cityfisher Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Hey all, Im thinking of booking a cottage on Lake St. Peter just south of algonquin. Has anyone been there ? What type of fish exist ? how is the fishing ? Any info would be great Thanks
addy79 Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 I've been quite a few times, if you love to fish I would re-consider. The lake is VERY crowded, lots of boats and seadoos wizzing around, the fishing is stagnant at times. Have caught some bass there. There are supposed to be trout in there but apparently nobody has landed one in years. If your making a trek all the way out there, there are better places to hit. Try neaerby town Macarthur Mills, beautiful area, lots of excellent fishing spots too! i bleieve its a little west of maynooth, which is just south of lake st peter
addy79 Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 the lake is a decent size, one arm with a few small bays and narrows and one big open area. i would compare it to, hmmm, little lake in barrie, maybe 30% bigger.
cityfisher Posted June 29, 2007 Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 (edited) thanks ..not exactly what I wanted to show my parents during their first trip up north... hmmm Much appreciatted !! Edited June 29, 2007 by cityfisher
cityfisher Posted June 29, 2007 Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 its really that busy ? i thought it would be pretty quiet since its so far north...
addy79 Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 LOTS of cottages and a provincial park to boot! do the math, for that distance there are a lot of other options. I highly reccomend the mcarthur mills area look it up, i think the lake i fished was called Fraser, great for walleye adn smallies.

Ive booked a cottage in Huntville instead need some peace and quiet not madness on the lake ! lol
nomadfisher Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 pretty much agree with the other posts.. it's quite far north, but many cottages on a small lake... some smallmouth in various areas.... the proverbial stock rainbow trout were nowhere to be seen, even jigging deep during evening hours... .....nomad
