  2. The Lake Huron Fishing Club & Ontario Steelheader & this year a Grade 11 environmental class fin clipped every Rainbow Trout that comes out of the Kincardine Trout Hatchery & they have been clipped for year maybe always, if you don't think that program is working you don't know anything about the work the LHFC & Ontario Steelheaders are doing. The sorting & counting is done in January & Fin Clipping is done early February usually & I'm so busy with the School Program I'm not getting out fishing or on the fishing Forums as much as I need too lol but will try to keep you informed a little more. We are always looking for new members & every $5.00 puts about 15 Trout into Lake Huron water shed, Pay Pal set up here & all members get the news letter with all events in it. They will be picking through the Rainbow eggs until they hatch picking out the dead ones, moving the Fry to bigger tanks & moving the Browns to the biggest tank over the summer but I don't have dates yet, they just counted all the Browns & spread them into 6 tanks of 10,000 from 2 tanks of 30,000, if your in the area stop by you could get a tour. Thanx & Tight Lines SBK http://64.177.125.54/LHFC/purchase.htm
  3. 7. Today was the big day, 14 Students & 4 Adults from FE Madill High School in Wingham met us at the Kincardine Trout Hatchery to have a tour that started in our office with Matt Luckhart talking about the fish mounts on the wall from Walleye, Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Chinook Salmon, Musky, Bass & Speckle Trout then we moved on to the Invasive Species were I showed everybody Spiny Flea, Alewives, Zebra Mussels, Round Gobies, Lamprey Eel & a few samples of Trout & Salmon from the Egg, Alevin, Smolt to Yearling size all in sample jars. then we moved on to the Brown Trout trays & Rainbow Trout Tanks, after a brief talk it was time to put them to work so Matt started showing everybody what needed to be done from netting the Rainbows to Fin Clipping & putting them into the smaller tanks after they were done, a few students were hesitant at first to just pick up the trout & start but after showing a few of them everybody caught on & they clipped about 4,000 in just over an hour before they had to return to School. Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves & are hoping to get involved with more Hatchery/Club activities in the near future. On behalf of the LHFC I'd like to Thank the Teacher Julie Sawchuk, Students & Volunteer Drivers for their help. Thanx & Tight Lines SBK http://lhfcschoolhatcheries.blogspot.ca/2015/02/fe-madill-enviromental-class-tour.html
  8. Friday was the day we moved a few of our School Salmon back to the Hatchery, some of the school's won't have people to take care of them so we move them back so the Hatchery Volunteers can get them started on food & take care of them until school starts back in January, while I was there took some video of the Rainbows progress & they look good, watch for the difference in size as they swim around, some of the smaller ones could easily be eaten by the bigger ones 9 months old, our Brown Trout eggs should be arriving just before the end of the year & the egg trays are all set up & ready to go. 16. I'm hoping to make a partnership with sister clubs that are interested in helping expand this to their area, the biggest things are getting the MNR on board & getting salmon eggs from other clubs in that area so the fry can be released in other rivers as we are limited to a few in Lake Huron. Thanx & Tight Lines SBK
  17. All the school's have been set up & eggs have been delivered, I was emailed tonight saying 1 of the school's have started to hatch, we have expanded to 21 school's & we are still looking for Members that would like to help out with 1 or more of the school's, they are spread out from Southampton to Goderich & Waterloo to Guelph, I was asked by a few Teachers if they could have a presentation put on this year as not everybody had one last year, so I'll be starting with my presentations early to try to get out to as many as possible. Thanx & Tight Lines Richard http://lhfcschoolhatcheries.blogspot.ca/2014/11/lhfc-school-salmon-hatchery-program-has.html

  21. This might seem weird but we only have 1 set of samples & with our program expanding we need some more samples of Spiny Fleas, Gobies, Alewives, Lamprey, etc. If someone could gather some Alewives & put them in a jar pickled I could use some for my School Hatchery Program, we don't see them around Lake Huron much but they are still here, we try to go to each of the School's & put on a fishing Presentation & are always dropping the Samples oiff so the other Volunteers can have them for their Presentation. It would really be appreciated if someone could grab some. I'll start a separate post for this. Thanx & Tight Lines SBK
