  1. You mean "Tim Thomas kicks " He is the only reason they made it that far.
  2. Yeah, it's a 30 minute drive from my place downtown kingston. Well, the marina is 30 minutes, my girlfriend dads trailer is only 15-20. It's considered a big lake? I though it was pretty small, I guess I'm used to looking at Lake O then. I'm excited to fish it cuz the water is clear, I've never seen water like that before. I'll keep you posted on how it was. I know there is allot of fat perch since I've seen them, and some decent bass chilling close to shore. But the was on the opposite side of the marina. Only 3.5 more days till I get to fish it =D
  3. That's a nice looking rod. I've been wanting to get into custom rod makin but dont have the money for it. Post pics of your others.
  4. Ok thanks, I'll get him to get a few of those. I guess no one has fished the lake before with the lack of response. Guess I'll figure it out and report back after.
  5. I've gone kayaking once there a few weeks ago and the water was super clear, like seeing a good 8-15 feet down to the bottom. My friend is coming down to Kingston this weekend to fish and we will be renting a boat from the marina on the lake. Now, I know there are Pike since I've seen them lurking around while kayaking. Has anyone fished this lake before? Any tips for it? I'll be bringing my whole tackle bag that has a pretty good verietty of lures, including spoons, cranks spinners, tubes and other soft plastics. My friends tackle bag isn't that big yet since he just started fishing, so if he was going to buy a few new lures what should he consider getting? Thanks
  6. I agree with this. It's like shocks on a car. The stiffer they are the more you feel every little crack an bump in the road. The softer the shocks the less you feel them. I have a 6'6" MH Abu garcia vendetta and I feel everything. I even wet perch fining with it to test it out since it was my first baitcaster outfit and i wanted to practise with it before pike and bass season opened, and I felt every little nibble. The rod is quite stiff, but then again my Berkley Lightning shock 6'6" M spinning rod also feels every nibble. To me I feel everything the same with all the rods I've tries thus far but I'm new to the sport and haven't tried any of those high end $200+ rods.
  7. Wow, I've never seen a perch that big.
  8. You can't unless your broken down and waiting for a tow and need to fix something or change drivers.
  9. If there isn't a "no parking" sign your aloud to park there unless it's some ones property or the highway. As far as the canoe goes I'm not sure since I dont have one and haven't read up any canoe regs. I would imaging it's fine to enter the water from any land that isn't private or otherwise states you are not aloud.
  10. Thats strange. I've thrown some heavy lures an ended up birds nesting so the lure just whipped right back at me, I've got my 50lb 832 tied to a 20lb Fluorocarbon line with a double uni knot and have never have knot failure and I'm pretty aggressive when I cast. Even getting snagged with just the 832 tied on to a lure the hook bends before the knot or line does. My line has been getting fished 3-4 times a week for 3 months now has only lost the lime color of it but it's still looking yellow now. Maybe you got a bad batch. Or it's the knots your using. Ive been using a polamar and wet my line when I cinch it. Sucks that you lost lures cuz of that.
  11. I've been using 832 lime green for about 3 month and haven't had any color come off on my hands. The color fades but not as fast as the other lines. I'll double check the gaps of the line on my reel with the one on the spool. I'll keep using it.
  12. I'm pretty sure I've seen St.Croix at the Ottawa store last time I went there around christmas time.
  13. Nice, looks like a Beatle. Looks like it would be an awesome lure.
  14. Canucks already won, they are just continuing for tradition.
  15. You're right. I should have looked at wikipidia. Guess that also proves my other comment in another thread about how much the Internet isn't reliable for facts
  16. As I said right above your post, i have no intent on targeting large musky. My set up can handle a 5-10lb musky. I'm a bass and walleye kin of guy. Ill be going into the pike field more now since they are fun. I may eventually change my mind, but as a shore fisherman my options are limited at the moment.
  17. Very true. I have no intentions of buying musky gear so I'll target smaller ones.
  18. I kinda agree with that. I have 50lb sufix 832 on my baitcaster with a 20lb Fluoro leader and just horse everything in(including perch lol). I like the fight with big fish but it's the same fight wether you horse it or let it drag. At least that's how I felt it was on my first musky. Caught it twice, first time I let it drag on and it unhooked. Second time was quick and actually felt like a better fight and it swam away like a champ.
  19. I would just stick with tried and tested but that's me. I got my neon lime sufix 832 off eBay 300yard spool for cheap. I find with out seeing it and touching it, it's hard to decide. Lots of stuff is made in china and they relabel it as a new product to make more money. For all we know that can be some power pro relabeled.
  20. Yeah makes sense. When I caught my first musky ever last Thursday it was an awesome fight(I actually though it was a pike, got an iPhone app now to ID fish I don't know). It was 24" but my 6'6" Abu Garcia vendetta medium/heavy and shimano Caenan got it. It swam away just fine but kept fighting the whole way to shore. I'll keep your info in mind if ever I catch another one. What would you say the max amount of time should be to try and get it in?
  21. Ok so it's mostly about fatigue and them "drowning" then it is breaking their bones or something of that nature?
  22. So I've been hearing everyone say that muskies are fragile fish and was wondering what makes them fragile? Pike and muskies look similar almost exactly the same body structure, only difference I can see is the colours. I did some research and found out that hey aren't even related in anyway as they have different DNA and they just evolved the same. Now, are pike just as fragile? Because I never hear people say they are. So what makes a musky fragile? Once musky season opens up I'll be targeting them and pike. I just don't want to handle them incorrectly. I know how to hold them for pictures. I see allot of people "spear" throwing pike back into the water which I find ridiculous. Thanks
  23. I'm really surprised that there isn't more chatter in this post, considering it's a good subject. Im too new at fishing so I don't have any input.
