  1. Mike, if you can't find the Knipex in town, you can order them from the following address in Saskatchewan. I ordered mine from them several years ago and had them in a couple days. I payed around $60 but I see now their up to $67 but their still worth the $$$$ Click the link, then go to tools, then cutters and your looking for the Cobalt Cutter with spring. That's the one myself and most of my friends use and everyone is very happy with them. http://theringlord.com/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=70&cat=Wire+Cutters&websess=51517545158254
  2. Just this morning I was talking about next years Odyssee Dax and am all ready looking forward to it. Always guaranteed to be a great day.
  3. If you ever have the mis-fortune of getting a 7/0 driven thru your hand while a PO'd musky is still attached to the other end, you'll be wishing you had the Knipex so you can cut yerself free with the one hand you have remaining. Nuthin worse then a cheap tool when you need the best one in a hurry. The CTC cutters will work on small hooks but for the BIG hooks, you'll be glad you spent the $$$$ for the quality product. And just an FYI, ALWAYS keep your cutters where you can get at them in a hurry. You don't want to have to start hunting for them when that BIG slimer is trying to rip your hand off.
  4. Sheeeesh Art, 42F is swimmin weather
  5. Thanks for that link Randy. There'll be a 2 evening course and exam in Peterboro sometime in either May or June, they don't know yet, and that'll cost $85 or I can purchase a book and CD from the Power Squadron for $70, do my own studying and then take the test. Maybe I'll check and see if that link will give me everything I need, but they'll probably still charge for the exam.
  6. It's funny Wayne, I used radio's on the job for 30 odd years and never needed a license, but now I have to have one. Seems like just another $$$$ grab to me but don't spose we have much choice.
  7. I've heard the same thing from different folks too Dara, but I'd think if your stopped by the OPP and they see the antenna & radio their definetely gonna want to see the license that goes with it. I normally get stopped by the police a couple times a year down this way and at least once or twice a summer on Nippissing, so I think the chances of getting checked are pretty good.
  8. Been using Power Pro on all my musky rods for probably 7 or 8 years now and never had a problem with it. It's good stuff in my books.
  9. Roy, I called the phone # in your link and talked to the fella that gives the courses, turns out he lives 3 miles from me. Gotta luv the power of the internet hahaha
  10. Thanks Roy, that's just what I was looking for. You ARE fast
  11. capt bruce, thanks for sharing that and it shows how bad these critter collisions can really be. Good to hear you got out alive but it sure sounds like the deer made a mess of both you and your car. Scary stuff fer sure.
  12. Don't know what happened to it kvd, last my daughter saw was the OPP pulling it off to the side of the road. I spose anybody could have it if they wanted it. As to the deer whistles on cars, I remember reading an article on them where studies were done and evidentely they didn't really make that much of a difference overall as many folks with them were still hitting deer on the roads. Who knows though, perhaps they do indeed scare some critters off the road and it would be nice to think they've actually prevented some accidents.
  13. Hi guys, I want to install a VHF marine radio in my boat. I need to get a license for it and understand I have to take a course before writing the test. Anybody know who I'd contact in the Peterboro area ??
  14. He's a lucky man Joey, thank God he got out safely.
  15. Thanks guys, as you say the most important thing is Sheri wasn't injured cause it can always be worse that it is. Nope she didn't keep the meat and I doubt it would be much good after being hit at 80K although I believe it's legal to do so. Brian, that was the 1st thing I thought of after receiving the phone call, was it one of "my own" criiters that had wandered down there ?? And Norm, nope, haven't seen any bear yet myself here, but there's been reports of them all over the area the last couple years.
  16. My daughter spent the weekend up here with us and then left this morning about 6:00 AM to head to the city. She'd only been gone 20 minutes and was approaching Bridgenorth when a deer came outta nowhere and she nailed it head on. Sheri wasn't hurt at all but sadly the deer was killed instantly and her car received some serious damage. The OPP came and took the info and moved the deer to the side of the road, then Sheri came back up here to relax a bit before heading out again and I took a couple pics of the car. The hood & fender are totalled, the headlite smashed and the windshield cracked right across, plus the wipers are also bent and whatever else I can't see. She called the insurance and their gonna pay for everything with no penalty to her, 'cept for her deductible.
  17. Good having you back Shawn, I wondered where you were.
  18. Good stuff Joey, another great Niagara trip for you guys.
  19. That really stinks Mike, I don't think there's many things in this life lower than a thief. Hopefully, Karma catches up to them someday.
  20. Thanks for posting the pictures Rich, I've been waiting to see them. With the blue F150 and now the Tracker with the blue stripes, your gonna look purty snazzy going down the hiway. Best of luck with it my friend !!
  21. I'm not into river fishing at all Mike but I've always enjoyed reading your tales and your pictures are excellent too !! Really good stuff.
  22. With the beautiful weather today I decided to put everything else on hold and pull the boat outta the garage and knock off the winter cobwebs. Sure was nice to finally be able to spend the whole afternoon puttering around to get her all cleaned up and ready for another fishing season after a long winter. Might even get all the electronics put back in tomorrow. Now, if we can just get the rest of the ice off the lake I'll be all set
  23. Gorgeous photograph Dr.Sal, thanks for posting that !!
  24. When casting most baits for muskies I use 400 series Calcutta CT's & TE's but for burning baits or using jerk or twitch baits where fast line retrieve is neccesary, I like the larger spool reels as suggested by Dax and use 7000 series Abu's. Their big reels but bring in line very fast and with the power handles they also work well for cranking the large double bladed Cowgirl type baits with blades up to #13. The quality in the Abu reels is poor but at only about $150 it doesn't hurt too bad when they fall apart after a year or two.
  25. Just to show you the other side of the coin Brian & the way a company SHOULD treat their customers. We've been buying our furniture from Leon's for more than 40 years because of their great service and quality products, so when we were moving north last month we went to Leons and bought all new furniture for the entire place and it was delivered exactly 4 weeks ago today. When they were putting the feet on one of the couches they noticed a small 1/4" hole in the dust cover UNDERNEATH the couch and pointed it out to me. I put a piece of tape over it and told him not to even worry about it. They finished unloading all my stuff and headed back to Toronto and just after they left here they called the store manager from the truck and told him about the hole. Thirty minutes after the truck left my driveway, the manager called us to apologize for the hole and because I didn't want the couch repaired at their cost, he insisted we take a $135 gift certificate which we received in the mail a couple days later. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it does show the differences in attitude from one company to another. Hope you get your loveseat repaired shortly.
