My first boat

Hello All, I just recently purchased my first boat but it is in desperate need of some refinishing. It is an older 16 ft aluminum with a 9.2 viking. The motor runs great. It has been painted twice in the past, but both layers are falling off and it looks terrible. How do I go about preparing the surface for paint, and what kind of paint, primer should I use?

if it's a metal cowling you can use paint stripper to remover the old paint

Use an epoxy primer and a single stage paint.
