Barry Willis Posted August 2 Report Posted August 2 Nothing special, just a few cool and interesting cloud formations. First two, not far from Juneau Alaska. Man it rains a lot up there. Puffy cumulus clouds. Early morning fog bank looking east of Calgary. Mammatus clouds, which are there more often than we realize as the sun has to be low on the horizon to shine on the under side of them in order to see them. They usually occur after a rain. First picture of them I managed to capture Hawks, one of our police helicopters looking for bad guys, so I had to get the He&$ in the house out of sight otherwise I would have taken more pics LOL. 2

Barry Willis Posted August 3 Author Report Posted August 3 Wow, awesome shot there Lew. I don't very often see them in straight rows like that. They look like cotton balls.
Gil Levesque Posted August 4 Report Posted August 4 Cool Barry, Fathers day this year, this strange helix Rainbow Cloud was above Welland ,On. Took a couple pics then it dissipated! A lifetime first for me! 3
Barry Willis Posted August 6 Author Report Posted August 6 Hey Gil, very cool, Aside from when I am in the back country my eye's, day and night are always pointed towards the sky. The things I've seen would startle most folks imagination. I've actually seen these several times out west here and similar to any cloud formations they don't last long. It is caused by a moisture build up and the angle of the cloud verses the sun and depending on weather and time of year ice crystals. Here's some pics of the strangest one I've ever seen (the pictures suck as I had to use my phone rather than my Canon digital as I didn't want to miss the shot and the Canon was no where's near) This cloud, if I can call it that, circled the whole sky in a perfect circle about six fingers above the horizon. I should have submitted it to the weather station but never did but now that you have jogged my memory I will. The first shot appears to be the eye if you will. It was really something to see.
