  1. When you get a chance read one of those little Green paperbacks hanging from a chain on the job site. Most likely for you guys Rick it would be The Ontario Health and Safety Act for Mines and Mining Plants. I know you have, haven't others? Does everyone sleep through WHIMIS? It's all there in black and white. I really couldn't believe what I saw and heard on those sites. It was like going back to the 70's at Stelco. The year I worked as MOL inspector I told my manager most of the construction sites were in violation each and everyday, manufacturing plants were generally compliant. His reply and I adopted it would be "do you fish?" yep, " do you catch them all?" Oops Hi-Jack alert. This is what we would talk about at the GTG, fishing a bit too. Always the way. Get away fishing with the guys at the plant and talk about what? WORK!!!!
  2. OK another convoluted possession/limit question. If I catch a limit of fish, go to shore and eat 1 can I go back out and catch another to fill my possession limit? Even though I will keep some fish rarely do we limit out on Walleye here. Not needed really because 4 nice fish in a morning of trolling or drifting would be close to or over 40 pounds. 4 or 5 fish between 2 of us is plenty. I don't want to be on the water at Noon anyway, too hot and that's when the winds on Erie pick up most days. Fish Farmer and Wormdunker can have the entire lake to themselves when it's 30C and you are covered in Mayflies. Even when we get into a good school of Jumbo Perch I don't relish cleaning 200 Perch. We have a lady at the Marina that will clean them but 200 fish might cost well over $100.00 at 3 bucks a pound.
  3. Aecon is a very large contractor, has been for years. They were mostly mechanical construction and maintenance. Some of their Managers though were 25 years behind the times. More like 40 years behind, before the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1978 came into legislation. More than a few times I told a Superintendent or GF, "you can't say that man!" As in "if you don't like it go home." Coming from a place with a highly educated Union workforce I was actually shocked. I couldn't work for them, I hope the culture has changed today.
  4. If you have a pet Puppy, tie a swivel from your rod and reel to it's collar and throw a stick, if you can reel in a Pit Bull with medium or even light tackle you are all set for the next season. There is no such thing as being bored in the Winter. I only did it in the basement. My neighbours thought I was a little off already.
  5. OK. I wonder why a guy needs to have a holstered pistol on his belt to make a You Tube video? He must wear it to bed with his hot 10 crazy woman. Tell me something I don't know. In my experience hot 10 crazy women usually end up as old bat cat ladies. The hot factor dives quickly after 45 leaving only the crazy factor. Sorry I couldn't listen to him for the entire 7 minutes.
  6. Came on just a minute ago. 9 year old girl suspected to be nabbed by Mother yesterday at 6 King St. Welland. Layla Sabrie. Tune into your local Amber Alert station. This is when social media is a good thing.
  7. M2B2, you win the spelling bee.
  8. I love the wing tip. I've been pigging out on those babies since I got off strained carrots. Mom is from North Tonawanda NY. I still remember taking the bus to the Saturday market in east Buffalo with Nani and she got wings for free. When they say that the Anchor Bar in Buffalo invented the Buffalo chicken wing I laugh. Maybe they were the first to charge for them. Durkee's hot sauce on wings have been around long before the Anchor Bar served them. When we were babes we could go into bars in the States with Dad and the Uncles and I remember them serving them free like peanuts and there was a bottle of Durkees you smothered them in, this was 1959. My favorite drink at 6 was Birch Beer. Something like Root Beer. I was one of a few Canucks that had a McDonalds burger on the Niagara Falls Boulevard long before we had a Mac's in Canada. They were something like 10 cents each and I could whack out 30 cents worth.
  9. It's strange how we as humans prefer one species over another and give them preferential treatment over another.
  10. Yep, I have had several X-rays and MRI's of the noggin over the years. All show nothing. Isn't negative the same as nothin'. I saw something the other day on one of those silly health reports. A single deep fried chicken wing has no less than,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ready,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 375 calories. I will fast from the 25th, no 26th, wait maybe the 28th until the 29th. I had no idea they were that much. No wonder I can't get under 205 anymore.
  11. You want to swing by Spiel and pick me up? Maybe Wormdunker will. Actually the Lady I work for here just suggested I use that stuff in my wallet and get a room on Upper James. Hmmm, after party? Based on most of the ages in the gang from last year, lights out at 11 maybe stretch to 11:30
  12. 7? Isn't it 6 in most zones. Yep nothing like a nice Pike out of cold water, even warm water they are pure solid meat. Never a worm and a sore on them is rare. Talking to my kid brother just now and he reminded me we just cut the entire back off and then used that piece for the Pike Cakes. Cut into 2" chunks and into the food processor. A few pulses and added salt, pepper, garlic, paprika, dried oregano, Italian bread crumbs, eggs, and Parmasiano cheese. If too dry added 1/2 and 1/2. Made burger size patties and then egg wash, bread crumbs and fried or baked to a golden brown. I remember old Walt Adams who was a Dock Foreman always had a pocket full of warm pike cakes wrapped in tin foil in his pocket on the job.
