  1. Well I finally found the perfect boat for myself. 14ft mirrocraft complete with everything including a Lowrance fish finder and trolling motor Nothing near as nice as some of you other fellas have but it's all I need and could afford on my old age Gov. pension. It's been very well taken care of. He even keeps the trailer up on jack stands with the tires off the floor when he's not using it. Has every thing I need and is ready for the water. Besides I needed one to put my Helix 7 on I bought a couple years ago. Yeah, I put the carriage ahead of the horse Haha. I had a nice 16ft vanguard vip with a rebuild 60hp mariner. A few years ago someone cut the lock off and stole it from right behind the house. Hope I haven't bored ya's all half to death. I'm just excited to have another one.

  2. Ahh...I think I know what happened... I "liked" your post about the new boat. You probably got an email saying that I "reacted to your post". Doesn't mean that I actually posted something. It just means that little "blue heart" symbol appears at the bottom of your post. No worries about being computer literate...I'm an old fart too..

  3. Hi I would suggest if this is an engine you want to be good and reliable, that this is the time to bite the bullet and spend some money to get it into the best possible operating condition. You can replace the oiling system with new components so it will operate like new and be serviceable for many years or you could remove the oil injection system completely, and then mix your fuel with a high quality TCW-3 2 stroke oil. Given the age of the engine one or the other will be necessary. Before spending any money you should do a compression test to confirm that the engine is in good condition internally. As Crowman mentioned overheating is bad news, so it is most important to replace the water pump (I recommend every 2 years on these engines) check/test/replace the poppet valve and thermostat, cooling on these is critical and you don't want to destroy the engine due to overheating. Other items include possibly cleaning and rebuilding carburetors, replace fuel filter, install new spark plugs, replace the fuel lines with new ethanol compliant lines, change the lower unit oil and pressure test, check the condition of the plug wires and replace if needed, inspect all wiring for exposed terminals, chaffing etc. Make sure you have a good battery. It is very important to make sure that your RPM are in the proper range at WOT with a good quality prop in good condition. The boat should have a normal load in it for testing purposes. I believe you want the WOT RPM to be between 5000 and 5500 RPM. If you are not comfortable working on an engine like this then you should take it to good reputable mechanic. Hope this helps.

  4. Had a 1998 Johnson oil injection failed, had it removed and just mixed the gas and the motor ran better than before. Cost about $50 mechanic fees.

  6. Thanks very much Spiel I appreciate it. I've been watching Kijiji very closely for a couple years now for a practical boat. I came across this one in the most unusual way. I was driving through a residential neighborhood and on a front lawn was a sign - boat for sale. I'm thinking what the ....'s up with that. He could have at least put the boat on the drive way. But there was just something about it so I went back. He took me into his garage and there it was. He's always kept it inside when he isn't using it. After some haggling I got it for two thousand bucks and all the goodies included. It was a no brainer. The Evinrude is a 9.9hp.

  8. I really don't know at this time Fisherman. I don't actually pick it up until tomorrow or Sunday. My biggest concern is the speed or revolutions those small wheels spin in regards to the bearings. It has buddy bearings that he greases every spring and has done so for me to tow it home here which is a three hour drive on the highway But I will be putting bigger tires on it for sure. They should be coming on sale pretty quick. Thank you very much.

  9. "Any known issues with these engines?" 3 cylinder 2-stoke Merc's have a history of the top cylinder not getting enough cooling, and therefore the head cracking around the sparkplug. I blew one up myself back in the early '90's.
