reelinrolly Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 Just wondering if anyone has ever used or tried sardines or herring for pike?? Does it work???
Burtess Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 (edited) Use them all the time on a quick strike rig, the bigger the sardine the better in my experience. I hang them a foot or so off the bottom, head down. Burt Edited February 18, 2013 by Burtess
5richards Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 I'm looking for large frozen Sardines or Herring for my spring trip to Canada --- any idea where I can order them and have them shipped to me?

You could get one of the Canadian sellers to ship to your fishing location/lodger/outfitter etc. or have a US dealer ship to you as it sounds like you're South of the border. Canadian (East Coast) herring seller: http://www.a1seafood.com/html/herring_wholesale_herring_bait.html Canadian (West Coast) herring seller: http://www.bluewaterbait.ca/sports/herring/ US online bait seller: http://www.fishonbait.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=37&Itemid=123
35Wailin Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 I've used them with a quick strike rig as mentioned. I have also let them lay on the bottom. Seems to target larger pike either way. I've only used them ice fishing on a tip up. Not sure how well they would work in open water. Why not just pick some up at the local grcery store like I do? If you ask your outfitter, I'm sure they could make sure they were on hand when you get there.
