GBW Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Ontario Power Generation has notified Canada's federal nuclear regulator about the release of 73,000 litres of demineralized water into Lake Ontario at the Pickering A nuclear generating station. http://news.ca.msn.com/canada/cbc-article.aspx?cp-documentid=28023268
Twocoda Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Should help clean up the lake a bit...darn fish keep getting caught in the intake filters... its you moral duty to go fishing and spare the fish of this pre-lube job
mercman Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Demineralzed maybe, but what other kinda scarey crap is in the water they are venting.THATS the question we should be asking
adempsey Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Nice animated GIF. Always surprises me that these "leaks" even happen at all. Regardless of faulty valves or seals you'd think they would have designed the system account for any of that happening. Being a cynic, I always believe these things are done on purpose to save money.
fishcrisp Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Thank the media for the scare about " drinking water escaping for the nuke plant"
Joeytier Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Demineralzed maybe, but what other kinda scarey crap is in the water they are venting.THATS the question we should be asking How about water being used in oil production? Far more naturally occuring radioactive material is released during coal and oil refinery than any properly functioning nuclear plant, as far as I know. ...But I suppose that's a whole 'nother can of worms.
bucktail Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 We test for radio nuclides in our annual DWISP sampling at the plant. never registereed anything, people do not realize how clean lake ontario actually is , i have seen the changes in my 20 years of treating water. Darren
Harrison Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Shoot, now the fish will be spread out more this weekend.
