Well, I have a big tournament on Great Sacandaga Lake in New York in mid-July, and seeing as their bass season officially opened on Saturday, we had to make a trip down. The lakes is situated in the Adironack Mountain range about a 7 hour drive from Toronto. We launched at about 5:20 and headed out to fish blindly, must have been alright because I had a fish in 5 minutes. Ended up landing 23 keepers (12 inches +) today and might have had about 11 pounds for our biggest 5 fish. We watched two local weigh-ins from other club tournaments, and to our surprise on 10.10 pounds won the first and 11.2 won the second. Apparently 12 or 13 pounds is BIG weight for this lake as it is better known for numbers than size. Big fish for the weekend that we saw was 2-14, I had a 2-11. Sunday was slow as a big front had come through but in 5 hours, we managed 11 keepers for about 9 pounds. Then reality hit and we had to come home. Would have posted sooner, but I have not been feeling well. Good Fishin'

June 11th Brookie Report *PICS*

Well I apologize to those who were offended by my choice to keep a few fish. This week in total, I have fished 10 different creeks, caught and released over 100 fish and kept 12, all of which have been consumed. all fish kept were in the 8-10 inch range, with 3 exceptions due to hooks being swallowed. Majority of my larger fish were released as I realize the need for the 'gene pool'. Limits are in place for a reason, and those who know me know that I release 99% of my fish, opting to keep a few trout, perch and crappie a couple times a year. As far as the Sir Kill-A-Lot comment goes, I guess you're jealous that you're not catching them, seems most of your previous started topics are about that striped mammal that stinks about as much as you do at float fishing Read all of my prior posts, and see how man yfish I keep, I opt to keep some fish a few times and I get jumped on, I guess I wont post next time bowshep. I'm just trying to share my experience with the rest, and hear from other people as well, for those that enjoy my posts, thank you and keep reading, for the few that are offened by the fish I have kept this season, dont read my posts I guess... Brookster, to be honest with you I'm not sure. I'm pickin up a topo map this weekend and I'll have a look. Bucktail, I have kept a few fish over the past week, however they have been from various streams, hopefully not hurting anything, I have never heard the 1 fish per mile rule before but I will keep it in mind. This is the first week Ive been brookie fishing in a few years, guess I got a little excited, but I still kept within my legal limits, my bad. -

its full time work ,which I couldnt find up here for the summer, plus incentives (big bonus for an avid fisherman) and a cheap carpool system. Work the 5am - 2pm shift, so I have all weekends and afternoons off to fish, not a bad deal. -

Lake Rosseau pike fishing today
steverowbotham replied to steverowbotham's topic in General Discussion
FHR, 138 inches is still a good average... how'd you get em to hit, haha. Saw a big musky too, she followed up a big swimbait. I was very impressed, I have driven many hours into Quebec and never seen pike like I saw on Rosseau, it was insane. -
After my recent success finding some brookies in my area, I decided to scout out a few more creeks. Got off work at 2:30, and back into Barrie by 3:30. Tried a new creek, and was gone in an hour with my limit and many released fish. If I can find the cable for my phone or if anyone knows how to upload pics from my phone without a cable, I will send pics of my released fish, one of which was 13 inches. Kept five for the pan ... 2 nice ones, 3 average ones. Released my biggest, a 13, as well as about a dozen between 6-10 inches. Bass opens in a couple weeks and the brookies will be safe til next year!! Thanks for reading .. SR

Lake Rosseau pike fishing today

i know it was insane ... I've been fishing Cooch where a 34 incher is a big fish .... 30 inches is good. I'd heard there are big fish up on Rosseau and we got into some 10-20 pounders a couple weeks ago, 42 inches was our biggest. Not a lot of them in there, but they are BIG!! -

Just figured you should have a look at the deliciousness I enjoyed last evening along with some fried garlic potatoes..... mmmmmm -
Kelli and I headed up to Port Sandfield on Lake Rosseau this morning in search of some big old toothy critters, and we found them! Just couldnt get them to bite haha. Saw 8 pike all day, every one was 40+ inches, not a single small pike in that lake I tell ya. Throwing big Storm Kickin Shad swimbaits generated lots of interest, and repeat followers, but no takers. I eventually convinced a 15+ pounder to take a #12 X-Rap but she shook free, and dont ask how, because I dont know either. Lots of OOS smallies on the big swimbaits and X-Raps, but no pike today, I guess that counts as my first skunk of the year as no target species were caught. Ah well, happens to all of us .... cant wait to get back up there, there are some PIGS in that lake!!! SR

last one was caught last ... my post is wrong, but I'm too lazy to edit it ... caught them in 1hr 45 mins .... not 45 mins. first 4 I got quickly .... then I released a bunch of 10-11 inchers before calling it quits and keeping that smaller one... Brian, if you still have any info to share, I'll gladly take it. -

haha you bet, no more driving 2 hours for opener, I'm staying here haha. -
Well last night I posted about fishing for brook trout in Barrie, no one responded, since I rarely fish for trout, and definitely never around here, I was on my own. I started driving and stopped at a nice looking creek ... drift, drift, drift nothing. Headed to a new spot drift, drift, FISH! then a few more drifts and a fish. Caught 12 in 45 minutes and went home. I kept 5 for the pan because my desire to fish for brookies was fueled by my desire to eat some as I never got out for opener this year. I kept one duker 14 incher because it wouldnt stop bleeding, nothing compared to the 16 incher I landed right after her! the 16er was released. I'll come back on later and let you all know how they taste

With a pike tournament coming up this weekend, Sparrow Lake hosted by the Barrie Bassmasters. I thought it would be a good idea to get out and scout after work this afternoon. Sparrow does not have many big pike and would anticipate 15 pounds to win it for a 3 fish limit. That being said, in 3.5 hours we caught about a dozen, and left every spot after 2 fish (followers or takers). Got lots of fish, but none really bigger than 3-4 pounds. Seeing as it was a tournament pre-fish, I will not reveal much information, but after the weekend, I may update the post. P.S. My girlfriend kicked my ass!! 5 minutes into the day! Kelli's first of the day The girl is on fire! Another nice one Kelli with yet another Kelli with another I got the last one of the day.
