Please don't take it personally Joey but I can see how you would. You don't represent the entire Province. I haven't had good experiences there. We went to Reserve Beauchene and were not treated very well at all. I went with a few Yanks and they were overtly disrespected and it embarrassed me as a Canadian. They didn't know I spoke some French and some things they were saying wasn't good, and we are paying them? When we had a camp on the Ottawa we often went over the bridge at Pembroke to Ft. Coulange and some of those folks were wonderful, some complete ass jacks. When in Verdun we had to fight our way out of town more than a few times after a game, why? We were from Ontario.

Depending on how long you spend in a particular State you may not get 6 months. Florida is 6 months others are less. The other thing to check and you most likely you know a few days in Ontario may not keep your OHIP up to date when you need it. Rules and regulations change so fast here and in the US everything I know about living and staying across the border may not apply today. Depending on what health benefit provider one has things can change drastically once outside not just Canada but outside the province of ones primary residence.

Hey there Mr. Shag. I too thought I would go blind reading dark on dark. I did complain. Easy fix. The new format and features are fantastic.

Just about the time I was off to University. As far as picking a good spot to fish, like all fishing it's a crap shoot. I have seen my sonar screen chock full of fish many times and not a single fish was had. Pick a spot and have fun with the Old Guy. Catching fish is way down the list compared to sharing quality time with your Pops. At this time in my life I would rather walk a mile than take one of those vertebrae crushing sled rides on bumpy ice for a mile. My back is sore just thinking about it.

Sir Cranks, I just noticed your by-line at the bottom of your page. Isn't that true. But at least in golf I am guarantied to hit the ball 100 times or so, often I fish all day and don't hit a single one.

I was wondering why this old thread came up. I'm glad I noticed the date before I replied. Maybe Art can help you tracking down doug Nemo. I know he can't give out any email addresses but maybe he can contact douG to contact you. I won't fish in Quebec ever again. Like being beamed down to a different planet.

Anyone hoping to be on ice in 2 weeks with the forecast?

Make sure you don't tie off to the bumper of your vehicle. Someone may get the great idea to go get a coffee in town. Wayne I thought the 8" we got here last night was too much, that's crazy. More snow last night than all last winter. I think we are in for a Duesenberg this year. I can't wait for the winds to start blowing off the lake. -
I was thinking you are nuts soft water fishing in this weather. Then I saw you in the pic, you aren't unbalanced you are young. Keep it up and son put on a toque. When we skied years ago it wasn't cool to wear a toque, so we all froze to death but sure looked cool with my Elvis shades on for all the young Dollies.

I actually had the same question about keeping them dry. I am going to leave them in the bags the guy provides but outdoors and tarp them, I am just out of room. Buddy says I can store them in the barn at the farm but I know they will disappear. A spray of oil on the rims maybe. I have noticed some rust on the rims and around bolt holes in the Spring a few times. Great idea stacking them on a tree, especially with roller wheels on the base, ingenious really especially when space is at a premium like here. We don't have a garage, a good sized shed and a few years ago I built another big shed for all my fishing and boat stuff. My dear lady evicted me from most of it and has all her landscaping tools in both. Tich is shopping for a new place for us and I am garage/shop shopping. She will be online and say Hey look at this place and I ask does it have a big garage or shop? If no I don't even look at it. She reminds me we can always build a shop, yea right, I said the same about this place 22 years ago, no garage. What about someone saying to let some air pressure out Dan?

If the cold keeps up like last night and today Long Point Bay may even freeze, not in 2 weeks but eventually. I hope so. The thermometer on the lake side deck says -15C. -
Welcome lureme. Nice introduction. I suggest you post what you wrote under your own thread heading. This will be buried and not everyone will see it. You are in the middle of the best fishing in southern Ontario. Lake Ontario and its tributaries including Trout from The Niagara River to well east of T.O. and 45 minutes from Lake Erie and some World class Walleye and Smallmouth Bass. Here is one of the small Pics from this summer!!

