growing up. It took me years to get used to not being able to just run down to the dock and head up the river whenever the spirit moved me. I really really wanna boat again, dammit. JF

That would definitely not be politically correct. JF

They didn't look up. JF

I've heard that if you use pitbull puppies you don't even need a hook, let alone worry about the set. Just work the bait close to a musky and the bait does all the work after that. Good idea to have a stretcher handy to rescue the musky from the bait after you land 'em. JF

Those gloves look familiar. Does this new hybrid OFNer go by the moniker Irishpaddler or Solofield? JF

Doesn't the live bait start to stink up the tackle box at some point? JF

Oh, and he may be the only person who hasn't been in church in 30 years or so who's played on 100 Huntley St. JF -

Not Santana. But if you've ever watched Hockey Night in Canada you've heard his guitar. Or the Olympics. JF -
Sorry to burst yer bubble, my friend, but you will learn that there are all kinds of lines drawn in our society. Perhaps (hopefully) your generation will be the one to wipe them out and bring about the world we idealized in the 60's and 70's, the one all about flower power, peace and love. I don't mean that to sound particularly profound, or naive. It's just that throughout my life I've constantly run into real and imagined boundaries and lines my friends and I are not to cross, that divide Canucks from other Canucks, or Canucks from Americans, etc. The funny (and I use the word loosely) thing is that when we're able to forget the boundaries of race, class and income we all have a lot more fun. Despite that it seems that just when I start to thinking I've transcended all those lousy boundaries I discover that I'm still a closet bigot in some subtle or peculiar way. I see major improvements in my son over me in that respect so I hope it means that for all the big talk from us old farts, you young guns are getting it righter (more right?). JF

The problem is that homely talented people are a dime a dozen, as cruel as that sounds. If one doesn't have the looks, they better have huge stage presence and a great sense of humour. The lady on the clip might possibly have enough of a schtick to get a shot. I have no idea of the stats but for every person who makes it to the big time there are hundreds if not thousands with even more talent who never make it. If you heard my brother playing guitar you'd wonder why you'd never heard of him. Fact is every one of you has probably heard him playing at some time in your lives, but I'll bet not one of you know who he is. His problem is that he looks too much like me, only skinny. The entertainment world is a hard cruel place to play. JF -
Hey! That's not a bad idea. As long as the LEO's are just cruising around establishing a visual presence, clocking speeders, and burning gas, why not pick up a little gas money from folks needing a ride? JF
