minn koda freezing up

i have a minnkoda powerdrive,,the one where the shaft goes through the hole in the gripper,,anyway last year on the niagara on a cold morning i lowered the motor and then pulled it up after the the first drift and there it stayed until the sun warmed it up an hour later,,ice formed inbetween the shaft and the hole it slides though,,,looking for some thoughts on how to prevent this from happening again

I throw on some WD-40. Prevents the water from building up.

Sometimes it's in avoidable tho

Vaseline or anything that will stay on the motor shaft to prevent water from freezing.
