  1. I see there are suspension mods. Was it originally torsion bar? Worked for chrysler when younger and a mechanic friend of mine had a Duster 440, traction was always a problem but it sizzled on the highway. Challengers were hard to find new back then. Seems after Vanishing Point came out in the theatres the cars could'nt be made fast enough in the sense of availability. I liked the old Charger and Super Bee too.
  2. They say, on average a legal Musky is landed after about 200 hours of angling for them. I've caught two, twenty minutes apart (they generally travel in pairs), that were both obviously undersize and out of season and released, I was trolling for walleye. Anyway, after twenty or more years, that's the only muskies Iv'e caught. If you know that pike and musky are in the lake your fishing and you know where the pike are, look on the opposite side of the lake for musky. Musky spend the day cruising there territory while pike have small areas they consider their-own. Pike spawning happens earlier than musky, so the fingerlings will be of large enough size that when musking spawn, pike fingerlings tend to eat the eggs. Therefore both species stay away from each other to the extreme. Pike of course are in the lillypads/weed and musky live in the slots or holes usually. People I know, itcluding a guy who caught a 47 lb musky in Moon River that I'd seen, used a huge dark suick (it sorta immitates a wounded fish and has to be strak fished). It destroyed his hard-rod/Penn LW 209 reel.
  3. A couple of fishing budys and I once had the chance to fish Moon River. When we arrived, the man in charge of the marina said there was a man down on the docks with the local press about to take a picture of a possible record breaker--Musky. Of course we ran down to see the fish and it was huge. He had trouble holding the fish up past his waiste (chained) for the picture. If I remember correctly, it rang in at forty-seven pounds. It's eyes were deep black and as big as ours. He caught it top water trolling using large suick, dark in color with an orange belly Near the boat he said it broke water, breaking his rod (and it sure was shattered mid-point) and had to complete the catch with just the reel and reel mount are of what rod he had left. See: http://bigwoodmuskylures.com/lures.php?cat=jerkbaits&make=Suick Needless to say, we were there for three days and camped on an island--no one would go in the water after seeing that monster, lol. Anyway, I, having caught only two 6 lb (20 min apart(immediately released)) muskies in all the years I fished, my goal is to catch a monster this year. I think I will use top running musky spinners or perhaps a suick? Probably fishing Buckhorn or Pidgeon lakes?
  4. Very interesting thread, I'd like clarification too. Just sent the question/concern to MNR. S/be about 15 days before receiving a response from them.
  5. Dunno, but me finding the fish is half the adventure so personally, I would shy-away from using a guide. I know that in 1980 or /81, Bob Izummi was skunked (no walleye catches) at the Trenton tourny. It happens to everyone-lol.
  6. Won't be fishing LO this year but have fished it many times in past. Best catch was 27lb Salmon. Iv'e twice came across that deep depression off shore near Port Credit so it does exist. Water depth jumped from 45' to 180' poof!--just like that and my fish finder screen immediately picked up activity at about the 110' mark. Seems as quick as you hit the depression, it's gone. One true marker I noticed before hitting it was a severe dirt/debris line on the top water. It's not the usual mile or more off-shore, it's maybe 1/4 mile, I'm sure it's some type of unusual hole or depression?
  7. Wondering if resetting the lakes and waterways these monsters are inhabiting might be prudent, if the asian carp breeding infestation cannot be rapidly handled genetically? Realize it's a horrendous thought but it's been a horrendous problem that will lead to the death of existing waterlife food chain, with only the AC left. AC are killing-off aquatics making oxygen (EDIT): UNavailable for and needed by other marine life to survive.
  8. Here yah.Thirty years ago I had problems with Michell (parts falling off), Shimano(gear problems) and Garcia(both the latter) spinning reels. Then changed to Daiwa, two of which I gave to my Son, and the new easy-cast graphite model bought in /85, still being used today without any troubles.