Hi Garry with 2 R's. Living the dream there eh mate? Did you come back on here to make us all jealous? I just shoveled snow for the first time in 2 years, at least. Where will the winds bring you after Christmas? I guess all you have to do is point the bow in a direction and that's where you are going. Livin' the dream there Cappy. By the way what a great 1st mate you have there Garry with 2 R's. Keep those pics coming so I can warm myself up before we head to Fla.

Not sure where you are but if there is ice Binbrook Conservation Area is an easy, kid friendly ice fishing spot. They rent clams. Only 10 minutes to McDonalds.

I have to put away the summer tires on the wheels. Store vertically, horizontal or it doesn't matter. I store vertically piled one atop another to save space. Take the plastic wraps off the tire guys put on? Someone told me to take 5 pounds out of them. Yes I pay the guy his 50 bucks. I'm 63 not 53, big difference believe me. Advise please. Dan, are you there Dan D?

Something to talk about while water freezes, Nwebies

That's a better way of saying it Chris, Old Boys Club. Like going to a party and you don't know a soul, they meet you then go to their corner and talk amongst themselves. I was somewhat intimidated when it came to replying. I thought I knew a bit about fishing but come to find out based on the experiences of many here I didn't know as much as I thought when I came to fishing and I didn't want to come across as a duffus. My gang fished together for years and we didn't evolve much. No "fishing" shirts with logo's, we wore and still do Red Blacks and Cowboy hats. New tackle, methods, equipment etc. I have learned plenty here, like I say "You don't know what you don't know until you do." Hey I know what a parabolic curve on a rod is, I thought that only applied to engineering, who da thought? A real eye opener was to learn people actually pay several hundred bucks for a rod or reel. My most expensive combo is a Shimano Aero ultra lite rod and reel that was $100.00 and I won it in a draw from the Stelco Fishing Club. Courtesy of Bill's Bait, Upper James, Hamilton On. They deserve a plug. The most positive thing is that I met many guys here I can call friends. -
You got that right Terry, I don't know about everyday but, I did a 3 week job in England 5 years ago and put on 2500 miles. Some folks I met said they don't put 2500 miles on their cars in a year. Having a car in Europe is a luxury not a need like e do. Then again there are countries you can drive from one side to the other in a few hours or less, like England. Nova Scotia isn't too much different. They plan for 2 days to drive 2 hours across the Province. B-I-L from Halifax flipped when I had to go pay a bill in Hamilton, a short 45 minute drive, he couldn't believe it. When he saw the line of red tail lights on the cars in bumper to bumper traffic at night on the 401 coming from Pearson he wanted to go home. It must be something for someone that has never seen TO traffic to see for the first time. He must have taken 50 pictures and texted them home by the time we went a mile.

I won't be back from south until sometime in February but if you are still up to it the gang of 4 of us old fogies are planning on a late February early March venture north. Some of the best ice fishing is year end. You guys will be more than welcome to get a hut and tag along. Probably Simcoe. We love to get kids out fishing. I have enough ice fishing stuff to open a store, and I already donated a mess of it because I thought I was done with ice fishing, nope. Man, I'm listening to the Voice and Monday Night Football is on grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

That can be tough fishing there. There are a few spots that hold the panfish kids love to catch but operators usually set up where the big Moma Walleye lurk. I don't see an impatient kid lasting all day without a nibble or trying to haul in a 8lb Pic. I wouldn't pick BOQ for kids. There won't be ice on Erie it looks like this year, hope so though. A place like St. Williams is the place to take a kid. The visibility can be 10 feet or more and it is in HD. Kid's love watching the fish swim by, catch or no catch. Too bad. Come on Shloim, I have a great spot to take the kids fishing in winter (you not me,), Disney World. For most working Dad's all you need to do is win the 649 first.

I figured that Dave, just being as wise crack. When I meet an adult that says they were born in 95' I realize how old I am really getting.

