fishsevern Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 (edited) Hey, there was a recent good post on our oddest catches/moments and a few had bowfin on thier bucketlist. This 26" fought hard and was a surprise catch 20 years ago. Lets see those hard fighting bowfin! or dogfish if you prefer. Edited July 2, 2013 by fishsevern
MCTFisher9120 Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 (edited) Fight harder than any other fish. Here is one from last summer pushing 7lbs on the slop frog A summer before then another giant Many small ones too, they are in the shallow water but with thick cover above. They are settled best in the warm water, turns out I frog lot's and find them in the same places bass live. Here is a 10lb 1oz monster bass opening week in the evening on a popper & 10lb Braid, unreal battle. Hate em but there fun to catch Edited July 2, 2013 by MikeTheBassFisher
Locnar Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Mike, those are some big ol' bowfins. Where do you find these toothy critters?
esoxansteel Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 New a guy who used to eat them, and took the livers from them, and extracted the oils from the liver, to treat his roe, and his roe was second to none, fishing sludge water where good roe is a must.
fishsevern Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 I was hoping to see a 10 lber. Huge bowfin, you deserve a pat on the back. Most i've caught dropping whatever into a small hole through the thick green slop. If anyone really wants to try......fish the shallow slop in the summer and I found them the same area as crappie in the spring. Thats GBay though
Broker Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 This one from Gbay... It was supposed to be my PB largie from the slop .. http://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m639/Ratz2/HPIM4061.jpg
