Gerritt Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 In Flanders Fields By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) Canadian Army IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. We would personally like to thank each and every person that has served and/or given their life in the name of freedom and democracy. If it was not for the brave souls that protect us Life would not be the same as we know it. Lest we forget. The Aalbers family.
Jen Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Thank you To all that served and to you Gerritt for remembering on behalf of us all ... Jen
tdotfisherman Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 My grandfather fought in both the Battle of Vimy Ridge, and the Battle of the Somme in the First World War. The suffering and attrition that those boys went through was unbelievable. For every Canadian that contributed to the war, it's something that should be remembered and respected... Thanks for posting.
express168 Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 My Parents are immigrants to this country and are proud to call Canada home. The Canada that the souls fought for, in order to free complete strangers across the world. To those who have died and to those who serve today, Thank You.
