  1. Cal and I got back out to Simcoe, and brought my little cousin Brent along this time. Being so calm today, the main lake was open to fish and we werent so restricted to the north end. We all started dragging tubes, and Brent picked up his first Simcoe smallie, about a 4 pounder. We got onto some good fish in deep water, 32-42 feet fishing breaklines on a mid lake shoal. Most came on tubes and jigging spoons. Brent with his first Simcoe experience. Me and my cousin show some off Cal, the spoon master.

  13. Alright, I havent posted for about a week, but it doesnt mean I havent been out. Last Sunday, the Barrie Bassmasters held an open tournament on Balsam Lake. We had 54 boats turn out, which is the best yet, I hope it keeps growing. I was lucky enough to have my old man come up for the weekend to fish with me, and although it was a tough day, we still managed 12.40 pounds for 15th place. No money this time, but it was great to see him again, and have him catch some fish as he's only been out one other time this season (We placed 5th in a pike tournament on Cooch). On Tuesday, my class (3rd year Fish and Wildlife at Fleming College), went down to the Credit River to assist the MNR, OFAH and Ringwood Hatchery with Chinook egg collection. It was fun, and we were able to collect almost 30 pairs in the one day we assisted, thats a lot of eggs, hopefully they turn out well, I can add photos later On Saturday we waited out the storms and got out onto Simcoe for 3 hours before more storms headed in. We caught one toad, and a bunch of 3-4 pounders, mostly on tubes and dropshots. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed.
  14. fall?? its 28 degrees outside. haha welcome to the board
  15. I was on Six Mile on Thanksgiving weekend last year and slaughtered them. GET BACK OUT!! haha
  16. St. Clair has some nice fish, but how often do you see 20 pound bags out of St. Clair ?? Occasionally, but a 20 pound bag will win you the tournament there. A 20 pound bag on Simcoe will put you in about 20th place. The reason is simple... forage. St. Clair smallies eat up the perch. Simcoe is deeper and is home to oilier, fatty based forage such as herring, baby whities. Of course they will eat perch, but they have access to these fatty based fish which help them bulk up. Couchiching and Simcoe are attached, but Simcoe smallies are way bigger on average, for the same reason. Forage on Cooch is mostly perch, crayfish and blackchin shiners, no real fat to those fish. Next record will be on Simcoe. Mark my words.
  17. nice fish dude, that one is a cow
  18. nicely done man, looks like a helluva good vacation.
  19. He spends ENOUGH Time out there, I would hope he does well. Haha good job Greg!!
  20. Nice fish, keep at it buddy, you'll find the bigger schools. It's a tough lake to figure out, and when you think you have, it'll throw you a curveball. Spend some time out there, you'll be glad you did.
  21. Thanks CCMT I try to keep them interesting, otherwise why post? haha I'm doing Chinook egg collection tomorrow with Fleming College and the MNR, I should have some good pics from that.
  22. those big fish need to go back anyways ... keep em between 8-12 inches .... more or less, throw em back. That my rule at least.
  23. I have called the MNR tips line many times for poaching and illegal fishing (one man of asian decent fishing by himself with 6 lines in the water at the lindsay locks), and had the MNR NOT show up a single time. The blame does not fall only on Asians though... I have seen Asians, Whites, Blacks every race has poachers but people feel its easier to place the blame on Asians. Do I agree? Not necessarily. Regardless of race, poachers need to be punished.
