You can see in the last three the eye focus is way better and clarity too

Keep Playing with the camera (get it off auto)I usually use shutter priority or full manual for static birds I use F stop I like and shutter speed of 640 and up BIF shutter speed of 1600 and up my camera doesn't like high ISO so I set it to ISO max 800 on auto ISO think the sandpipers are Lesser Yellowlegs but I'm no expert on shore birds

Looks more like a gremlin looking at the ground nice pics though as for Lightning set it on a tripod set your cam up for 30 second shots then hope and prey on hits when the shutter is open