  13. I met him just once when I worked with Aacon for a bit after I left. He was a natural born leader, that was obvious because you just don't meet that many people in your life that after 1 minute you say "he's the real deal".
  14. Another hour of living precariously through Mr. Bunkers life. Always a great read Drew, now I have questions. What type of paint do you use to colour the Coho and Musky to make them appear to be Brookies and Pike? Good job on the colouration. The knees and back aren't what they once were and I would give anything to be 52 again. Enjoy it ALL now Drew, no one knows what tomorrow will bring. A indoor facility tip when there is none. When the crew from Hamilton had the cabin in your neck of the woods on the Ottawa (Westmeath actually Lac Coulonge sic) and the outhouse was a tricky trek in daylight let alone the dead of night we used a 20 litre pail with Kitty Litter in it. I know you won't do what Mikes teen son did once and that was to throw it on the fire, man not a good smell. Good fishin' young man and good livin'.
  15. Is it acting up? Is this preventative maintenance? I clean my Shimanos I use for Smallies a few times a season and have some that have lasted over 20 years without changing any bearings, springs or brake pads just cleaning and a drop of machine oil. All my other reels will get a good cleaning over the winter and that's about it. I always have been if it ain't broke kind of guy. That Stratic should last you years without any changes or upgrades, mine has I just keep it clean. I just did the math and that reel is cast for Smallies about 200 times in a day everyday for a few weeks after the opener.
  16. Boys,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,It's that time of the year where we as good people are to live with peace on Earth and good will to man. After the New Year go nuts and attack each other. Every time I go out here on Erie I am hunting for food, no Walleye is getting released here by anyone I know. Smaller Perch, yes, the odd Smallmouth, yes. But I will not be ashamed to take my fish home including a Rainbow. Nice catch reelingmachine. You go man. Years ago I was shown how to take out the Y bones. Then one of the Yanks at the camp said "We eat the Y bones." Say what Buddy? The strip of meat with the Y bone is added to some fillets and done in the food processor to make fish cakes. Once emaciated with the crumbs, cheese, eggs and spices there isn't a Y bone to be found. My former Father in Law wouldn't let you put a Pike in the boat. Then one day my BIL and I kept a nice Northern for the weekly fish fry. Fed Dad the Pike and he never knew the difference and swore it was a Walleye and we were full of it.
  17. I wonder how the non native Lakers got into the lake in the first place? I never agree with Humans playing God in nature unless we are reversing bad decisions of the past.
  18. No Speil I was talking about the first choice. I was happy it was changed and just wanted everyone to know about Art's tragic death. I got all emotional and it went straight to the keyboard. Sorry Kelvin. I'm all calmed down this glorious morning. I hope to make it on the 29th. I really do not enjoy driving at night now, maybe I can talk one of the lake scallywags here to join me. Just this week and it's only Friday 3 Deer crossed my path. Last night a huge Buck jumped out of the ditch and did a 180 when he heard my Deer Gear I bought at the $$ store!
  19. A fellow Stelco worker was murdered there by a POS gang banger I can't remember how many years ago. He was an Industrial Mechanic from the lake that lived around the corner. He was having wings with his wife and young son and a so called tough guy gang bangers beat him to death in the hallway when he came to the defence of someone they were bullying. Art Rosenthal. I didn't work with him but it doesn't mater. I will not go there to celebrate anything. I wouldn't go to Dealey Plaza in Dallas to have a picnic either. I'm surprised it still is a bar. For anyone that frequents the place to have fun has no respect for a common good guy that lost his life there for nothing, including the owners. I do not wish them well. And if you frequent the place Kalvin and know the circumstances, I am surprised, no respect.
  20. I wouldn't care if the Holy Roman Church owns it I won't step foot in there again. Good luck to the new owners, bad investment. Time to move on, sorry.
  21. I don't think out Gov voted with OPEC to cut back oil production. However why we do not take advantage of the oil produced here is ridiculous. But it will just be taxed to the hilt as well as is the stuff coming out of the refinery down the road from me.
  22. I sure will try to make it. The Upper James location has bad memories. You local guys will know why.
  23. For the price of a few ounces of slaw at the Deli you can buy an entire cabbage a few aisles away.
  24. I think a few may be waiting for a time and place, like me. Or as many say " I would never join a club that would have me as a member".
  25. We use the Weather Rock here. It's never wrong.
