ctdd2006 Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 the rent is cheap and the work is abundant. A drive up and going to chat with all the local contractors building homes in all the new cottage lot developments might be worth your time.
Dara Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) I've tried and tried to get into the union but its like trying to get blood from a stone. they basically told me that when i get my ticket i'd get hired like instantly. i know a few ppl working for them and they said they got apprentice resumes staked to the roof and if you know pinder real well then you can get in. and all i have been doing is trim work and cabients, i try to stick away from the whole framing and concrete work. i seen job posting on the job bank for elliot lake and it just wouldnt be worth it for me. im still at home and i wouldnt make enough to get by in elliot. You gotta be able to do it all. You only get out, what you put in. Doesn't matter what you're into. Pay your dues My dad lived in a tent trailer in terrace bay till November working construction out of town Edited May 15, 2009 by Dara
Guest ThisPlaceSucks Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Here's my 2 cents. I am a fish and wildlife dude. It's not as lucrative as many trades but I like working Monday - Friday, 9-5, with good benefits and a good pension program. It's a very competitive job market but I wouldn't let be the only reason you don't take the program. The people who say there are no jobs in resources fulfill their own prophecy. I followed my heart and not my wallet and I wouldn't change a thing.
