  1. Thanks again everyone! My goal for this year is to catch every sportfish in southern ontario (besides catfish) on the fly this year, might be a long shot but I think I can do it
  2. Just a couple Bill lol. I won't say which road exactly but it's about the size of the upper stretches of woodbine/Kennedy when they narrow to 2 lanes.
  3. I'm having trouble finding the law that states how much room around a roadway is public, if anyone has the link can you post it? Thanks!
  4. Thanks everyone! Will, that's my dad's work, he fished most of the day but at the end he was tired and just felt like shooting
  5. Just realized the second and third pics don't match up, the first of the 2 pics was on the bait rod, and the second was on the fly.
  6. Trout opener is a special day, it marks the start of spring and softwater fishing. The fish thought they had made it from the danger when they passed the exception limits, just sitting in the pools, unknowing that soon there would be an army of fishermen barreling down at them, throwing as much roe as they could eat passed their faces. Our day started at 4am, on the road by 4:30 and at the river by 5. The sun was still hiding behind the trees but there were already as many anglers as you could count on the river. My favourite pools had at least 20 anglers on them but the fish didn't care, 5 casts in and I landed just my second lifetime steelhead, measured 27" on the tape and put up one hell of a fight. After that the anglers flooded the pool and we decided it wasn't worth it to try and battle for casting room, we headed to the next river instead. The water was high and fast, a few people got fish but it was tough fishing overall, so we headed upstream to the spawning grounds. We found good numbers of fish, but they were easily spooked and casting room was at a premium. One person that we asked caught a fish, possibly because now the sun was high in the sky, so we broke for lunch to look at a map to decide where next. On the way back we met a very kind man who directed us to 2 spots, one was strictly fish watching as the property was private, the other turned out to be heaven. But first, here's the view on the no fishing pool Viewing pool Once we had enough of that (took a while) we headed to the second spot, this is by far the most fish I've ever seen in one spot, so instead of bait fishing I pulled out the fly rod. Started by nymphing pocket water with wooly buggers, maggots and stoneflies, got a few takes but couldn't land any of them. So I switched to leeches and spey flies and swung them in slower water. It was easy to see the fish, and if you made a good cast easy to catch too. This was the first of the evening. Should've taken the stupid hat off! and the second fish And the third Finished roughly 4 for 10, had at least 30 takes that I missed, I'm hooked!
  7. Lynde marsh usually has good numbers of bullhead when they're at their peak, and there are most likely fish in lynde, but it's possible you spooked them if you weren't being careful.
  8. by now you should see some showing up, once they're up they'll be up all night
  9. Like others have said wait for a rainy day and go out about an hour after dark, a good tip that someone posted about a month ago was to stretch a red plastic bag over your flashlight using an elastic, the worms aren't as sensitive to the red light. Good luck! And here's rich's tip on steroids in action
  10. found a tonne of those iridescent back feathers today on the river, but I'd still like some of those tail feathers
  11. Cool little fish, and great scenery!
  12. I always use minnows, but I also like using a shrimp style fly about 1 foot above the minnow, as far as I can tell it helps with the finicky fish.
  13. Nope, but if anyone gets one ill gladly take all the feathers off you, pm if you have
  14. Yup, the baitfish are still young, once fall comes they are big
  15. Great fish there Andrew! Now go get a few on those flies
  16. Thanks, I tried a small deer hair popper last night, got 2 strikes before it got caught in a tree and I lost it, that was the only one I had on me...
  17. LOL, I tried to get some sort of permit like that last year, apparently they don't exist lol!
  18. it depends on the water for me, not the fish, on small creeks I just use a tippet like you, but on bigger water like the humber you want a leader.
  19. Simcoe perch, 12.5" First pike of the season first carp of the year first koi this year PB crappie Broke that PB last 2 days later (yesterday) on the fly rod, on a size 12 fly
  20. Good luck, they are on fire south of simcoe! 20 fish on the fly in an hour
  21. How does it feel to outfish 3 bait fishermen (combined) with the fly rod for crappie? Pretty good!
