Another fan of MEC here too, I always thought they were a great store with excellent quality gear and never gave the $5 membership thingy a 2nd thought. I used to do ALOT of winter biking and bought all my fleece and GoreTex riding gear from them and I've still got some it years after I gave up riding and it's still as good as the day I purchased it even though it often took a beating. Good quality gear that wasn't carried by most other stores. I've also got a down winter parka that I purchased there that is by far the best I've ever owned. Darned thing doesn't weigh much more than a T-shirt but I can wear it on the coldest days with practically nothing underneath it. I'm a long ways from any MEC stores now but if there were any close by I'd certainly be shopping there again. Yup, great place to buy quality gear.

My dad grew up in Saskatchewan and always talked about 40 below in the winter, but said you never noticed the cold because it was dry......ya right, 40 below is 40 below

Outstanding Dave !!

-35F is probably my coldest Shawn and that was enough for me. Couldn't imagine another 100 degrees colder than that

Rather than posting your complaints about what the firefighters said on this forum, why not contact the Fire Dept Chief and voice your concerns there. If you guys feel the FF are giving false advice, take it to the top.

Nice effect there Drew, thanks for that, and as for growing old with fishing, well, I've already done that Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed the pictures

Hopefully 2014 will be your year Art & with any luck, I'll be your net man.

And Bill, sorry we never hooked up this year like we talked about, but as I said I haven't hardly been out myself and haven't been on the water since September. I owe Brian an apology too. Maybe next year guys.

I normally only take one picture of a fish then get her back in the water, but when she jumped just as the camera flashed I figured the picture was no good so I took the 2nd one. I agree, it turned out pretty darned good...and funny LOL

Great on the Barbie Roy

Always good at the end of the season when guys show some of their better catches for the year so I thought I'd post a recap too. Trouble is I've kind of semi retired from fishing lately and only got out a few times but landed a couple nice ones up on the West Arm of Nippissing and even though I posted them before, I'll show them again. This girl came along in June but I didn't bother measuring her but I guestimated somewhere around the 50 mark. Pretty fish whatever her size This lady came in August and I did measure her which was unusual as I almost never do, specially when I'm alone in the boat like this time. The camera was on a timer and sitting in a stand on the rear deck so they didn't turn out too good, but you get the idea. She measured 51" There were a couple other caught but I didn't bother with pictures. Not alot of fish, but they were gooduns.

I'm one of the lucky ones and don't really need anything, infact when I was asked by my family to make up a wish list I had a heck of a time coming up with anything. It's a good feeling when you have everything you need in life.

OK Cliff, thanks, hope you get fixed up soon.

Do you not have a sewage pump downstairs Cliff, in addition to your sump ?? Reason I ask is I've also got a raised bungalow with a septic system, but I've also got 2 floor drains in the basement that feed into a sewage pump system. One is in the furnace room and the other is in the downstairs bathroom. Any water in there is pumped up to the septic.

We'll I did it. Bought my first bait casting set up

Not always necessary to spend big bucks on fish'n gear Brian -
Tough run of luck for you this year Cliff, hopefully that's the end of it. My son had a hot water pipe blow apart in his place years ago and left him with $30,000 in damages but the insurance fixed it all up for him and they even put him and his wife up in a hotel including all meals while they did it. Hopefully you get treated as good as they were.

It's funny Rich, but I always just assumed you already used baitcasters, even when we fished together I didn't realize you weren't using one. Guess I should pay more attention to things LOL Their very simple to use and you'll be happy you made the switch. -

The higher gear ratio brings the bait in faster Rich, but it also makes it tougher to crank the big blades. Lower ratio brings the bait in slower but much easier to crank. If you've got the power handle on yours, that'll help though. -

That's a nice reel Rich, I got one for Sheri last year and she likes it, but it's got a fairly high gear ratio that makes it a bit tougher cranking those large double bladed bucktails you like. Just my opinion though. -
Thanks John, but my Scrumpy days (daze) are faaar behind me
-
Back when I was in the navy in the 60's we used to go over to England the odd time and we'd always head to the local pub and drink Scrumpy. It was a fermented apple cider and strong enough to knock you on your butt if you weren't careful. Very nice drink but very potent. Seems to me we used to pay a shilling a glass which if I remember correctly was about 25 cents CDN.

There was a good reason why I kept a fence between me and this big fella when I was taking his picture recently

My 2013 F150 came with HID bulbs and even the low beams are like the landing lights on a 747, and when I put on the hi beams it's like the sun has just come up. Really incredible lights, specially on the very dark back country roads that I normally travel on.
