  1. I run my bowmount motor off 2 deep cycles at the front of the boat, and everything else, including 2 depthfinders, a radio, bilge pump, all the lights and all the guages off the cranking battery.

I have an onboard charger for the 2 deep cycles, and the cranking battery is charged by the engine alternator.

All 3 batteries are 7 years old, get used ALOT, and are still as strong as the 1st day.

I think the most important thing is to be sure to always keep them fully charged. If I use my bowmount more than 30 minutes a day, I plug it in when I get back to the dock.

And BTW, I've NEVER used distilled water in my batteries.......just good ole tap water and have never had a problem......touch wood :)

  2. I drove along Queens Quay yesterday and although there is ice in some areas, there's still open water in alot of places.

Toronto Harbor Police did a TV segment 2 nights ago at their Rees St. station, just below the CN Tower, showing how unsafe the ice is by walking across it and breaking thru.

Be careful folks if you decide to try it :glare:

  3. I herniated a disc in my spine in '99 which compressed the sciatic nerve and caused insane pains in my lower right leg.

Before attempting surgery, I went thru physio & chiro to relieve the pain, and when that didn't work I tried several sessions of accupuncture. It did relieve a very small amount of pain, but not enough to really help.

They said it did work very well on some patients, but often did nothing at all, as in my case, but I figured it was worth a try.

Good to hear it worked well for you Cliff.

  4. The C-3 is sorta like an old Chevy, nuthin fancy, but it always runs good.

It's a decent reel to get you started and with a little TLC it'll last you a long time. The main draw back is rather than the thumb bar, the spool release is up on the top, but it won't take you long to get used to it.

It's not real smooth, quiet, or pretty, but it'll serve you well till you save up the pennies for that shiny new Calcutta ;)

That's an excellent rod you bought too, BTW !!

  5. Quite possibly (likely) I'm wrong here, but I was in BPS the other day and I think I saw 6" Fin Bores for $42.......no idea what style handle it had though.

I wasn't really paying attention to the ice gear, but I seem to recall that price, and they did have a sale on some ice gear.

  6. That's definetely good news Rich, and it'll be good to finally meet you after all this time.

There'll be a bunch of the regular pickeral experts up there and they be able to steer you in the right direction and let you know what the hot baits are.

I'll be arriving on the morning of the 19th myself......see ya then.

  7. Rich, it'd be great if you could join us this year and guaranteed you'll have an excellent time and meet some wondeful people.

You wouldn't be the 1st or last person to sleep in your truck, and there's a great restaurant right in the camp only 100 yards away for your meals, and ice is always available for your cooler.

Kevin has excellent cedar strip boats and motors available for rent, or you may even be able to share a boat with another OFNer who's travelling alone, which is often the case. Perhaps post a direct question here as far as sharing boats and expenses and you should be able to come up with something.

There may even be someone with an extra spot in a cabin you could share.

Pike and pickeral are very plentiful in June, but the muskies are more difficult to find that time of year.

You definetely want to make this trip though if at all possible.

  8. I have no interest in ice fishing either, infact I just sold all my ice fishing gear this weekend, but I have no problem getting outta bed on a cold, snowy December morning and sitting in a boat on the open water all day looking for a late season musky .......sorta the same thing.......isn't it ?? :dunno:
