  1. We were using slow retrieves as well on ours today and it seemed to be working - couple twitches and pauses seemed to work. Might have to try that cleo and tail idea Muskieman, won a few cleos at the Fishing for Tyler event and they haven't been wet yet. Also only one treble to embed in my finger
  2. Ouch, Green you sir are more man that I Funny thing is that I kept trying to back it out and never thought of pushing it through. of course I'd have still been screwed since we didn't have anything to cut it with (my cutters are now in my tackle bag - wont make that mistake twice)
  3. Yep 007 thats it exactly - those little ones are scrappers. I should have seen it coming the way it kept flipping itself out of the water when Patrick was bringing him in. Ah well, glad to know I'm in good company - who's turn is it next year then? So far the finger isnt too sore but Clampet your probably right about it starting to hurt tomorrow (lots of drugs around here somewhere) but so far its just the shoulder they gave me the tetanus shot in thats sore (what the hell is in that anyways, hurts to lift my damn arm).
  4. Nice job, certainly looks like the season is heating up
  5. yep, I'll definitely be more careful. It was a classic 'I've been nicked by the hooks a 100 times, its never a big deal' and then one time it is . Luckily no major damage and the feeling is coming back already but yep - take care everyone or you'll waste your afternoon too Funny things is that the doc thanked me for giving him a chance to do a hook as he hasn't done one since he use to work hospitals up north, guess I was glad to help
  6. First excuse any typos, you'll undertand later. So on with the report (hopefully I can post it, the boards crawling again). PatrickG and I hooked up this morning and headed off to Center Island on the 10am boat. At the water the official was waiting to make sure everything was on the up and up: <a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/198/485480310_5cb490a134.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="The officials" /></a> It wasn't too long before we saw another fisherman pull one in it turns out hes an OFNer from the old board whos name I forget (sorry). There were quite a few other anglers around but except for one guy plopping right beside me and casting over my line it wasn't overly crowded. Anyhow, not to long later: <a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/222/485512923_f950b42669.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Patrick starting the day right" /></a> Hooray, we're in the game, unfortunately next cast Patricks lucky crankbait comes off the line, not to be defeated: <a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/197/485480528_4a7a8d5f4b.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Where's my lure" /></a> But it wasn't meant to be. Ah well, back to fishing we went, had a few decent follows and as you can see it was a beautiful day: <a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/223/485480630_44e6c61706.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Toronto Urban Fishing" /></a> So all is well in the world right? Hows that for a setup . Around 1ish Patrick landed another 15"er but the fish had managed to get the hooks pretty messed up. So as I'm trying to pry its mouth open so Patrick can get in some spreaders the "docile" pike dives in the air, twists and comes unhooked. Unfortunately during that little tussle I felt this prick and then some pressure and some torque and sure enough . . . . . <a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/179/485512615_2eacc6d086.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Please be careful when fishing" /></a> Son of a b****! Honestly I was more upset at myself, we screwed up that 'unhooking' badly and I got what I deserved. We tried getting it out but the barb was in too deep. I gotta say, I now have a lot more understanding for the guys that promote barbless hooks. Also for guys who wear gloves and guys who know that crankbaits and jumpy fish require your full attention. Anyhow, we headed to the first aid station on the island which has nothing but bandages and ice bags. Sigh - the fishing day was over Back to my car and Patrick drove to St. Joe's where I got to watch the hook be pushed the rest of the way through and then out of my finger (after a local of course) - very weird to watch the hook come out your finger but not feel it. Then it was off to see a nurse for a tetnis shot and we were done. (kudos to st. joes - 2 hours in and out and friendly all the way, course wasn't busy so I got lucky) What upset me the most is that the action was just getting good, I look forward to reading everyone elses reports and Patrick: thanks a bunch for being a standup guy there, I owe you a treble and a full day of fishing. Hell if my finger feels up to it I might just be back there tommorow so if you see someone doing a lot of one handed casts come on over and say hi PS: typing without your middle finger is a serious pain
  7. Oh man that looks good - especially after just finishing some nuked mystery meat . Nothing like a little time by the water to relieve the stress, nice job. Gonna have to do spend some time finding shore spots myself I think (or break down and buy a canoe/kayak)
  8. 2 set of batteries for the camera all charged and ready and I even picked up some new shades to avoid last trips "pitch it in front of the school there", "where?", "there - theres a dozen bluegill right there in front on you", "really?", "well not now, dude by some glasses with a decent tint" . Oh and yeah, pike gear packed and ready. Plus raptors up at the half, could be a good start to the weekend, hope to see some other OFNers out there - come by and say hi.