I can make a 14" Perch look like a Nile Perch at the right depth of field. I went to the site and they are big Bass, don't get me wrong they are big but not like the pic shows it to be. They all look like Largemouth to me, what makes them a Spotted Bass? I know the spots but I don't see no stinkin' spots. -
Can you give me the Readers Digest definition or a link to a site online I can believe. Dan D, nice ride. I don't do much ATV riding anymore, actually twice in 3 years but if I did I would want a side by side. My wife and I took out buddies for a few hours this summer, a lot more sociable and way more fun with the communication helmets. Not much fun looking at the back of someone's head and not knowing where we are going. Safer too. When you are in the back no way to see the ditch, hill or creek coming. My riding days go back to those widow maker 3 wheelers and I'm still alive.

Brian they get all the good stuff at better prices because they have 300 plus million potential customers and we have 30 million. There's some math. I refuse to shop there and have never bought a thing there. Drove all the way from Selkirk to Vaughn in bad weather only to find out what they told me via email was on sale and I took the 7 hr or more return trip because of that ridiculous 400 series traffic only to find out the prices are in US funds and they don't stock the Canadian stores with them anyway. Never again. Then if that wasn't bad enough got a bill for the 407 to boot. I do quite a bit of spray painting, both with a compressor or just aerosol cans. I did at least 8 sets of outdoor patio furniture this year. I see you were indoors Brian, the temp and humidity where you are painting how well the application comes out. I won't paint unless the temp is at least 55F. Below that is NFG in my experience. The warmer and dryer the better. 80 F and very humid is as bad as 40 F and dry. My inserted text is eating the text that was there, again. it should say "temp and humidity where you are painting will determine how well the application turns out." -
You know exactly what I'm saying. I'm not saying I don't miss many of them because I grew up with most of them that I do miss , some were good guys that would do anything for you and still will I bet. They say people don't change but drugs and alcohol will change people.

I know for a fact in Italy a vehicle must go through a very intensive safety check every 5 years, less if a commercial vehicle. Far more detailed than our safeties here in On. You don't see many if any vehicles over 7 years old in many European countries. The cars that don't make the cut are sold en mass to Africa, India and 3rd World nations. Compared to many European countries some cars and many commercial trucks we have on the roads here make us look like a 3rd World country. It's one of the first things visitors from there comment about. The driving conditions in Europe is by far more difficult than here in Canada. 2 vehicles share on roads in mountain regions that don't have enough room for 2 North American cars or especially trucks. Picture driving in the Rockies every day or super highways like the Autobahn in Germany or the Autosrada in Italy without speed limits. You better have good tires to get home alive there. I'm sure we all know guys that have 4 different makes of tires on their old hoopdies.

I have noticed as of late that a few newbies join and the first thing they ask is about fishing spots. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. We all were new here at one time or another. I don't remember what my first post or even reply was about. I had not been on a fishing forum for at least 10 years. I didn't know any better as far as introducing myself to the members. I do now if I join somewhere. I at times could be pretty harsh when someone would join and the first post was asking about fishing spots. It all depended on how and what they were asking about. I'm not the only one. It would be interesting to me to see how many people bother to read the forum rules before they post, sometimes it's obvious they didn't. I accidently opened a thread from Nov. where a guy with 1 post asked about launching somewhere, he didn't get a single response because he posted it in "Fishing News." I believe you have to select "yes" to reading the rules before officially joining. The only way to do that would be to make a prerequisite that an intro was required. I'm not suggesting any changes Art. You guys have worked hard enough going to the new system for 1 year. I just thought it would be interesting to know how many bother to read the rules. I probably didn't. When I first joined I remember being intimidated, me, intimidated. Sometimes I would post a reply and it was like I was in a different room if you know what I mean. I wish these lakes will freeze soon or it was December 27th because that's when our plane tickets to West Palm Beach are good for. We should be fishing in Islamorada January 2nd. My lady has to return on the 8th so does my buddies wife's, he and poor me have an open ended ticket back to Buffalo anytime before March 1st. In auto racing the end of the season from F-1 to Stock Cars (can't remember the sponsor this year, it changes every year) is called the silly season. From November until January 1 or until the water gets hard where it's open is what I call fishing's Silly Season because not much fishing going on to report except for a few die hard guys down here or those that live in the Arctic Watershed. If not for them we have to read silly posts like this one.
