History of Mercury outboards

My father in law had one of those old Mark 75`s from the 50`s and as I remember it ran good when we could get it to start, this engine seemed to have mind of it`s own when it came to starting and if memory serves it had no neutral gear so it was just start and go and another thing I remember is this engine was an incredible gas guzzler at todays gas prices that may have amounted to financial suicide.

I don`t miss that motor at all!