  9. Great photos and nice job on the bowfin, should be interesting tommorow.
  10. Yep fast at home now too (was bad here even when it was good from work). Nice job yelling at 'em Rick
  11. Yup, its so slow now that I'm considering doing work at the office before noon - save us Rick!
  12. Those are some great action shots. Nice job.
  13. Nice job guys, looks like a perfect couple days to me. Gonna have to get up that way sometime (never fished georgian bay).
  14. A buddy of mine who works for MPAC is up for the job this summer of checking out to a bunch of these style properties from Thunder Bay to Dryden(ish) for just what grt1 mentioned. Plus side is he gets a big truck, a boat and access to planes when needed and was told he wouldn't get the job if he couldn't produce fishing gear to go bring with him (yeah I'm jealous). Down side is that there's gonna be a lot of folks not very happy to see him, they have to do the assessments in pairs and check in at regular intervals - there's some crazy hermits on some of those lakes that will be damned if they're gonna pay for that new lodge they just built themselves and they won't take kindly to strangers trying to measure their land (especially the ones who decided crown land in the middle of nowhere was fine land to build a little shack on)
  15. Was a pleasure to be there for the maiden voyage (oh yeah - that beats ice fishing) its just too bad neither of us actually took a picture of the boat. She's a great setup and Lexx has done a really good job tweaking it out. Joey your exactly right - after we realized getting big ones wasn't going to be hard the criteria quickly became - "do I want to clean this one" before tossing them in the live well or back in the lake. And 'the first mate' was probably the best fisherman in the boat, we had to sometimes trick her to get looking away while we put fish in the live well or else she'd have been full of perch sushi.
  16. Damn Jedi thats a great pic - that camera mount worked really well. I gotta get me a yak, that sounds like a lot of fun.
  17. Was out there as well helping Lexxington test drive his new boat (basically I was there to take the blame if it caught fire, exploded and sank to the bottom of the lake). Certainly was a parking lot but the fishing wasn't bad - non stop lunkers like this guy <a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/177/469054295_900f3fcb32.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="The big one" /></a> And then of course the worlds greatest sport fish made an appearance <a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/207/469041962_fcad65cd43.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Thats not a perch" /></a> In between we managed to do a pretty good job filling the new live well with some real keepers (and a few jumbos even). In fact I just finished eating mine mmmmm good perch. Oh and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the first mate. Man does this dog like fishing <a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/185/469054631_d1a77f4888_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="This dog loves to fish" /></a> No tagded perch though, guess I'm gonna have to pay for my gear after all
  18. Here you go Chuck Swirski - all the details you'd ever need on his saying and more
  19. Has anyone rented a canoe on Scugog before and can tell me where they got it from? I'd love a lazy day of floating around looking for crappies (I've never fished them before or even been to Scugog) but I don't think there's a lot of shore spots (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) so rental it is. Or of course if anyone is looking for someone to split gas and confirm your stories about the record slabs you caught I'm your man.
  20. Wow what a great sounding trip, thanks for sharing.
  21. Thanks for the laughs TJ, I'm sure no one here has ever experienced anything like that ... by the way if anyone finds an anchor without any rope attached at the bottom of Lac des Milles lac (near pine point) it definitely was NOT me tossing something that wasn't tied first
  22. I saw this when browsing a Cabelas sale last week: Waston's Baby Duck Guess this post shows it would work.
  23. You can always pop up to the Island lake (sometimes known as Orangeville reservoir). Its just a few minutes north of you and you can fish from shore or, better, rent a boat/canoe. No monsters or anything but pike, bass and loads of perch and sunfish. edit: here's some pics from island lake last summer: Island Lake Photos
  24. Oh sure I go and drop a wad at BPS yesterday on similar baits and NOW you tell me about this . Hehe guess I can always use some more (I'm so weak), thanks for the note!
  25. You guys can have all of these that you want
