Paul and I got invited up to Wayne & Leah's cottage this weekend in Temagami. We booked off Friday and Monday and headed out first thing Friday morning. We heard they were calling for some pretty cold weather, but we were hoping the weatherman was wrong. He wasn't The drive was 5 hours from our place to theirs and pretty uneventful except for the freezing rain from North Bay to Temagami, and the trucker who was passing on a corner coming at us head on in that freezing rain, so we had to break to give him the time to get back in his lane. Idiot Friday night we gabbed and ate homemade beef stew at the kitchen table and enjoyed some stories. Saturday morning the weather greeted us at about -35 C. Can't beat this view on a Saturday morning, even if the snow crunched beneath our feet. We headed out right after breakfast. Oops, ya dropped a loop Wayne!! It got down to a balmy -29 C by the time we were set up and fishing in the wind. Not sure if Leah's tired from Friday night or if Wayne's talking put her to sleep The fishing was slow to say the least and the only fish caught was a little laker caught by me right near sunset. Unfortunately Lakers are out of season in Lake Temagami right now Nice shot of the sunset just before we headed back. We decided to go into town for supper Saturday night at the only restaurant in town. A great Chinese food place that had fantastic food. Sunday morning we tried a different spot hoping for some whities. No sooner had we set up and Paul drops his line and its fish on. A nice pickerel out of 90 FOW Not in the slot - woohooo. Then as soon as I drop my line, its fish on for me aswell. This time tho it was quite a surprise I see when it gets to the surface. A ling!! I've never caught a ling before and let me tell you, they are one slimy fish. Of course the camera was in my pocket so you'll have to wait for Wayne to get back and post that pic. Then shortly after that I caught a small laker and back down the hole she went to get bigger for when she's in season. Here is Paul giving Leah a tip-up 101 lesson. Then Leah's line goes off while we were talking and Wayne called her over. She grabbed the rod and had a great fight on her hands. She kept saying over and over "please don't be a ling, please don't be a ling." It was a really nice sized laker, that also went back down to swim another day. Then I was up next with a small pickerel. Gotta love the pic with the cig in my mouth, how cooth Then I was up again with a nice non-slot pickerel about the same size as paul's. And finally Wayne came in with a nice little pickerel himself. The sun started to set once again so we called it a day. Headed back and had some fantastic homemade lasagne and cabbage rolls that Leah made. Delicious. We had a fantastic time despite the weather and had some great laughs, great company, great stories and watched some movies by the fire. Thanks Wayne and Leah for having us, it was a pleasure. Looking forward to getting together again soon. Not sure what it is about our drives home, but this was what we hit all the way from Hunstville to past Bracebridge. Then just past Holland Landing, traffic stopped. Not slowed, but stopped. Apparently some debris was scattered across the 400 and they closed it. Finally they opened two lanes and as we passed, we found out why, a truck had hit the overpass driving in the far right lane and scattered scaffolding boards all over the place Cheers, Joey

Hahahaha, wonder if we passed you on the highway. We spent the weekend at Wayne & Leah's. Report to follow, I'm too beat now. Great report Cliff and I know the pain you were in due to the weather. It was brutal, but we braved it too Joey

Car doors freezing shut.... remedies anyone?
Joey replied to crappieperchhunter's topic in General Discussion
Well my quick fix for that, if you're in a hurry and need to get to work and the door is frozen, just pour some warm water on the door frame. Works for me every time, and its free Joey -
Unbelievable Talk about gorging. I knew they ate alot at this time but I am surprised they would eat such a large fish for their size. Well ya learn something new everyday doncha Great report. Joey

I just did two sunday filet sessions. I did it the way the second video shows. Took me about a minute a fish. Joey

Great report Wayne. I've never fished G'bay. 3 Feet of water, hahahaha, that's classic. Looks like you had the same visability we did. Joey
-
What a bummer we missed you. We thought you had a change of heart due to the weather. Joey
-
Ya, I just read your report, I don't blame you. I questioned why we were out there on the road a few times. It was not fun. Wayne, that's not much ice at all Joey
-
You made a good call Terry. It was bad driving all day. Cool videos. Wish you could have at least made it to Innisfil, but better safe than sorry. We saw a truck towing a trailer in that mess and the trailer started fishtailing wildly. We couldn't believe it didn't crash or take anybody out with it. He managed to gain control and kept driving in the fast lane Joey

As mentioned in my previous thread, we planned to meet up with Muskybill in Innisfil today. The drive up was not pretty and as soon as we got on the highway we were behind the plows. Not a bad thing, but it made a slow drive even slower. We found Bill right off the bat already set up in about 45 feet of water, so we set up and started fishing. The snow did not let up most of the day, as shown in this pic of Paul, who BTW, got the first fish AND outfished us all Bill doing a jig and having a laugh. Visibility was low, can't even see Fox Island, but there were alot of people out there. Couple action shots of Bill catching some Perch. There was about 8 inches where we fished. Which was a bit unnerving when a truck kept driving by and making the ice crack and moan Our take home for the day AND, the drive home...... We got one for Team 5 tho It was a pleasure Bill. Look forward to seeing you at the Tyler Fundraiser. Joey

Awesome, see y'all tomorrow then. Thanks for the tips Misfish and Walleyemaster, muchly appreciated. Joey

I'm good with Innisfil. Are you on foot? What does your hut look like etc. so we can find you. Can you wear a big chicken head or something Joey
-
Hey, options are always good B Now decisions, decisions Joey
-
Well Innisfil seems like the logical spot then. Perch and/or Lakers and whites if we go far enough out. Whaddya think? Joey
-
So you two heading to Innisfil or Gilford then? Joey
-
Great report Simon. I'm glad the sled didn't give you any hassles after what you went through. Nice fish and great vids. Joey
-
Thanks for the offer Wayne, but we will probably be doing alot of driving next weekend so we just wanted to stay close this weekend Think we'll just hit up Simcoe somewhere, maybe go for some perch, what do you think GCD? Thanks Joey
