I've come along way in 2 years with the camera and I hope to keep the progress up. New D7100 I grabbing wednesday theres nothing wrong with the D5100 I have now except its all menu driven I need buttons and dials for wildlife don't have time to change settings going into the menu to change stuff just press a button move a dial and she all good all the while still looking through the view finder
  16. Conditions sucked had to push the ISO no BIF today couldn't get my SS high enough Blue Jay Hairy Woodpecker Red-Bellied Woodpecker Redtailed Hawk
  17. If your out tomorrow and some ducks are just swimming around close change your setting to Arpature Priority and set it a F8 focus on the eye I never use my camera in AUTO I want to be in control not what the camera thinks I want shutter and arpature priority are semi auto you pick the shutter speed or arpature and the camera picks the other for you Also a biggie here that i forgot about use the buit in light meter should have lines on the bottom of the viewfinder when you look through it make sure its centred or a tiny bit to the + side then your exposure is good
  18. No that thing has more reach than mine with the big lens on it P&S have come along way
  19. Holy crap just read a bit on that camera it goes to 720mm sorry don't know what dynamic range is If you or anyone else is out this way Ajax/Oshawa give me the heads up I'll take you out to a couple of my spots spring is good for Warblers and waterfowl Fall is good for Hawks

  21. if that shinny orb in the sky get's out I'm out tomorrow too have to get that redtailed hawk in focus thank god hes a local and fairly friendly here he is sitting in a tree
  22. Nice what gimbal head did you get?
  23. for that camera I'd put ISO on auto put it in Shutter priority start at 1/1000 and up I like 1/1250 to 1/2000 select the centre focus point it's usually the fastest and the biggest thing is practice Practice practice Notes help too and if possible have them going side ways with the sun behind you You'll get alot that go in the trash bin
  24. And just when you think everything is right good light great full down stroke of the wings far enough away from the back Ground the pic this size it looks good but look at it 1:1 and nothing is in focus
