Well , I knew what I was getting into last night when I agreed to get out this morning with Sil and Berge.... I thought to myself " high of -3...hmmm that's not that bad. You've dealt with colder, in March so how bad could it be " ... I guess the first slush fest of the season is always the worst !!! We hit our first destination by about 7am. There was a good 2" layer of ice covering probably 80% of the pool with a solid slush run, flowing down the centre . Defenitely not fishable water.. Time to get to work. Spent a good hour breaking ice, and pushing the big ice sheets out of the pool.. Saw a few fish surface in the process, so it kept me going.. I guess this would be a good time to THANK everyone : Poly socks + marino wool is a life saving combo...the feet wouldn't have made it through the first hour without the new sock combo..Thanks guys !! Anyway , I did the best that I could clearing the pool of the ice but the slush still made it unfishable...We walked the stream for another hour or so waiting for the sun to peak over the hill. Finally by about 10AM we came back to some fishable water.... The cold temps has slowed down the fish quite a bit in the last few days , but there were still some fish to be plucked through the slush... Going on 2 hours sleep, I was still a little messed up from last nights , galavanting Buddy next to us was fishing with 2 beautifull LABS this morning....This little guy loved the taste off fish slime.. I couldn't get him to stop licking the chrome so I could take a pic....Sooo funny..... we all had a laugh I saw a possible drift, so I gave it a go without thinking about a landing spot... Thank God for Sil , who quickly smashed through a 6ft slab of shorline ice to make me a landing zone... I owe you one Sil !! This one was Sil's idea ...We dedicated it to Solo ....Sil your getting better with the camera every outing !! Hoping for some warmer temps next weekend.... Good buddy's make even some of the worst fishing conditions a good time, Thanks guys...

Wow Mike, Those hens on the Manistee are truly the cleanest steelhead I have yet to see.....The colors are amazing and so clean/crisp... Love the new movies additions lately.. LOL @ "lower the rod and just suck em right in "...must be quite an experience to fight steelhead with the pin from a boat deck..Got to book a trip one day.. AWESOME REPORT...I still had pics burned in to my head from the trip you made out there last year, and now this !!!

Help me out guys.... My feet freeze when I am out fishing this time of year, to a point where it forces me to stop fishing and walk around for 5-10 mins to warm them up again... I have tried thick socks , two pairs of socks, and even plastic bagging my feet before I put on my waders and nothing seems to keep them warm .... I know the whole feet warmer thing, but I am trying to figure out the best possible solution with socks that will keep me warm without having to spend money on the feet warmers every trip... Thanks Dave

I spoke with the Raven rep today and that he told me that he only runs Raven Main Line on his float reels (and never ever told anyone to purchase a different line). You caught me ....Cause there is only one raven Rep in all of Ontario, and he's your best fishing pal (insert huge sarcastic smiley face here) . The guy who said that to me is a raven field tech /rep who is also a member of this board....But you new that already I am sure ..thanks for calling your Raven Rep buddy and looking like a total idiot asking him such a question...LOL Not only that, but one of his customers landed a 54lbs Chinook in Alaska using Raven Main Line - and any line that can take that kind of abuse has to be awesome! ..... I can drag in a dead Chinny on Raven too I find it funny how things can get posted on the internet and be taken as the truth when it really boils down to a bunch of crap. I only speak the truth on this board, maybe with a little smack sometimes but , never do I lie..... Never did I say the Rep who told me is the know all of steelheading, but I took his word for it.... Take it as you will Nice CARP , thanks for coming out .....
