  1. Few years back, fished in the Connors Bay area with a buddy and did well for bass and walleye..great lake, you will probably do ok in pretty much any area.
  2. Thanks Rod Caster, thats a really cool site. I know what you mean about an atv, my truck is game for some mudding but an atv would be the ultimate. Its on the wishlist...lol.
  3. Thanks Fishburn...my experiences were the pre ZEC period...lol.
  4. Just wondering if anybody has fished in past Temiscaming, was looking at Google maps and seeing the gazillion lakes along that Chemin Maniwaki. Can you get a Quebec fishing licence in Temiscaming to fish back in that area? I noticed that if you followed that road all the way down, it would end up coming out near my old stompin grounds, Swisha (Rolphton). I grew up in Deep River and remember going on fishing trips up in the Quebec side behind the Swisha with my dad, back when it was just a sand type bridge crossing the Ottawa. Recall some really awesome fishing and camping!
  5. Never had much luck fishing for those species, but hey fishing is fishing!
  6. I had a chance to explore in the area past Twenty Minute Lake today, I grabbed a dozen worms and headed out. I didn't get leaving till about noon so wasn't holding my breath on chances of catching much, but hey still good to get out. I have been wanting to explore up in this area for quite a while, since looks like so many lakes to try. The one lake I got to was a tad of a challenge for the old Dodge (well not really but an atv would be more suitable...lol). I was just wondering if anybody from up in this neck of the woods has tried any lakes in this area, and if they would mind shooting me a PM with some advice and/or lakes to try. (what kind of fish, what lure would be good to try etc). I figured worms on a harness would be kind of universal but open to suggestions from others who have gone before.
  7. If somebody else has this unit, maybe they can let me know how good it is and if its worth hanging on to. I find that the screen is almost impossible to see even in low light and since can't see very well, its hard to know if its actually working right or not. It came with the boat I picked up last year, so was willing to try it out since I have it. It may need to be sent to Humminbird for repairs or something, but again, is it worth doing that and however much that may end up costing? I brought the unit inside and plugged it into a power pack to run it on demo mode and its coming on but not doing too much in the way of demo. Only other sonar I have now is a Piranha max 20 that I clamp onto my sportspal, I am tempted to just clamp that onto the bigger boat for now and not bother with this unit, better than nothing. Unfortunately, the transducers aren't the same.
  8. I tend to agree, just curious if anyone had tried it out, prolly won't be long before all the bling will be offered by conventional finders ( add on feature where if you wanted that ability to cast a transducer, just push a button to have your dash unit communicate with the gadget etc) Using a tablet on a boat or at shoreline, is recipe for a ruined tablet if you drop it in the water...lol.
  9. Came across this portable fishfinder that runs on a smartphone or tablet, seems kinda neat...has anybody used one?
  10. Just reading this post since will be working in Haliburton for next couple of weeks and was looking for info on any shore fishing to be had..Head Lake and Grass, our motel is overlooking Grass (Lakeview Motel) so was thinking of heading down in evening and fire some casts. Any suggestions on baits to try..or just grab some worms?
  11. Spinnerbaits parallel to weed lines should get you some hits, but don't cut yourself off some great action of live baits like worms and minnows!
  12. Thought I'd add the quick pic of the monster I hauled in from the dock off of Terry Fox Crescent, also several little rockies to round out the evening!
  13. I still have many great memories of fishing with my dad as well. He was 57 by the time I came along so I was extra fortunate that he was already retired by the time I was old enough to really enjoy and remember all the fishing and camping trips we had since he had all the time in the world then to do those things. By the sounds of it, your dad is plenty proud of you and will continue to be proud of you when its your turn to pass on those great memories to your children.
  14. thats what I like about being an OFNer...traveling around like we do working, I can check for any info about places we are gonna be
  15. I grabbed some Gulp 2.5" minnows and 4" crawlers and 1/8 oz jig heads, Walmart didn't have any of the 6" ones I usually like to use. Didn't know of any place to grab some worms, so made do with that. Managed to catch a small catfish on the minnow/jighead and a few rock bass. This was the dock just past the marina, that extends from where Terry Fox Crescent- had to deal with school kids coming out and jumping in the water...guess wasn't anywhere else to swim but beside the guy fishing, ya know... Was a nice way to pass the evening though
  16. Working in town for few days, was too tired last night to head out. BBQ steak and a beer will do that Have my telescopic rod in the work truck so will head over and fire a few casts in this evening. Staying at the Highwayman Inn, totally impressed with this motel btw, clean rooms and awesome complimentary buffet breakfast...highly recommend! EdiT: wow, just noticed how old this thread was
  17. Thanks Lew, I am hoping to get up there for a weekend excursion at some point this season, will drop in and ask them. How was the fishing there, btw?
  18. Travel past Angus Lake along Hwy 11, and was just wondering what access there is, for don't really see any roads off of the highway.
  19. Thanks guys, I will let daughter know she hasn't discovered some alien life form in Trout Lake!
  20. My daughter had the grandkids down at Armstrong Beach on Trout Lake today and she noticed what she thought was a leaf floating in the water in the wake of a passing boat. As it got closer, she seen the legs move and took a picture for she had no idea what kind of bug it was. I had no idea either after looking at the pic. Just wondering if anyone else might have seen a critter like this before.
  21. I have heard a few good stories about BW Marine as well over the years, I should bring my canoe in to them this season and have them look at fixing up proper, the patch I had to put on last year. Sharp rock poked through up front when my buddy stepped in, good thing we had the work van with us and had some scrap pieces of metal (sheetmetal worker/installer for a roofing company) and some bugle tape. Ten minutes and was back on the water. Some the seams on her could use some touch up as well, more for appearance sake though, for have no leaks.
  22. Sweet deal Blair, now to pimp it out
  23. I really don't know how these types of people can live with themselves. Must have had a horrible upbringing maybe and taught no respect. A fishing hut is the same to me and probably most others, as a cabin or a camper's set-up...you just don't touch other peoples stuff in those situations ( well at any time..lol). For me I just picked up this code of ethics from many times outdoors with my father and its totally alien for me to think otherwise.
  24. I think so, that first point on left hand side as you head into lake from the river...Darn motor decided it didn't like trolling down to real slow, so made it tough and wasn't much of a wind either... My partner insisted to be in the shallow water around 8 to 12 feet but I marked activity out where bottom flattened out at 18'. Got the smallie when we moved up along the right hand side shore from there... Then tried that point on the right hand side as well. Then headed across to where that lake house is built on that island, half over the water. Around that area was where we climbed ashore on some rocks and set up the barby. took pic from where we set up...makes a nice desktop
  25. Working out of town, in Kirkland currently, and packed the canoe on the work van this time. Monday night we headed out of town looking for water and my helper spotted a lake along 66, Vigrass Lake, it was nice and quiet so we gave it a shot. Seen lots of schools of minnows and small perch. I snagged a hammer handle pike but that was extent of the action. Tuesday night, at the recommend of my friend, Nipfisher, we went out on Kenogami. I am still on my quest to land a walleye, but alas not that night, but did manage a nice smallie that hammered my worm harness. Made for a nice little shore snack (first of the season...ya I know...sad but true). We came back to the Bay Wed, but its fair sized job in KL so will be back again come Monday. We plan on heading out of Kenogami again and maybe work up the Blanche (the building super where we are working, lives along it and gave us permission to put in)
