  1. HAHA! That's hilarious! .....hey shouldn't you be working?
  2. What a great analogy. There will be believers and non-believers. Some will change there mind some never will. Smog days, milder winters, less snow, shrinking polar ice caps...I don't need any more convincing.
  3. Call CAA on Centennial Pkwy. I know they do it. Not sure if it's same day.
  4. Congratulations and good luck Gerritt! I've also had assistance from Joe and he knows the industry very well. Offered me some excellent advice. HG
  5. While at BPS on Sunday, I was approached by a salesman regarding vacation packages that are endorsed by BPS and somehow affiliated with the owner's lodge Big Cedar Lodge in Missouri. The deal they offer is $59 for 3 days/2 nights in one of 18 destinations including Shenandoah, VA, Fort Lauderdale, FL and several others. I am very skeptical by nature, but sometimes that skepticism can result in missed opportunities. Anyone have any experience good or bad? Feel free to PM me if you would rather not post to this thread. Thanks, HG
  6. I was like a kid in a candy store. Boy this place is massive. I could have spent the whole day in there. Last week I realized, at the age of 37, I have yet to ever by myself a rod or reel. All my previous gear were Christmas or Birthday gifts. After some great feedback on trolling equipment on a previous thread, I opted for the Shimano TDR. I wanted an 8'6" MH action but they had none so settled for an 8 footer. I also bought a Daiwa Sealine 49LCA and it matches up great with the rod. Can't wait to try them. It was nice to spend a little money on myself for a change. Picked up a can of Uncle Buck's mix. Love Fish Crisp but it will be nice to try something a little different. Got a couple of deals on some body baits as well. I lucked out as my timing coincided with a seminar by Dave Mercer. Had some very good tips that can be used regardless of where you fish and what your fishing for. Gear recommendations, techniques etc.
  7. First of all I want to thak everyone for your input, whether you suggested it was OK or whether you did not recommend using either of the vehicles I currently have. Your suggestions will all be taken into consideration. For those of you in disgreement with one another, I hope you respect the information being provided by the others even though it may contradict your opinion. Safety will be priority. I am not willing to jeopardize my safety, the safety of my family or others on the road. The previous owner of my boat and trailer towed it with a 4 cylinder Acura Integra with no incidents. Does not mean it is absolutely safe. He did know not to speed and leave plenty of room for braking. Most of my trips will be under 1 city block as I live about 100 meters from the lauch at Fifty Point. 3 or 4 times a year may launch out of Crystal Beach or Port Colborne. Ironically, my wife now tells me she wants to get rid of the Saturn Ion she's owned for 3 weeks. Almost resulted in a Domestic. HG
  8. I have neer been a smoker and have a hard time comprehending addiction (except for fishing of course) although I have been surrounded by it all my life. What really drives me nuts is when someone who is trying to quit is being pursuaded by others to take up the habit again. I just don't understand it. This is in no way a response to your comment GCD...I think you were just joking. It just reminded me of instances I've witnessed. I have a great deal of respect for those who are able to overcome their demons whether it be smoking, drinking or otherwise. Don't give up now otherwise all your efforts will have been awaste. Good Luck CamillJ.
  9. Three months is not significant but more than likely the electrolyte (lead acid) was low before then and hence low when you started charging it. You can bet the electrolyte has sulfated and adhered to the plates. Now that you've refilled it, once it reaches full charge, do a load test on it (connect your trolling motor). If you have a voltmeter, monitor the voltage under load and see how quickly it drops. A fully charged battery should measure just under 13 volts and about 12.0 volts when fully disharged. My employer recently invested in some interesting technology that provides a pulse to sulfated batteries and over the course of several days or weeks, can recover bad batteries by reversing the sulfation. I used this on my marine battery that was rated at 450cca. Prior to pulsing it, I tested it and measured 250cca. After 3 days under pulse, it increased to 435cca.
  10. Thanks Nel. I just got it 2 weeks ago and intend to follow up on recalls. Most likely it will be used to tow within 100kms about a dozen times each year and hopefully at least one longer trip (300-500kms). Thanks to everyone else for your opinions. Now I just have to make a decision. My friends say I'm indecisive, but I'm not so sure.
  11. I recently sold my wife's Ford Windstar (thank god). We've replaced it with a more economical vehicle, a 2003 Saturn Ion 5 speed (130hp). My vehicle is a 2000 Saturn SL1 automatic. (115hp) I own a 14' Lund Rebel with a 15hp Yamaha. The boat wieght (I think) is 650lbs. The motor is 115lbs. I'm not sure about the trailer. I've checked the towing capacity of both vehicles and they are rated at 1000lbs. My wife would prefer (translates to insists) on not having a hitch on her car. Any opinions?
  12. Sounds to me like the only solution then is to buy a Shimano TDR and a Okuma reel for salmon on Lake O and an Ugly Stick with a Daiwa Sealine for walleye on Erie. See there's always a solution. Now where did I put my credit card?
  13. When I started this thread, I did have my mind set on an Ugly Stick but three nods for the Shimano TDR have got me reconsidereing. Any other opinions?
  14. I'm finally in a position where I can breakdown and buy a new setup. I 've already decided on a reel (Daiwa Sealine 47LC) and need a trolling rod to go with it. I definetly want an Ugly Stick but need to decide on the length and action (light/medium/heavy). Must be a 2 piece. I intend to use it for walleye on Erie and salmon on Lake Ontario. Any suggestions? Thanks, HG
  15. Why not contact a local martial arts studio and see if they do performances. In particular they may offer self defence techniques for your female guests. Just a thought!
  16. A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in Canada Well, there's a very simple answer. Nobody bothered to check the oil. We just didn't know we were getting low . The reason for that is purely geographical. Our OIL is located in Alberta, Newfoundland Saskatchewan and B.C. Our DIPSTICKS are located in OTTAWA , ONTARIO
  17. There's a place at Barton and Centennial called Barton Discount. You can get great deals on carpet,, bathroom fixtures and more. I agree with spending extra on better underpad. Makes a world of difference.
  18. You too are entitled to your opinion but you made it personal with the soapbox comment. Let's keep it cordial eh?
  19. No conspiracy.....just supply and demand and the demand is high.
  20. HA HA hA! That was hilarious Roy! (you're kidding right?)
  21. Those pics are great. I have always wanted a border collie and one day before I die I will. It will have to wait 'til I can spend the amount time with it that this breed requires. HG
  22. Apparantly you can still go see him....just not as entertaining!
  23. Marraige is an institution....... so if you want to spend the rest of your life in an institution, get married.
  24. It's a shame your in Ottawa. Cheap flights are available out of Buffalo. We're flying to Tampa at the end of March for $54.00USD each way and far less taxes apply.
  25. Here is the pic I needed help with. Not a great pic by any standards. It's more the memory for me. I was about 15 years old and had just started Salmon fishing. I caught this in the Niagara Whirlpool around October of 1984 or '85. It weighed 28lbs and measured 44 inches. It took about 40 minutes to land after several runs. Thrill of a lifetime. Thanks again to Terry for editing the pic for me.
