York-Simcoe MP Peter Van Loan announced Monday in Jackson's Point the Lake Simcoe Clean-Up Fund will be extended for another five years. The fund, which had wrapped up after five years of funding partnerships and remediation projects around Lake Simcoe, has so far provided $30 million in support to a total of 160 projects. "We've seen real changes happen," Van Loan said, who made the announcement on behalf of Environment Minister Peter Kent. "The lake's health is getting better and better." He said the extension of the fund will result in "a decade of decisive action" for the health of Lake Simcoe. The fund was initially a two-year commitment, Van Loan said, extended to five years to develop hands-on projects and partnerships with organizations that include the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority. Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton, who was also hand for the announcement, said the fund has been a positive move. "It has had a tremendous effect helping to keep Lake Simcoe clean and ensure that this area continues with a healthy environment, and a strong economy," he said. Projects have included phosphorus reduction, restoration of fish habitat, and shoreline restoration. Van Loan also said the fund has brought together groups and organizations within the watershed. "It's been getting people working together as they never have before," he said. Groups that formerly did not talk or co-ordinate their actions, that were in fact in competition for funding, have forged new partnerships - some of which have led to "very innovative" new approaches to environmental protection. "Those are things that would not have happened without the fund. There has been a dramatic turnaround in direction and momentum," Van Loan said. The initiative is also being extended, with the potential for funding projects in the southeast Georgian Bay area, since Lake Simcoe drains into Georgian Bay. The new fund is part of the Government's Action Plan for Clean Water, and will see an estimated $29 million disbursed over the next five years. The first round of applications should be submitted by the end of March 2013, the end of the fiscal year. "We want to see that money focused on real, live projects," Van Loan said. He acknowledged that there is a tight timeline for the first round of funding. Details can be found at www.ec.gc.ca. [email protected]
  2. Great trip! Great memories for sure.
  3. Geeze, a photo like that should come with a warning. I just about messed my little vole pants.
  4. They usually give a township and or a utm don't they?
  5. Longterm forecast is sketchy for Saturday. I hope it improves as the week goes on.
  6. The teams/leagues knew what the deal was. The players were on a week to week basis. Since most are under contract in the nhl they where only able to be under contract elsewhere because they where locked out. Now that the lockout is over, their contracts are in place again.
  7. Would the boat show or sportsmen show be worth your while to shop around and compare?
  8. Sounds very familiar to me. I'd assume that some of the fishing shows have done episodes there. For what that's worth?
  9. I'm thinking of going out next Saturday.
  10. Careful, the weak stance taken can't take much scrutiny.
  11. That ^ sounds an awful lot like belly aching.
  12. You mean a half dead floater? Bald eagles rarely kill their own prey, they most often will scavenge other animal's kills or steal from others. These are facts, not opinions or perceptions. This also doesn't mean that they have no value, far from it, but proper perspective is needed.
  13. I don't know where you got the number of 57 from and I never commented on the pro/con of the windmills. Bald eagles are scavengers.
  14. Hate arguing the side of a corp but bald eagles are a close equivalent to seagulls and the middle of winter is the right time because if the nest had remained, there would be a bigger pr disaster come the nesting season.
  15. And we know the teams/agents are already trying to figure out the loopholes.
  16. The talk is the deal is very similar to the PA's offer from early December. That would be the one where Bettmen had the bug eyed tantrum and Daly said that was a hill they "would die on".
  17. The PA was always going to loose. They sacrificed 40% of one year's salary to get the best of a bad situation.
  18. Two years of the 24% roleback and 43% percent share of revenue first offered more than covers the approximate 40% salary lost this season.
  19. While the nhl is the league with the most talent, for now, I can certainly understand playing/working in your home country even if the money is not the same.
  20. I learned last time that I could "survive" without it (something I never would have thought possible) and quite easily I might add. I'll watch some games, but the priority won't be what it used to be. And I will do everything possible to not contribute a dime to the league.
  21. What?! No hotdog bass? C'mon man!
  22. Hard to put a price on going home.
  23. Naked jigging rap. Will catch anything, anywhere I fish.