  9. Depends on what I'm fishing for of course, but for bass--a wobble frog or green spinner baited with a slashed minnow. I generally don't do a lot of largemouth bass fishing unless I'm throwing them back (too many parasites--lol). Generally, I fish walleye, smallmouth, pike and musky. Stream fishing for trout, I have never used anything other than a Panther Martin with yellow body orange dotted w/a #3 trebble hook tri-sharpened. The best stream trout lure I have ever used. I'd be quite interested in any tips you could give re jig types and jigging techniques? I'm awfull at jigging and would like to learn how to actaully catch something using a jig.
  10. Used to go to Trent Derby there each year on opening walleye season--midnight. Though many used a small minnow on an orange jig with success, I used pretty-much the same rig I used there for years. Walleye, Pike (I was told no pike there (sandy bottom), but there was as I caught one). I used twin 1/2" tear drop Florescent Orange spinners on a 3" lead. Capped with a #3 or 4 tri-sharpened hook and either a minnow, live worm (injected) or leach. Two-to four feet back 1/8 ounce weight. Then drifted and let it lay on the bottom keeping the line taught. Since there was always a group of us, I know from my fishin buds lack of results and their Not using the Flor Orange spinners, the spinners are necessary and will increase the catch 2-3 fold. The colder the water or front, the slower the presentation and retrieve.
  11. Why not play it safe. If you decide to use ss bolts and washers, you might consider insulating the contact points with rubber, rubber tubing or perhaps first marine--epoxy insulate around the holes, both sides and inside, then drill through the eg epoxy as not to make contact with the alluminum. Run two ss bolts, washers and rubber washer so the rubber-only, is making contact with the hole area of hull. (Bolt side thread top: SS Washer--Rubber. Nut side: Rubber--SS Washer--SS Lock Nut.) Then it's a tough, water tight and no mis-matched metals would be making contact.
  12. Seems to me, you may want to stay away from metal screw/bolts that will will react in contact with alluminum. What does this mean for aluminum? Galvanic corrosion is the most common cause of aluminum corrosion due to its inherent resistance to more natural forms of corrosion and a lack of preventative measures taken. 13. I'm about to fish the area this year. Not opened my new Lake Erie maps yet, but I'm pretty-sure the Mohawk area is included. Things can get rough out there fast, so my primary concern was where all the breakwall mooring areas are located. Jjust bought a SeaMax Inflatable Oceon 380 (my first inflatable) so first time-out and knowing it's limits is nothing I would chance without knowing where the closest breakwalls are. My last boat was a forteen foot w/40 Merc, never a problem with lake water conditions, except once in Lake Ontario about a mile and half out -- weather change. Good thing I read a book on how to manage 6' waves in a possible swamping condition to get back to slack water.
  14. Iv'e been using the Penn 209 for years and it's a bull-stud, no nonsense reel. Took months and mega-back lashes before it taught me how to cast with-it packed w/30 lb, 30 feet. Oil it and back-off the clutch each fall and it's ready to use the next year. Penn makes great reels.
  15. Once used an Abu Garcia reel, that was so long ago they came in a plastic and carboard stretch wrap thing with a a rod. Used it for a couple of years then gave it to my Son. Cheap and well made. For the last 25 yrs, I have been using the same two reels, Daiwa SGA1355 SR and a Penn 209 for large game fish.
  16. Just purchased a Minn Kota C-2-50 Trolling Motor that comes with a free Minn Kota Charger and fifty dollar mail-in rebate for cheap. 189.00. Been looking for the best deal for months, I'm not sure a better deal can be found.

    Paypal ????

I've been using Paypal for about five years now without any problems. I'm noticing more and more retail stores are accepting PP and that's a good thing. As your not giving out your credit card info on line and have the option w/PP of setting up your account that you may select either paying from your bank account or credit card and PP takes care of the payment securely for you.
  18. Hi all, I had only recently joined the Fish Hawk site and was surprised to see it taken off line. Thanks for the info on it Overcast.
