Pickering nuclear plant reports water leak

Ontario Power Generation has notified Canada's federal nuclear regulator about the release of 73,000 litres of demineralized water into Lake Ontario at the Pickering A nuclear generating station.

Nice animated GIF. Always surprises me that these "leaks" even happen at all. Regardless of faulty valves or seals you'd think they would have designed the system account for any of that happening. Being a cynic, I always believe these things are done on purpose to save money.

How about water being used in oil production? Far more naturally occuring radioactive material is released during coal and oil refinery than any properly functioning nuclear plant, as far as I know.

 

...But I suppose that's a whole 'nother can of worms.

We test for radio nuclides in our annual DWISP sampling at the plant.

never registereed anything, people do not realize how clean lake ontario actually is , i have seen the changes in my 20 years of treating water.
