splashhopper Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 With the cold snap here in southern Ontario last week, I am wondering how much colder will the water temperature have dropped from the previous week and how will it affect the bite? This newbie to ice fishing wants to know if I should go out first thing in the am tomorrow( no shelter) or wait a few hours and go for the "afternoon bite". Thanks
Terry Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 if the water temp drops it will be ice and the fish would be stiff but really it will not make much difference I di believe that 4 degs is the heaviest water so except shallow water, it's a fairly stable water temp for them
Sinker Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Yep, water temp thru the ice is pretty much the same all season, and throughout the whole water column. The warmer water will actually be 4 degrees C, and on bottom. Barometric pressure, and lunar cycles will still effect fish though. S.

[/quote I noticed the last two weekends that as the day progressed towards afternoon, the fish seemed to move higher? Does this make sense?
