You pay on your way in - $4.25. You get all the info you need here: http://www.creditvalleycons.com/recandleisure/islandlake.htm I've caught pike from the shore but only one (the shoreline isn't 100% accessible so you only have a few spots to try from without a boat)

Great stuff Moosebunk - beautiful photos and great story to go with them.

Cool thanks Golfisher, I'll try to make it up one of the days this weekend and make the call on canoe vs motor based on the wind (or just go real cheap and hit the shore spots). Got some bass there last year but only a couple: <a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/93/233192403_b138e23a71.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Surprise bass" /></a>

Wow looks like I'm trying to squish the guts outta that pike there (must be in reponse to last weeks hook in the hand incident). Anyhow, both Mike and Brian were great guys, loads of fun to fish with. I was starting to wonder when Mike's head was gonna pop off - at one point we ran into what I can only call 'beat boys' who had a little tackle box with mister twisters on their line a trout net they must have taken from their parents. Their entire conversation consisted of 'Yo DAWG! Look at that fish. F**K Dawg how'd you catch that!' and so on. Then Brian tells the kid to swap the mister twister for a little cleo he had in the box and sure enough next cast he catches a little pike with Mike standing not 10 feet away (working on hour 4 of skunk-a-thon). I swear he was gonna toss the kid in the lake Anyhow, I bet the moustache was the problem all along but if you don't get anything this weekend give me a shout and we'll hit the islands again (or anywhere else, I'm open to trying anything new) Speaking of 'anything new' Here's the bowfin Brian caught, weird fish. <a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/219/495251607_a08c397eb9_b.jpg" width="768" height="1024" alt="Brians Bowfin" /></a> PS: Anytime anyones doing ANY fishing in the GTAish area and wants some company I'm always up for it including incurring whatever costs are required - Cliff anytime you and Bly want to try the islands just let me know (after being there 3 times I still barely know what I'm doing but I'm always willing to share what little I do know).

Hey Golfisher, thanks for the report (and thanks for the map Mike). I was out there a few times last year and was thinking of driving up this weekend - did they have the rental canoes out when you were there? I have a couple shore spots but I could use the exercise of paddling around a bit
-
Congrats Victor, great job
-
After seeing your carp and walleye reports cliff I can just imagine what you and Bly would pull off for Pike And BitSmith - I thought you were gonna toss that kid in when he pulled in that pike on his first cast with the cleo (the fact that this kids entire vocabulary consisted of 'YO DOG!' made it even worse/funnier)

Nice fish egh. We were at that spot Saturday and pulled in a couple but nothing nearly as nice as that. Wasn't many people out Saturday either. I doubt we saw more than 5 or 6 other guys fishing not including a group of 4 kids with a trout net and a bunch of mr twisters screwing around though they landed one after switching to a little cleo based on advice from one of us (much to the chagrin of a certain board member who's name I'll protect as he's still trying to break his t.o. island pike cherry )

Wow what a wonderful sounding trip even if the fishing was a bit off. One of these days I've gotta convince some friends that its worth the trip.

Second piking adventure...success (with a sweet surprise)!

Wow thats one big bowfin. Sounds like a perfect afternoon to me. -
Guess I gotta get my new gear ready then <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/emosworld/492991350/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/193/492991350_5c19caf82e_o.png" width="825" height="480" alt="newislandfishing" /></a> (ok so I'm not much of a photoshopper )

Wow what a great job for all those firsts (as ehg already said). Seemed to be all about the same size from the pics and that seems to be about the average with the odd monster here and there based on the recent reports. Last weekend the small ones seemed to be putting up a decent fight to me - lots of flipping in the water (and on land but we've all seen that story - healed nicely now thank you). I think you've convinced me to try out my baitcaster though - its been gathering dust as I don't want to drag out two rods and find out I can't use the damn thing. Maybe this is the weekend to learn Thanks for the report.

Nice Pike, wonder how busy its gonna be there this weekend? Guess there's only one way to find out
-
Yeah I remember you guys Ron - there were a few boating anglers out last weekend and it sure sounds like it paid off (not that I'm jealous - bastages - nope, not at all ) but I can just imagine the pain it was getting the boat down there with no DVP (was enough trouble just getting my car down there and back up).

Its a tough one; for example what if the report states "I went over the bridge just past xxx town and hung a right and went by that old dock and caught non stop 30 inch+ pike." then has a picture of a big fish. Hiding the picture won't help. If I recall the post that started this was a 'friend' being taken to a site who then ruined the site - didn't start with a picture here at all. I totally understand the blurring of pictures to hide sites but I've learned more about locations from this site from descriptions then from pictures (being new to the GTA fishing scene I don't recognize landmarks but I can google place names and learn from the rest of the description). Anyhow, I have no problem with blurring photos to hide locations or making people sign up to see them (besides which more users = more advertising fees for the site = less slow loading days) but I don't think thats the only problem, people writing reports (AND PLEASE DON'T STOP WRITING THEM - WE LOVE THEM) just need to take the whole report into consideration if its a spot they'd like to keep to themselves.

Was great to meet you out there RJ, we tried to find your lure holding pike but had our own lure problems

Here's all the ferry info: http://www.toronto.ca/parks/island/springschedule.htm (note that it changes may 26 to the summer schedule)

Nice job ehg, the jerkbaits seemed to be working well all around.

Haha Cliff thats classic but I think its the opposite: I've been out with Patrick 3 times - 1st time I got my PB pike and he got skunked (on the islands just before end of season back in march), then 2 weeks ago we headed down the Niagara way and we wasted an hour because I locked my keys in the car (with the gear inside) then this week I go and cut our day short by impaling myself - I'm beginning to think I'm cursed Actually I picked up some new trebles and replacement x-rap for Patrick (if you read Patrick this don't buy one!) - least I could do for his help. Next week it'll be revenge time!
-
Nice report Jen and congrats!
-
Great job, thanks for the report!

You hit it on the head jigger - it was just that size of a fish where anywhere you held it your hand was withing treble reach. Luckily no nerves hit or anything like that, have to watch the wound for infection so i figured I'd skip fishing today - pretty sure slimy pike and toronto harbour water isn't exactly what I need covering it . Thanks for the kind words everyone and be careful out there (I actually have a glove and it was in my bag but my bag wasn't near the fish and hey - I never needed the glove before right?)
-
Holy crap your right wigman, sorry about not recognizing you right off (kinda distracted at the time hehe). Congrats again.

Haha, yeah that would work (and growing up thats the way the little snot rockets were treated). The larger ones like in my profile pic are fine (under the gills) or for a bit smaller you can squeeze down behind the eyes (on the gills kinda - look at the last pick in patricks signature) assuming you can put your hand around its neck; I wouldn't suggest lipping them thought . This one was just a couple pounds and made us 'lazy' when handling it and frankly we were both trying to get the hooks out at the same time (it was hooked under the mouth in a weird and ugly way) so 4 hands, extra hooks and a small fish coupled with their slime factor and the the back treble hanging loose is what got me - had nothing to do with how to hold them in this case, just my own stupidity. Just one of those things but does make me wonder if there's a market for an easy to use 'wrapper' you could drop on the exposed trebles to cover them while you worked on the embeded one. Ah well, live and learn - maybe I should try crappies next - anyone got any ideas on shore sports for 'em?

Nicely done and congrats on the Personal Best!
