  1. I don't know about you guys... but 350 for six hours.... that's a bit steep. I personally am going down on Saturday for two glourious weeks of Florida fun.... but I elected not to fish bass. I am going sea fishing on a big charter for 60 bucks for an eight hour tour. With the Space Shuttle launch, the Daytona 500, Universal Studios, and a few afternoons tagging along to the shopping malls... Basspro.... well the thoughts that I need to fish bass... I think I can wait till spring. I must say though that I worked hard to find a deal on bassin in Florida... they are non-existent. I did however through some of my other channels find a couple of offers of people willing to take me out for an evening fish and if things work out I just might do this... and fill their tanks up for the favor. Sorry but for the amount of bite going on in February in Florida.... and twenty bucks a dozen for boring shiner fishing.... 350 bucks just is way over the top. But for those who go... I hope you catch a whopper. I will post my results.
  2. I too was up before the birds on Sunday I was heading out to a new spot on the Ottawa river. I unloaded the snowmachine... attached the clam to the back and off I went. It was dark and this being a new spot and knowing I had to cross a bit of current... I elected to stop half-way there near some huts and fish there until sunup Well I unbuckled the Jiffy... pull pull... check the choke.... pull pull Long story short.... my old reliable that has never let me down Jiffy choose that day to throw a spring off of the idler arm or somthing like that. I tried to re-rig it but with freezing fingers and tiny springs.... I gave up an hour later.... jumped on the snowmachine and headed back to the truck. What was supposed to be a great mild day on the ice... turned in to a warm nap on the couch and some wings and Superbowl later on. I will be taking the Jiffy to the doctor tomorrow.
  3. Let us know how you make out on the big Lake. We will hook up soon Seaweed
  4. Thanks for the tips everyone I would love to get a 10 pounder bass but at 300 for six hours.....???? I think we will try the pier fishing and the princess group fishing.
  5. Hooking up with you guys to try those big lakes like Rice and Simcoe would be a blast. I will let you know if I am ever up to see my little sis in Alcona or my son in Belleville.
  6. Hi The wife and I are going to the Daytona 500 this year... a dream come true for this long time Nascar fan. I was hoping to get some fishing in down there too. Anyone have a great suggestions? Thanks in advance
  7. I just got my sled...wow talk about being able to hit spots you only dreamed of. I was all over Petrie on the Ottawa River today. Mobility is key to getting to the spots that are not overfished for sure. Managed a few nice sized eyes.
  8. Hummingbird has done their homework and the product looks good... but it is unproven and still lacks some features that other sonars have. The Marcum LX-5 is still the top sonar... don't kid yourself.
  9. I am not sure what the intention of this poll is? But I would say that there will be a lot more people drown because they didn't wear a life jacket then there will be people who go through the ice. Generally it isn't the inexperienced angler who ventures forth on the ice that gets into trouble. It is usually the person who thinks that they know exactly when and where the ice is safe who runs into situations where they could possibly face an icy grave. On another note... anyone who lives in a place where the temperature doesn't go low enough to warrant ice forming on water shouldn't be worried about all us crazy Canucks that have to deal with the ice... but that is just a personal thought.
  10. Many Quebec lakes no longer allow ice fishing... so a start would be to check the regs and narrow down where you can go... then I would suggest using Google.
  11. Well I got Friday afternoon off after working a bunch of overtime this week. It was welcomed with the rain called for the rest of the weekend. A relative of mine was visiting from England and loves fishing so I wanted to get him out on the water and try for some of the big ole bass I have been finding lately. We got a late start after having to hunt down a non-resident license for him and a stop at a sandwich shop for some on the water lunch. We finally got launched and fishing by 11:30. The water was still warming and the bite wasn't on for the first few hours. Finally found some hungry fish on some mid-lake rice spots. They were tight to the rice and ambushed spinnerbaits. Here are some of the small fish we caught Average Largie Medium Largie My relative finally scores a hit... his first largemouth... a happy man for sure. The boys back home will never hear the end of it at his local pub. Nice Largie Towards the end of our day... I was rewarded with another beauty fish. Man catching these big ole girls never grows old... what a fight. I can't wait to get back here in late October when they start fattening up... it should be outstanding! Boss Hog Daddy Here are some shots again of the weird concave forhead on these big fish. I have never seen anything like this... strange. Bass Dent Bass Dent
  12. Ottawa area ... if anyone is interested.
  13. Got out with a buddy to a nice fall spot ... same bait, same result... only better. Gotta love it when a pattern comes together. Big Bigger Biggest Buddy's PB Bass No scale on board ..... so I have no idea what they weighed but overall I think we boated a decent 18lb bag for the day... didn't even bother takin shots of the little guys.
  14. I am totally amazed my your report on the Nippissing Largies. I have been fishing the West Arm area of Nippissing for many years and have done well with walleye, muskie, pike and smallies but I have been stumped every year looking for largies. I had almost given up hope of finding any Largies up there but now that I know they are around I will redouble my efforts next time to find them. Congrats
  15. Enjoyed a near perfect day on the Ottawa river on Sunday. The weather was stellar with just a few scattered and brief showers. The fishing was not bad either. Topwater action was hot for bass. We boated a few small largemouth and a couple of nice pike. Here are a few shots ... Snake (Muskie or Pike?) Largie

  17. Nice report WVMedic There must have been something going on there this year... my wife out-fished me too. Slow Death Walleye My wife's Walleye Sorry I didn't take the time to come over and get more aquainted but we were really swamped with guests and chores. Glad to see the fishing went well.
  18. Just got home from up that way. We got five good days up there without rain. The rain started yesterday and is expected to carry on for a few days so we headed home a bit early. Ran into WVmedic and said hello. Overall the bite was slow. We managed to catch a few walleye and a buddy of mine got in to some smallies drop-shotting some rocky points. The water level was amazingly high. I guess that would help explain the slow bite. Good luck and looking forward to your report.
  19. We will see you up there WVMedic. I am leaving Ottawa today... for the West Arm. Going to enjoy a week of paradise in one of my favorite little fishing holes in Ontario. Can't wait.... could hardly sleep. Hope I don't forget the boat. A nice report should be coming next week.
  20. Beauty fish for sure... They are truely magnificent at that size.
  21. Ok here we go. I'm 5 foot 10 and weigh 316 What does this one weigh then? I can assure you that it wasn't a fiver. Photos can be very deceiving.
  22. Your buddy needs to check the scales. That fish is not even a six pounder. Can we see the results from the tournament?
  23. I can't say enough good things about Deka deep cycle batteries. Take that one you are having trouble with back and they will swap it for new. Best battery bar none out there for life cycle. I run a 24 volt system with a Motorguide 67 Brute with two Deka 31 batteries in my Nitro. I take it to Nippissing every year. It runs all week without charge. Now I'm not tournament fishing by any means during that week but I was floored the first time I got the whole week out of the batteries.... I couldn't believe it but it happened and has year after year. When I fish tournaments I charge every day but I bet I could get two days out of them easily. Just my 2 cents worth.
  24. Still have to find a partner Johnny. Any of you folk get up this way drop me a line and we can get out on the river for what ever species you want to try for. A OFC gathering in this neck of the woods might be interesting someday... tons on great fishing.
