Go back and read thru the pages of this forum and you'll find some of our longest & most interesting discussions ever, have had absolutely nothing to do with fishing or fishing related subjects.......jeeeeeez, even old Chuck Norris got 35 responses for his birthday

Nope, it won't be affecting any of my plans, I'll still be heading to Lakair on Nippising a couple times this year, plus my usual trip to the Ottawa River, and then as always, I'll be spending most of my time travelling all over the Kawarthas from early May till November. I don't drink or smoke, and my wife won't allow me to chase loose women, so I may as well spend my money on gas for fish'n.

I received the same email yesterday, and whether it's from Andy Rooney or not, it doesn't really matter, but it sure does have alot of truth to it.

Personally, I like a show that's just plain & simple fishing without all the fancy footwork, but they're getting harder & harder to find every season. I spose the problem is there's just so many shows available on the tube now, everyone is looking for an edge or gimmick to attract viewers. I don't watch shows that have the music blasting in the background, or the camera jumping all over the place at crazy angles, and I certainly don't need to see a video of the guy who's taking the video of the fisherman. To me, the Linders have always had a great show, both the old In-Fisherman, and now the new one, and the reason I think most guys like it is because it's just basic fishing without all the glitz thrown in. I'd like to see more of the fishing shows get back to basics and leave the special effects to Hollywood, but that's just the way I feel about it.

I know what your saying Dave, I stepped off the back of a firetruck one night and got hit by a car coming up alongside of it....luckily he wasn't going too fast. I think some of these people see flashing red lights and think it's a target they're sposed to aim for.

Well said Joey & Mike. Back when I was on the job, the 1st thing I'd do at an accident scene on a busy road was use the truck to block the lane off to protect both the victims and us. It's hard to believe that people will see emergency workers (or hiway crews) trying to help someone, and they haven't got the smarts to at least slow down a bit or move over and give the people a chance to do their job. Nope, not a tax grab at all.

Good stuff Wayne and definetely better to be playing in the snow, rather that shovelling it all weekend like most of us

I made a purchase in RONA's the other day with a VISA card and the cashier noticed my signature had worn off and asked me to sign it again before she would accept it.

Fishingeek, you weren't stealing my thunder at all, infact it's good to hear I'm not the only one that really enjoys a good, well put together fishing show. Another one that I watch all the time is Fishing the Edge ??...I think that's the name...the one with Al Lindner. Same idea as Musky Hunter, no bells & whistles and very little spam, just down to earth fishing, the way it's meant to be.
-
I actually posted this same message a couple months back when I first came across the Musky Hunter TV show on WFN. Very good show and as you say, there's very little spamming of the sponsors products like on so many shows today, he gives some good info & tips and a real bonus, there's no music blasting in the background.....never could figure why anybody thinks that's what fishermen want in a show. Yup it's just a good old fashioned fishing show like we used to see.

Ahhhh yes, the good old days, eh Pete, back when even Toronto had a hockey team

I agree Raf, the fish are certainly attracted to them, but usually knock them outta the way before they get hold of the hooks. I throw Doc's alot and do get fish on them, but miss far more than I hook. Still alot of fun to watch them blow up on the baits though !!

Bill, your making a good choice with the Compre, it's an excellent musky rod & comes with a lifetime warranty too. I've got a couple myself and IMHO, they're every bit as good as my St. Croix rods. As for the bartering, yup, you can often work some nice deals with a few of the vendors.

Actually Shawn, the TE400 is a Calcutta casting reel, but your right about the Tekota's, their also an incredible reel and I use one myself for trolling.
-
Sounds good Shawn, I'll be there when the doors open Wednesday morning. I'll be smilin all day too, I'm picking up a Shimano TE400 & another musky pole

Mega OFC shore lunch.......only 3 more months till the next one !!

Guys, it's not the fish that does the damage to the plastic rod holders, it's the baits that are being trolled and the pressure they apply. Salmon baits are relatively small and don't have a huge amount of drag to them, plus the fact that they are often attached to a cannon ball, which is fastened by a wire cable to the downrigger. Basically all the holder is doing is holding on to the rod. Musky baits on the other hand are much larger, with some well over a foot long and a diving lip the size of your hand, and when you've got something that big, diving down 20 or 30' at a speed sometimes of 5 or 6 miles per hour, there's some enormous pressure being put on the rod holder. The plastic rod holders just have small tabs that fit into corresponing slots in the base and when the pressure builds, those tabs can strip. I'm not putting the plastic holders down, infact many of the models on the market are excellent and the Scotty Strikers are a perfect example, I just think for tolling VERY big baits with enormous drag, your much safer with an all metal holder. I've seen plastic holders fail while holding the pressure of large, deep diving baits, but I've never seen a metal one fail yet, although I'm certainly not saying it can't happen with them either. That's only my dimes worth though. I also like the extra security of using wire cables to attach my trolling gear to the boat. Nothing worse than seeing all that expensive gear taking an unplanned swim when you least expect it.

WTG Chris, it's nice when you've got a job you enjoy enough to stick with for all those years. I got a watch after 25 years, woulda rather had that fish'n pole though

Happy Anniversary Jon, we all knew you could do it

Thanks Mike, I heard from Rob yesterday, Diane and I are thinking of them.

There's a fella in the n/w corner of Peterboro that builds custom trailers and from what I've seen he does excellent work. Seems like most of his work is enclosed trailers for construction gear & horses, that sorta stuff, but he could certainly give you some advice on what you need, or I would assume could do it for you. He's done some work on my boat trailer and I've been more than happy with both the work and his prices. He's on Chemong Road just south of hwy 7 Bruce Trailer Fabricators 705-203-2884
